Mary Alvarez


Funeral services for Mary Alvarez, nee Fuentes, 81, of Algonquin, formerly of Villa Park, were held Monday, Dec. 14, at St. Alexander Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Alvarez is survived by her children, Maria Linda, Laura, Paul (Maria), Tony (Mel), Robert, Anita Mottys, Renee (Ken) Walther, Rick (Jeanette) and Lisa (Ronald) Wilson; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna (the late Gerard) Montalvo and Georgina (the late Nino) Flores; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julio; and brother, Manolo Fuentes.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

Patricia Ambroiggio

Patricia J. Ambroiggio, nee Supej, 63, of Romeoville, formerly of Lombard, died Friday, Dec. 11, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
Funeral services are being held today, Dec. 16, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. Interment is private at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Ambroiggio is survived by her sons, Joseph (Margaret), Thomas (Elisabeth) and Michael (Anna); six grandchildren; siblings, James Supej, Kathy (Mark) Tannenbaum and Michael (Rosanne) Supej; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory; and grandson, Jeremy.
Mrs. Ambroiggio had worked for AT&T/Lucent for over 20 years. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, family and friends and always said what was on her mind. She loved going to Aruba and Las Vegas.

Eleanor Boehm

Eleanor M. Boehm, 94, of Lombard, died Friday, Dec. 11, at Beacon Hill Health Care in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 14, at Peace Lutheran Church in Lombard.
Ms. Boehm is survived by many cousins.
Ms. Boehm was a resident of Beacon Hill for over 14 years. She had worked for Nalco Chemical for over 40 years.
Arrangements were made by Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

James Clynch

James Clynch, 77, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 11, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Clynch is survived by his wife of 46 years, Annette; children, Beth of Lombard and Dan (Karen); five grandchildren; and many other family members.
Mr. Clynch was a resident of Lombard for 45 years. He was very active at Sacred Heart Church, loved golf, was an avid Notre Dame football fan, was very friendly and was known as “the mayor of the neighborhood.” He enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Montini Catholic High School Scholarship Fund, 19W70 16th St., Lombard, IL 60148, would be appreciated.

Harold Dickens

Harold R. Dickens, 79, of Villa Park, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 12, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Dickens is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise; children, Donald (Barbara), David (Donna) of Lombard, Marianne of Villa Park, Michael, Jack and Thomas (Wassana); five grandchildren; sister-in-law, Grace Dickens; and many nieces, nephews, and brother- and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Kenneth.
Mr. Dickens grew up in Chicago and was a resident of Villa Park for 10 years. He built his own home in Franklin Park and lived there for 41 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War on the USS Norfolk. He was a bricklayer with Local #21 for 50 years and retired in 1991. He was a former member of St. Gertrude’s Holy Name Society in Franklin Park and was a member of St. Alexander Church.

Elizabeth Egan

Elizabeth M. “Liz” Egan, nee Hayes, 79, of Lombard, died Thursday, Dec. 10, in Lombard.
Visitation will be today, Dec. 16, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 17, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Inurnment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Egan is survived by her husband, Charles D.; children, Virginia Allegretti of Lombard, Jeffrey of Lombard, Julie (David) Novak of Lombard and Laura (Henri) Zimmermann; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Egan-Garcia; and son, Gerald; and one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Egan was a former employee of Helen Plum Library in Lombard and was a longtime member of the Theatre of Western Springs. She was an avid gardener and bridge player.

Christal Groeneveld

Christal Groeneveld, nee Charmelo, 62, of Maryville, Tenn., died Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Maryville.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 11, at Memorial Funeral Home in Maryville, with the Rev. J.B. Shelton officiating.
Mrs. Groeneveld is survived by her husband of 35 years, Pieter; mother, Christine Charmelo; brothers, James (Jane) Charmelo of Lombard, Dominic Charmelo and Albert (partner David Tyree) Charmelo; niece, Angelique (Scott) Larrabee; nephews, John and Daniel Charmelo, and James and Joseph Charmelo; and great-nephews and great-niece, Peter, Joel and Lucinda Larrabee. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Charmelo.
Mrs. Groeneveld was formerly of Chicago, Lombard, Villa Park and Wilton Manors, Fla., before moving to Maryville. She was happily employed by Walgreens for over 24 years, previously at Yorktown Mall and on Main Street, both in Lombard.

Dolores Hrabec

Dolores Hrabec, nee Prokopek, 83, of Lombard, died Thursday, Dec. 3, at Lexington Health Care of Lombard.
A memorial Mass was held Friday, Dec. 11, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was private.
Mrs. Hrabec is survived by her husband, Arthur; children, Christine (Stan) Perkowski, Arthur (Hinkley), Janet (James) Shurtleff and David (Shari) Bolingbrook; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and sister, Veronica Casper. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Schroeder.
Mrs. Hrabec had worked in food service at Montini Catholic High School in Lombard.
Arrangements were made by Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard.

D. Glenn Ofsthun

D. Glenn Ofsthun, 85, of Barrington, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Brighton Gardens in Hoffman Estates.
Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 17, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 18, at Presbyterian Church of Barrington. Interment is at White Memorial Cemetery in Barrington.
Mr. Ofsthun is survived by his daughters, Susan (Michael E.) Fosheim, Karen (John Brandon) Brust of Lombard, Elizabeth (Brian J.) Gross and Amy (Ian) Stapleton; and 10 grandchildren, including Kate (fiancé Adam Dickens) of Villa Park, and Maggie and Ted Brust of Lombard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey H., whom he married in 1951; siblings, Dorothy F. Milligan, Stanley O. and Ronald W.; and parents, Freida and Clifford B. Ofsthun.
Mr. Ofsthun was born in Minneapolis, spent his childhood in Duluth, and spent his summers on the family farms in Morton. He graduated valedictorian of Denfield High School in Duluth in 1941 and received a scholarship to Harvard University. During his undergraduate years, he served in the Army Air Force Meteorology program in 1943 and then in the Army Airway Communications System. When World War II ended, he completed his undergraduate degree and continued on scholarship to Harvard Law School, graduating in 1950.
The Ofsthuns lived in Chicago until 1955 and moved to Mount Prospect. In 1960 they moved to the Barrington area to raise their four daughters. He had worked at the law firm Lord, Bissell & Brook from 1950-66, where he specialized in wills, tax and corporate law, and managed complex litigation and bankruptcies.
He then spent the rest of his career at Rooks, Pitts, Fullager and Poust, both as a senior partner and then as the managing partner, where he specialized in corporate and business law, including counsel for several U.S. and international corporations. A highlight of his career was managing a case through the English court system in London, England; he was then perhaps the only U.S. lawyer to have managed a case in front of the House of Lords in London.
Mr. Ofsthun served on the District 220 School Board from 1963-68, as secretary and president. During his tenure, he oversaw the building of the Hough Street Elementary School in Barrington and the Barrington Middle School. He was a longtime volunteer legal counsel for District 220.
After retiring, he enjoyed researching his genealogy and spending winters on Marco Island, Fla. He was a former member of the Union League Club in Chicago and Biltmore Country Club in Barrington, and was a past member of the faculty at John Marshall Law School. He enjoyed golf, fishing and travel.

Melvin Pedersen

Melvin F. Pedersen, 86, of Lombard, died Monday, Dec. 7, at Alden-Valley Ridge Nursing Home in Bloomingdale.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 11, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Pedersen is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Mae; children, Don of Lombard, Donna Krencius and David (Susan); six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brothers, Clarence (Lois) and Robert (Felicia). H
Mr. Pedersen was a member of the Moose #1, and enjoyed reading, puzzles, yard work and bowling.

Jean Silberhorn

Jean Y. Silberhorn, nee Ellis, 89, of Park Falls, Wis., formerly of Lombard, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Lexington Health Center in Lombard.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Silberhorn is survived by her husband of 69 years, Ernest P.W.; children, Judy (Reiny) Schable, Carol (Joe) Holland, Hanc (Marie), Pete (Renee) of Lombard, Phil (Kimberly) and Paul (Gayle); 24 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Joan and Lynn; and siblings, Bill Ellis and Mercy Bartlett.
Mrs. Silberhorn had been a resident of Lombard for many years before retiring to Park Falls in 1985. She was a member of the Glen Ellyn Kingdom Hall-Jehovah’s Witness.

Richard Srch

Visitation for Richard W. Srch, 70, of Villa Park, will be held Friday, Dec. 18, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Srch is survived by his wife, Rae Rupp; children, Laurel Srch, Jeff (Shannon) Srch, Greg (Jodi) Srch, Brian (Julia) Rupp, Alan (Dena) Rupp, Dean and Scott Rupp; four grandchildren; sister, Nancy (Rick) Javier; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Srch was a past Kiwanis Illinois/Eastern Iowa governor, past president and officer of the Villa P ark Kiwanis Club, president of Salt Creek Sanitary District and a professor at DeVry University-Tinley Park Campus.

Patricia Thielen

Patricia Anne Thielen, nee Theisen, of Villa Park, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 12, at St. Alexander Catholic Church in Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mrs. Thielen is survived by her children, Peggy (David) Schreck and Maryellen Thielen (Barry Petrigala); five grandchildren; siblings, Richard (Carol) and Robert (Mary); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E.; and brother, Jerome (Muriel) Theisen.
Mrs. Thielen was a 52-year resident of Villa Park.

Alice Willis

Alice A. Willis, 84, of Villa Park, died at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 20, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 21, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Willis is survived by her son, Tom (Kathy); four grandchildren; and sister, Amanda Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John F.
Mrs. Willis was a 49-year resident of Villa Park. She was an active member of many organizations at St. Alexander Church including the Market Day program, religious education program, parish council, Reverence for Life and the Council of Catholic Women.

Ricardo Zamora

Ricardo S. Zamora, 89, formerly of Lombard, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Florida.
Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 18, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, from the funeral home to Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. Interment is private.
Mr. Zamora is survived by his son, James C. (Laura); three grandchildren; siblings, Daniel, Jesse, Ramon, Ralph and Eduardo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia.
Mr. Zamora was born in Mexico City to Daniel and Felicia Zamora, and immigrated to the United States in 1944. He lived in the Lombard area since 1960 and was a professional photographer. He established Ricardo Studios in the downtown Chicago Loop in the mid-1950s and his brother Jesse joined him as a partner until the end of the 1970s.
Mr. Zamora continued to operate the studio for over 40 years. His clients included former Mayor Daley, Gov. Jim Thompson, Tony Bennett, Carol Channing and many other famous performers and politicians. He retired in the early 1990s to care for his ailing wife.
