James Austin

James Wallace “Jim” Austin of Houston, Texas, died Saturday, Feb. 14, in Houston.
A memorial service was held Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Miller Funeral Chapel in Houston.
Mr. Austin is survived by his wife, Marianne; children, Leslie, Robert and Steven and their family members; and siblings, Steve Austin and Nadya Crecelius and their families.
Mr. Austin was born in Nashville, Tenn., then moved to Fort Thomas, Ky., where he finished high school. He briefly attended Virginia Tech before joining the Army in 1956. He was stationed in Germany where he met and married Marianne.
Mr. Austin returned home in 1959 and finished his studies at the University of Cincinnati, began a 17-year career with Air France and moved to Lombard. He later moved to south Texas in 1976 to run the first of two businesses. His last 10 years have been spent in the Kingswood area of Houston.
Mr. Austin considered himself a “citizen of the world” and was known for his infectious curiosity, penchant for travel and love of irony.

James Branson

James A. Branson, 51, of Villa Park, died Monday, Feb. 16, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services, and interment at Rose Cemetery, were in Kingston, Tenn.
Mr. Branson is survived by his son, James Paul; mother, Mary A.; siblings, John (Mary) Branson, Steve Branson and Penny (Jim) Campbell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James S.; and brother, Eddie.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

Arthur Finke

Arthur Frederick Finke, 92, died Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Finke is survived by his wife, Louise; children, Arthur F. (Nancy), Sharon (the late James) Kruse and Marilyn (Francis) Broccolo; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ella Louise Nordbrock. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Frieda Finke; first wife, Vera Marie; son, John R. (Gay Lynn) Finke; and sister, Hilda Emma Schwarz.
Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1165 S. Westmore-Meyers Road, Lombard, IL 60148, would be appreciated.

Jerry Lullo Sr.

Jerry J. Lullo Sr., 78, of Lombard, died Saturday, Feb. 21, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 24, at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Entombment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Lullo is survived by his wife, Yolanda; children, Jerry Jr. (Sheila), Therese (Alan) Pittman and Carmella (Genario) Esposito; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Anthony, Frances Quagliato and Mary Riccio; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Fairy Mahoney

Fairy W. Mahoney, nee Abbott, 96, of Glen Ellyn, died Friday, Feb. 20, in Glen Ellyn.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 24, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Mahoney is survived by her children, John, Daniel, Edward, Richard (Marilyn), Helen (John) Waters, Patricia (George) Leicht, James, Maryetta (Kim) Knebel, Debra (Richard) Nevell, David (Ann) and Dennis (Debbie) of Lombard; 31 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; children, Robert and Phyllis Marks; and siblings, Irene, John, Bess, Kenny and Russell.
Mrs. Mahoney had retired from Cook County Hospital, where she worked in the housekeeping department.

Mortimer Rubenstein

Funeral services for Mortimer J. Rubenstein, 93, of Villa Park, were held Saturday, Feb. 21, from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Rubenstein is survived by his daughters, Dolores Pflum and Judith Johnson; two grandchildren; and many siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret.
Mr. Rubenstein was a veteran of the Army, having served during World War II, and was a volunteer fireman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Villa Park VFW Post 2801 would be appreciated.

Dominick Schiavone

Dominick J. Schiavone, 58, of Wayne, formerly of Elmhurst, died Sunday, Feb. 22, at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke Medical Center in Chicago.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 26, at Faith World Outreach Church, 1280 S. Route 59, Bartlett.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 27, at Faith World Outreach Church. Interment is at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn.
Mr. Schiavone is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Rachel, Jeffrey, Bethany, Megan and Cathleen; brothers, Thomas and Gordon (Donna); and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Schiavone attended Immaculate Conception Elementary and High School in Elmhurst, and was a 1968 graduate. He was also a graduate of Northern Illinois University. He was the chief financial officer (CFO) of Hassett Storage Warehouses Inc, and Hassett Air Express in Elmhurst. He served as an elder at Faith World Outreach Church, where he was a faithful and active member for 24 years.
Memorials to Faith World Outreach Mission Fund, 1280 S. Route 59, Bartlett, IL 60103, would be appreciated.

Janice Stephen

Funeral services for Janice F. Stephen, 65, nee Malone, of Villa Park, were held Saturday, Feb. 21, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Stephen is survived by her husband, Michael; children, Sharon (Jeffrey) Maas, Erik (Jill) and Christopher (Shelly); six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; mother, Ann Malone; brother, Drew (Pam) Malone; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, John Malone.

Madeline Strickland

Madeline Strickland, nee Klobuchar, 82, of Lombard, died Sunday, Feb. 22, at Brookdale Westbury Care Center in Lisle.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 26, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 27, at the funeral home. Interment is at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mrs. Strickland is survived by her sons, Steve (Kathy) and Jerry (Wendy); daughter-in-law, Tess; five grandchildren; brother, Joe (Jean) Klobuchar; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard M.; son, Raymond; and daughter, Mary Ann Smith.
Mrs. Strickland was a resident of Lombard for 56 years. She was born in Michigan and moved to Chicago in 1950. She was a bingo player at the Villa Park VFW and enjoyed baking. She was a top-notch pie maker.

Arthur Witt

Arthur C. Witt, 91, of Kalamazoo, Mich., formerly of Lombard, died Saturday, Feb. 14.
A memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 20, at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace, with Pastor Robert Braband officiating. Interment was at the cemetery.
Mr. Witt is survived by his daughters, Marjorie (Allan) Ashton, Charlene “Sherry” (Joseph) Smrz of Villa Park and Diane Hammer; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosemary (Joe) Dorsey; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rose Witkowski; and wife of 61 years, Leora C.
Mr. Witt was born in Chicago and was a resident of Lombard for 46 years prior to moving to Michigan in 1998. He worked as an electrical engineer for Continental Electric for 32 years and retired in 1980 after completing the assignment of designing and supervising installation of electrical work in the Sears Tower.
Memorials to the Foundation Fighting Blindness would be appreciated.

Elaine Zur

Elaine Zur, 87, of Beacon Hill, Lombard, died Friday, Feb. 20, at Beacon Hill Nursing Center in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 23, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, with the Rev. Richard Billings, of Unity Church of Oak Park, officiating. Interment was at Montrose Cemetery in Chicago.
Ms. Zur is survived by cousins Marge (Orv) Ward, Helen (Frank) Butler, Julie Best and Cheryl Groundwater; second cousins, Adam and Joshua Best; and dear friends, Mary Serio, John Lafruit and the Rev. Richard Billings. She was preceded in death by her cousin, Avis (Cecil) Freeman.
Ms. Zur had worked in inside sales of springs.
