John Cahill

John P. Cahill, 88, of Beacon Hill in Lombard, died Friday, Jan. 23.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 26, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church, with the Rev. John Guiney officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Cahill is survived by his children, Jack (Jill), Terry (Sandra), Ellen (Len) Bathje, Patrick (Anne), Charmay (Jim) Roberts of Lombard and Jim; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and siblings, Ruth Hyland and Kathleen Cahill. He was preceded in death by his wives, Charlotte, to whom he was married for 43 years, and Pauline, to whom he was married for seven years; and brother-in-law, James Hyland.
Mr. Cahill was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was a member and past commander of the Ted Knusman Amvet Post, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed working with tools and doing carpentry work.

Gail Caldwell

Gail Marie Caldwell, 57, of Glen Ellyn, died Saturday, Jan. 24, in Glen Ellyn.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 30, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, at the funeral home. Interment is at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Ms. Caldwell is survived by her husband, Gerald Gera; children, Nicole Sode, Angela Sode and Brittany Caldwell; three grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters.
Ms. Caldwell had worked for Met Life for 35 years. She loved watching TV, was known as the “life of the party” and for being a loving, caring friend to all who knew her, and for always having a positive attitude.
Memorials to Nurses Recognition Fund, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, 3815 Highland Ave., Downers Grove, IL 60515, would be appreciated.

Judith Fanello

Judith Ann Fanello, 60, of Lombard, formerly of Berwyn, died Sunday, Jan. 18, at Loyola Hospital in Maywood.
Funeral services were private.
Mrs. Fanello is survived by her children, Rory (Jessica) Medrano, Julie (Pete) Farfan and Patrick Fanello; four grandchildren; siblings, Darlene (the late Rudy) Jakupovic and Robert (Christine) Fanello; and three nephews and a niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruno and Shirley Fanello; brothers, Bruno Fanello Jr. and Ron Fanello; and niece, Angela Fanello.
Mrs. Fanello was known for her strength, her will and her selflessness by always putting her family’s needs before her own.

William Friebus

William H Friebus, 62, of Lombard, died Thursday, Jan. 22, at Meadowbrook Manor Nursing.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, with the Rev. Alva F. Hohl officiating. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Friebus is survived by his son, David (Kimberly); two grandsons; siblings, Kathleen (the Rev. Dr. Alva Jr.) Hohl; brother-in-law, Richard (Kathy) Kucik; and four nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane.
Mr. Friebus was a U.S. Navy veteran, and was a member of the Astronomy Club of Naperville.

Nancy Anne Hartmann

Nancy Anne Hartmann, nee Matejzik, 94, found peace January 22, 2009, at her Elmhurst home of 57 years.
She was the loving wife of the late Otto C. Hartmann; dear mother of Bruce (Vicki) Hartmann and the late Joy Van Buren; cherished grandmother of Joel (Lori) Van Buren and Jill (Dave) Holtz; and great-grandmother of five.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service Thursday, January 29th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pedersen-Ryberg Mortuary, 435 N. York Road, Elmhurst. Officiating is the Rev. Joseph Mills III. Interment is private.

Myrtle King

Myrtle “Peggy” King, 84, of Lombard, died Sunday, Jan. 25, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. King is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Sr.; children, Jeannie (Gary) Moore, Diane (William) Kielb, Joseph Jr. (Patricia) and Helen (Thomas Looby) Winter of Lombard; eight grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty (Robert) Marschke; and many friends and neighbors.
Mrs. King was a resident of Lombard since 1952. She had worked as a nurse’s aide at hospitals, liked to fish and loved to go to Churchill Woods to be outside.

Thomas Kirchner

Thomas A. Kirchner, 69, died Saturday, Jan. 17, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, after a battle with cancer.
A private memorial service will be held May 10 in Bonners Ferry.
Mr. Kirchner is survived by his wife, Trudy; children, Conrad, Renae (Mark) Kraetsch, Constance (Chris) Persike and Cynthia; stepdaughter, Debra; siblings, Robert (Viola) Burke, Richard (Diane) Kirchner, Earl (Patricia) Kirchner, Kenneth (Lorraine) Kirchner, Donna (Robert) Becker, Patricia (Alfred) Kubera and Barbara (Robert) Shaw; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Alice Edna Kirchner; son, Oscar; and siblings, Maxwell and William Kirchner, Isabella Peltier, Sally Kirchner and Virgina Oetjens.
Mr. Kirchner was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Coryn Kruizenga

Coryn A. Kruizenga, 84, of Wheaton, died Friday, Jan., 23, at Elmhurst Extended Care.
Funeral services and interment were private.
Mrs. Kruizenga is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Greg) Stuk, Christi, Susan (Mike) Duncan and Karen (Artie) Tessmann; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Robert.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

Mary Nation

Mary Elizabeth Nation, 53, of Mt. Vernon, Ind., died suddenly Sunday, Jan. 18, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 23, at Austin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Interment was at Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Mrs. Nation is survived by her daughter, Kristi (Brandon) Westerfield; two grandchildren and one step-grandchild; former husband, Donald E. Nation; mother, Margery E. Lamonica of Lombard; and siblings, Kathleen L. Krochock, Joseph P. Lamonica Jr., John M. (Cathy) Lamonica, Thomas A. (Claire) Lamonica and James P. (Jean) Lamonica; 11 nieces and nephews; and three great-nephews.
Mrs. Nation grew up in Lombard, attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Benet Academy in Lisle in 1972. She earned an associate degree in nursing in 1974 from Triton College in River Grove.
Mrs. Nation worked as an administrative assistant at the Alexandrian Public Library in Mt. Vernon for over 20 years. She served as a board member for the Posey County chapter of the American Red Cross, volunteer for the Posey County United Way, organized support for the Mt. Vernon Homeless Shelter, served a three-year term as a national representative to the American Library Association’s library support staff board and served as a liaison between the Alexandrian Public Library and many community groups in the town, township and county.
Before her career as a library administrator, Mrs. Nation worked as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst and at Deaconess Hospital. She was a gifted seamstress, taught quilting classes and produce dozens of quilts to support local charities and fundraising projects.

Douglas Olsen

Douglas Thomas Olsen, 69, of Ladson, S.C., died Thursday, Jan. 22, in Ladson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, at Peace Lutheran Church in North Charleston. Burial is private.
Mr. Olsen is survived by his children, Shaw T. (Amy) and Susan D. (Ben) Dellucci; seven grandchildren; four great-grandsons; and siblings, Albert Olsen and Beverly Frappier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Augusta Schacht Olsen; and siblings, Kenneth Olsen, Audrey Gallagher and Myrna Frappier.
Mr. Olsen was born in Elmhurst and attended York High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Ingraham 694. He was formerly married to Lois Johnson, and retired from E.J. McCarthy & Sons.
Mr. Olsen enjoyed going to Azalea Park, going to church, studying his family history and reading. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Charlotte Olson

Charlotte “Jane” Olson, 86, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 23, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was private.
Mrs. Olson is survived by her children, Linda Johnson of Lombard, Paul (Kathy) of Lombard and John (JoAnn); nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Warren “Ole”; and son-in-law, Neil Johnson.
Mrs. Olson had retired after working over 40 years for Illinois Bell. She loved traveling, getting in her car and going places, was very family oriented and loved playing bridge at the senior center.
Memorials to the Lombard Community Center White House (senior center) would be appreciated.

Sylvia Unverzagt

Sylvia H. Unverzagt, 78, formerly of Villa Park, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mrs. Unverzagt is survived by her children, Fred (Karen), Laura (Al) Buss, Bill (Kristen) and Sue (Paul) Williams; and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Unverzagt was a homemaker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.

James Wallin

James Andrew Wallin died Friday, Jan. 23.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 28, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment is at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mr. Wallin is survived by his children, Steven (Ruth), Jeffrey (La Vonda), Denise, Linda and Brian; two grandchildren; and siblings, Robert (Malba) and Patsy (Stephen) Kitterman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Renae J.; and sister, Bobby Jean (David) Hirsch.
Mr. Wallin was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Dennis Woodyatt

Dennis A. Woodyatt, 60, of Villa Park, died Monday, Jan. 26, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 29, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, and on Friday, Jan. 30, at Preston Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, with a graveside service at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Dixon.
Mr. Woodyatt is survived by his mother, Catherine; siblings, Dr. Lyle “Jack” (Marilyn), David, (Joan), Sandy Nilles and Sally (Louie) Strange of Lombard; and nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle J.
Mr. Woodyatt was the manager of Travel with West Suburban for 35 years. He planned and escorted many group trips through Travel with West Suburban.
