David Arends Jr.

Funeral services for David E. Arends Jr., 66, of Villa Park, were held Monday, Aug. 3, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Arends is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Ericka (Bryan); sister, Carol (Henry) Iannotti; brother-in-law, Ron (the late Loretta) Kocolowski; and three nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gwendolyn and David Sr.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

Joseph Bidro

Joseph Stanley Bidro, 91, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Lombard, died Monday, July 27, in Fort Myers.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 1, with prayers from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard, with the Rev. John Guiney officiating. Interment was at Maryhill Cemetery.
Mr. Bidro is survived by his children, Joseph (Karen), Sandra (Russell) Duttko and James; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita.
Mr. Bidro was the owner of Villa Park Ford for 33 years, was president of the Chicago Automobile Dealers Association and chairman of the Ford Dealers’ Advertising Fund.

Doretta Follrath

Doretta Tod Follrath, nee Baxter, 93, of Lombard, died Monday, July 27, at Lexington Health Care in Lombard.
A memorial visitation and service will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is private.
Mrs. Follrath is survived by her daughters, JoAnn (Larry) Davis and Jackie (Frank) Louis; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Frederick W. Clare and Robert Follrath; and brother, William Baxter.
Mrs. Follrath grew up in Homewood and was a resident of Lombard for nine years and formerly of Evanston and Monticello, Ind. She had been a realtor and businesswoman, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Monticello.

Samuel Langer

Samuel “Sam” Langer, 76, died Thursday, July 2, in Del Ray Beach, Fla.
Mr. Langer is survived by his children, Jeffrey, Michael (Sue), Daniel and Pamela (Valdi) Viksne; three grandchildren; siblings, Jerry (Barbara) Langer and Pepi (the late Marvin) Reiner; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean.
Mr. Langer was a longtime resident of Lombard. He served in the U.S. Military and worked as a car salesman for 30-plus years, being named one of the “Top Ten Car Salesmen in the United States” during his tenure.

Kenneth Pawley

A memorial visitation for Kenneth D. Pawley, 83, of Wheaton, formerly of Lombard, was held at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Road, Wheaton. Interment is private at Assumption Cemetery.
Mr. Pawley is survived by his dearest friend, Edith Campbell; children, Donald (Lynn), Kenneth, Robert (Diane), Barbara (Gary) Williams and John; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; and brothers, Robert, John and Donald.
Mr. Pawley was a graduate of Ava High School in Ava., Mo., and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He worked for Truscon Steel and Berger Steel and was a member of WOW, Sing Along Club and the Moose.

Kenneth Perry

Kenneth G. Perry, 83, of Lombard, died Monday, July 27, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 31, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Perry is survived by his children, Anita Benedetti and Jeffrey Alan; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Margaret; son, Robert L.; and two sisters.
Mr. Perry was a resident of Lombard for 60 years—50 of those years at the same address. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II, where he was present in the South Pacific at the “A” bomb test at Bikini Island. He was the former owner of La Grange Motor Parts Co. from 1949-89.

John Welacha

John F. Welacha, 89, of Lombard, died Tuesday, July 28, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 1, with prayers from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Tom Corbino officiating.
Mr. Welacha is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Marilyn (John) Mooney, Alice (Tom) Lewaniak and John A. (Maria); nine grandchildren; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, John Mooney; and siblings, George (the late Helene), Rudy (Mary) and Gladys Horonzy.
Mr. Welacha had worked as a bindery superintendent.

Blanche Westley

Blanche M. Westley, nee Fabry, 91, of Lombard, died Wednesday, July 29, in Lombard.
Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 1, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mrs. Westley is survived by her daughters, Laurel Lindenbach, Coralie (Harry) Smith of Lombard, Bonnie (Thomas) Marcotte and Suzanne (Warren) Creamer; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Smetama and Charles Westley; and brother, Richard Fabry.
Mrs. Westley was a resident of Lombard from 1980-90 and from 2005 to the present. She resided in Hillside for 14 years from 1990 to 2005. She was a bank teller for 20 years at York State Bank in Elmhurst and was a volunteer at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard. She was a former member of the Lombard Senior Chorus and Lombard Senior Art Class.
