Monica Brown

Monica A. Brown, nee Strzelecki, 57, of Lombard, died Sunday, April 26, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Visitation will be today, April 29, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St. Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 30, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment is private.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, James “Jay”; stepchildren, James M. Brown and Stephanie N. Crabtree; brothers, Michael C. (Lily) and Jerome E. (Anna Gogol); a niece and a nephew; and five godchildren.
Mrs. Brown was a resident of Lombard for 23 years. She served as executive director for the Lombard Chamber of Commerce in 2007 and worked for the chamber for many years. She was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lombard, was on the board of directors for the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the Village of Lombard Community and Promotions Committee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the SEASPAR Aktion Club, 4500 Belmont Ave., Downers Grove, IL 60515, would be appreciated.

Helen Cook

Funeral services for Helen E. Cook, 83, formerly of Park Ridge, will be held today, April 29, at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church in Park Ridge. Interment is at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
Mrs. Cook is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Bill) Schenk; three grandchildren; and was the sister and aunt of many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan; daughter, Deborah (Donald M. III) Stone; and granddaughter, Julie Stone.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Felician Sisters of Chicago would be appreciated.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral  Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

Rosalie Grant

Rosalie A. Grant, nee Cukierski, 69, of Lombard, died Saturday, April 25, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 28, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Grant is survived by her husband of 46 years, Kenneth; children, Debra of Lombard, Laura (Bryon) Polzin and Philip of Lombard; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Casimer and Stella.
Mrs. Grant had been a resident of Lombard since 1977. She had worked as a keypunch operator for 10 years at Pepperidge Farm in Downers Grove, was a member of the secular order of the Discalced Carmelites in Des Plaines, and had done adoration in the Sacred Heart Church Adoration Chapel in Lombard for many years.

Edward Jiskra

Funeral services for Edward P. Jiskra Sr., 74, of Lombard, were held Monday, April 27, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery.
Mr. Jiskra is survived by his wife, Maxine; children, Edward Jr., James, Steven (Katherine) and Eileen (Christopher) Fordonski; five grandchildren; siblings, Donald (Gloria) and Marjorie (the late William) Adams; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard (the late Verna).
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the lung association, tuberculosis association or American Heart Association would be appreciated.

Mildred Leanes

Mildred Leanes, nee Hromada, 93, of West Chicago, formerly of Lombard for 40 years, died Friday, April 24, at Wood Glen Pavilion in West Chicago.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Memory Gardens in Arlington Heights.
Mrs. Leanes is survived by her children, Paul (Mariane) and Judith (Doug Bergquist) Nielsen; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Marcelle Hromada. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Paul; and siblings, Michael (the late Michele) Hromada, Joseph Hromada and Marie Forney.
Memorials to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674, would be appreciated.

Lawrence Palermo

Lawrence P. Palermo, 87, of Villa Park died Monday, April 27, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be today, April 29, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 30, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at St. John the Apostle Church in Villa Park. Interment is at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Palermo is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Lucas (the late Sharon) and Mario (Diane); two grandchildren; stepchildren, Nick and Louis Trongale; brothers, Russell DiPalermo, Joseph and Norman Palermo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his stepchildren, Maria and Nicolette (Tom) Sulita.

Betty Slocum

Funeral services for Betty C. Slocum, 89, of Lombard, were held Saturday, April 24, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Oakridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Slocum is survived by her husband, Willard W. “Bill”; children, Gregory (Andrea) and Randall (Kathy); sisters, Doris Halverson and Opal McIntosch; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, George Christofferson and Esther Lienhard.

Beatrice Strippy

Beatrice R. “Bea” Strippy, nee Raikes, 91, of Lombard, died Wednesday, April 22, at Fairview Baptist Home in Downers Grove.
Funeral services will be held today, April 29, at First United Methodist Church in Lombard. Interment is at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood.
Mrs. Strippy is survived by her daughter, Deborah McNeil of Lombard; son-in-law, James Pedone; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Elouise) Raikes and Charles Raikes; sister-in-law, Patty Raikes; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W., Chaplain; daughter, Marcia Pedone; and siblings, Genevieve (the late John) Sutton, Robert (the late Bernie) Raikes and Gerald.
Mrs. Strippy was a resident of Lombard for 50 years.
