Raymond Baxa

Raymond J. Baxa, 80, formerly of Villa Park, died Saturday, Jan. 10, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Jan. 14, at St. Alexander Catholic Church in Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Baxa is survived by his children, Michael, Thomas, Daniel (Linda), Patricia Underwood, Judith Kupka, Janet Gschwend (Davey Cook) and Richard (Alicia); 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie (Don) Zagars.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

William Cherny

William A. “Bill” Cherny, 94, of Beacon Hill, Lombard, died Friday, Jan. 16, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services are private.
Mr. Cherny is survived his sister, Lillian Sedorchuk; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Margaret P. “Midge.”
Mr. Cherny was a resident of Lombard since 1946. He attended Harrison Tech High School in Chicago, and received his B.A. from Northwestern University and his MBA from the University of Chicago. After 28 years he retired from Union Stockyard as vice president of finance.
Mr. Cherny had served as a library board trustee, Village of Lombard trustee and Friend of the library. He was active at Beacon Hill.
In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity would be appreciated.

Dolores Esposito

Dolores Esposito, 60, of Anniston, Ala., died Monday, Jan. 12, in Jackson, Miss.
A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 16, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Anniston, with the Rev. Bryan Love officiating.
Mrs. Esposito is survived by her husband, Frank; mother, Justine Maraviglia; daughters, Tina Mikenas, Gloria of Lombard and Jean; brother, Philip (Marie) Maraviglia; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Caesar Maraviglia.
Mrs. Esposito was a native of Chicago and had been a resident of Anniston for the last five years. She was of the Catholic faith, and was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters.

Thelma Hebda

Thelma K. Hebda, nee Knapp, died Wednesday, Dec. 31.
Mrs. Hebda is survived by her husband, Joseph B., whom she married in 1947; children, Dr. Paul, Thomas (Carol) of Lombard, Marc (Kathryn) and Dr. Candacia Hebda (Dr. Raymond Bolduc); three grandchildren; and sister, Wilhelmina Campion.
Mrs. Hebda was a graduate of Glenbard High School, was a city tennis champion, an avid equestrian and a member of the church choir at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. She and her husband founded Electric Door Inc. manufacturing company, which they operated until their retirement in the 1980s.

Mary Howe

Mary A. Howe, nee Matrisciano, 73, of Lombard, died Saturday, Jan. 17, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Visitation will be today, Jan. 21, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 22, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Thomas Botheroyd officiating. Entombment is at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.
Mrs. Howe is survived by her husband, John E.; children, John R. (Deborah) and Dr. Mary Jene Howe (Vincent Gianinni Jr.); one granddaughter; sisters, Caroline (Ray Cracco) Fanello, Rossetta Wiedmann, Susanna Matrisciano and Loretta Youngren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, John E. Jr.; and brother-in-law, Russell Wiedmann.
Mrs. Howe moved to Lombard in 1972. She had worked as a receptionist at Press On Products on Factory Road in Addison for five years. She had been a CCD teacher at Sacred Heart Church for many years.

Thomas Johnson

Thomas E. Johnson, 80, of Lombard, died Sunday, Jan. 18, in Lombard.
Funeral services were private. Interment was at Elm Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Edna; children, Lynn (Timothy) Breitling and Lee of Lombard; brother, Abraham Brian (Jean); and a nephew and niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Lily.
Mr. Johnson moved to the Lombard area from England in 1955. He retired in 1988 from Kropp Forge in Cicero, where he was a trimmer die sinker.
Arrangements were made by Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Norman Mitchell

Norman L. Mitchell, 70, of Downers Grove, died Saturday, Jan. 17, in Downers Grove.
Visitation will be today, Jan. 21, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard. There are no funeral services.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Debra; children, Michael (Susan), Mark (Myrosia) and Michelle Moorehouse; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Judy (Martin) Nissen; and one nephew.
Mr. Mitchell had worked as a welder.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.

Robert Quinnett

Robert B. Quinnett, 90, of Lombard, died Saturday, Jan. 17, at Beacon Hill Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 21, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Herb Essig officiating. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Quinnett is survived by his wife, Katherine Commare; daughter, MaryJo (Lawrence) Carlson; three grandchildren; brother, Leo F. (Albina) Quinnett; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Bernice Laurie, Patrick (Olga), Larry (Joan), Joseph, Louise, Nick D. (Corrine) Quinnett and Anne Louise (James) Burnett.
Mr. Quinnett was born in Havelock, Neb., and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He had worked as a sheet metal worker and was a member of VFW #2801 and Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #73.

Betty Villalobos


Betty C. Villalobos, nee Canceran, 72, of Lombard, died Monday, Jan. 12, at Loyola Hospital in Maywood.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 19, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.
Mrs. Villalobos is survived by her husband, Mel; children, Bhob, Mardie, Roland, Maru, Rommel and their respective spouses; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Villalobos was born in the Philippines, where she had worked as a high school teacher. Of late, she worked as a realtor for JW Reedy Real Estate Co.
Memorials to a scholarship fund for children of Isabel, Philippines, would be appreciated.
