Patricia Brown

Patricia Brown, nee Michelic, 63, of Villa Park, died Monday, Aug. 17, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 21, with prayers from Brust Villa Park Funeral Home, 305 S. Princeton, Villa Park, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was private.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her children, Maureen Burke, Margie Smith of Lombard, Mary Kay Burke, Eileen (Anthony) Sutton, Courtney Brown and Michael (Janice) Burke; 13 grandchildren; mother, Phyllis Michelic of Villa Park; brothers, Thomas (Sherry), Phillip, Dale and George; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; and father, George.
Mrs. Brown was a resident of Villa Park for 31 years—since 1978. She was the owner of Patti’s Playhouse Day Care in Villa Park for over 20 years, and was a member of St. Pius X Church in Lombard. She was involved in the Villa Park Rotary.

Anthony Demkovich


Anthony “Tonna” Demkovich, 84, of Lombard for 55 years, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, in Lombard.
Mr. Demkovich is survived by his daughter, Toni Rae Demkovich; and grandchildren, Tina Rae Gora and Bruno Gora III. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rafalina Maretta Demkovich, whom he married in 1952; and son, Steven Anthony Demkovich.
Mr. Demkovich moved to Lombard in 1954. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and served in England, France, Germany and Czechoslovakia. Prior to serving, in 1941 he played in his college state baseball competition and played against Yogi Berra.
Mr. Demkovich retired at age 62 after working for Bill Stillwell Buick, where he was nicknamed “Sammy Service Writer.” His hobbies included fishing, tai chi, studying world maps, reading National Geographic and keeping up with daily world news to share interesting facts with his daughter and granddaughter.
Mr. Demkovich was known for being a positive thinker, friendly, loving, being a charitable man and having a loving spirit. He was a grandfather not only to his grandchildren, but to several acquaintances.

Betty Fleck


Betty J. Fleck, nee Roth, 85, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Lombard, died Monday, Aug. 17, in Arizona.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 21, at Sonoran Skies Mortuary in Mesa. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mrs. Fleck is survived by her children, Michael (Marilyn) of Villa Park, Robert (Elaine) and Penny Jayne (Steve) Doney; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Walter (Opal) Roth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G.; granddaughter-in-law, Raney Fleck; sister, Teda Whalen; and brother-in-law, Lee Whalen.
Mrs. Fleck was a resident of Arizona since 1996 and was a former member of St. Pius X Church in Lombard.
Local arrangements were made by Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Joseph Hebda


Joseph B. Hebda died Monday, Aug. 17.
A funeral Mass was held Saturday, Aug. 22, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Tallahassee, Fla.
Mr. Hebda is survived by his children, Dr. Paul T., Dr. Candacia Hebda Bolduc (Dr. Raymond), Thomas J. (Carol) and Marc J. (Kathy); three grandchildren; siblings, Emilia and Edwin (Roseanne); three nieces and nephews; and four grand nieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Barbara Hebda; wife, Thelma Knapp Hebda; and siblings, Frances, Walter, Anna, Henry and Phyllis.
Mr. Hebda was a veteran of World War II, having served in the China-Burma-India Theater with the 20th Bomber Command as section chief with the 895th Radar Repair Depot. After the war he and his wife founded Electric Door Incorporated, a manufacturer of electric and hydraulic automatic door and gate openers. He was formally recognized for his leadership in 1988 when he was presented with the Dutcher Distinguished Service Award by the International Fence Industry Association.

Peter Markos


Peter T. Markos, 67, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 24, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Andrew Georganas officiating. Interment was at Arlington Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mr. Markos is survived by his wife, Deborah; children, Haley Markos Sutarik (Dr. Jeffrey) and Theodore; brothers, George (Helen) Markos and Chris (Georgia) Markos; in-laws, Donna Lank, Edward (SaiPin) Budrow and Jeffrey (Brenda) Budrow; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Markos had worked as a chef in a restaurant. He loved his children, soccer and family vacations.
Memorials to Children’s Memorial Hospital, 2300 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago, IL 60614, would be appreciated.

Natalie Steinbach


Natalie C. Steinbach, nee Chmielewski, 86, of Sun City, Ariz., died Friday, Aug. 7, in Sun City.
A memorial Mass was held Friday, Aug. 14, at Saint Clement of Rome in Sun City. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Steinbach is survived by her sons, John and Mark; two grandchildren; sisters, Camille Cichon and Eugenia Szymoniak; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, whom she married in 1946.
Mrs. Steinbach was a resident of Lombard for 42 years. Born in Chicago, she was a graduate of Morton High School. During World War II she worked for Western Electric, and the Steinbachs owned Steinbach Shoes in Lombard for many years. Later, she worked for Karnatz Insurance and then the Nolan Agency. She loved to walk, swim, play golf and listen to music.
Memorials for research to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
