Catherine Garvey

Catherine Garvey, 89, of Lombard, died Sunday, Jan. 11, in Lombard.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 14, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Garvey is survived by her children, James T. (Ramona), Thomas E. (Kristie Kay), Michael P. (Janice), Therese R. Piper, Edward J. (Susan) and John J.; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Costello. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas James; and two brothers and five sisters.
Mrs. Garvey was a homemaker.

Anita Helfritch

Anita Dora Maria Helfritch, nee Vick, 92, of Elmhurst, died Sunday, Jan. 11, in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were private.
Mrs. Helfritch is survived by her children, Dennis (Iris) and Sue (Ron) Skibbie; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Lilly Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hans.
Mrs. Helfritch was born in Brietlingen, Germany, and had worked as a cook for the Illinois Tollway Cafeteria.
Memorials to the Respiratory Health Association, 1440 W. Washington Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607, would be appreciated.

Agnes Olar

Agnes Olar, of Villa Park, died Friday, Jan. 9, in Carol Stream.
A memorial service will be held at a time and place to be announced at a later date.
Mrs. Olar is survived by her children, Beverly Brando (Ronald Budovec) and Elaine (Mark Summaria); former son-in-law, Charles Gillian; siblings, Jimmy and Cecil Winters, Elsie Kellums, Amy Blanford and Loretta Stagner; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aurel.
Mrs. Olar was a native of Owensboro, Ky, and lived in Avon Park for 20 years, before moving to Illinois. She had worked as a “cracker packer” for Sawyer Biscuit Co., but was mostly known for her many unique crafts.

Elizabeth Philip

Elizabeth H. Philip, nee Trepina, 90, of Oakbrook Terrace, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 9, at Brust Villa Park Funeral Home, 350 S. Princeton, Villa Park. Interment was Saturday, Jan. 10, at Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago.
Mrs. Philip is survived by her husband of 63 years, Andy; sons, Bob (Bonnie) and Ray; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Philip was a hairdresser for many years, and was known for being a wonderful wife and mother and a devout Christian. She was previously involved with Life on Wheels and Women Aglow, and was a counselor with the 700 Club.

Anna Severino

Anna M. Severino, nee Malecek, 74, of Glen Ellyn, died Saturday, Jan. 10, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 14, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mrs. Severino is survived by her children, Dawn (Joe) Alvarez, Faith (Robert) Maestro of Lombard and William III (Cindy); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Joseph (Gloria) and Marion Giroux; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J.; siblings, Barbara (John) Gatsakos and Richard (Marie); and brother-in-law, Robert Giroux.
Mrs. Severino was a resident of Glen Ellyn for 35 years. She worked as a bookkeeper at Madigan’s in Yorktown for 18 years and for the March of Dimes at Eastgate in Lombard. She was active in crafting.

Fannie Shoulders

Fannie A. Shoulders, 77, of Addison, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 10, at Lombard Bible Church, 111 S. Park, Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Shoulders is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Dominick) Schiavone, Elizabeth (Michael) Kugel, Susan (Craig) Paulsen and Janice (David) Brookes; and 16 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L.; and parents, Verlie and Verdie “Dot” Warner.
Mrs. Shoulders was originally from Franklin, W.V.a., and moved to Illinois in 1952. She was known as a devoted mother who was delighted to be a grandmother, loved the Lord dearly and was a faithful and active member of the Lombard Bible Church.

Le Roy Swanson

Le Roy E. Swanson, 90, of Lombard, died Thursday, Jan. 8, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 12, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard.
Mr. Swanson is survived by his daughter, Ronaele “Ronnie” of Lombard; sister-in-law, Ruth Swanson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor; son, Jeffrey; and brother, Arthur.
Mr. Swanson was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He spoke German and was a guard of the German POWs. He had worked as a sales manager with Johnson Water Conditioning in Villa Park for 50 years, and was a charter member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard.

Paul von Neupert

Paul E. von Neupert, 75, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, at Rosewood Care Center in Elgin.
A memorial gathering was held Sunday, Jan. 11, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Mr. von Neupert is survived by his wife, Joann M.; children, Philip W. and Jill M. (Michael) Santelli; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; sister, Wilhelmina “Boots” Peterson; sister-in-law, Violet von Neupert; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl; and brother-in-law, Edward Peterson.
Mr. von Neupert was a resident of Lombard for 50 years.
