Richard Alm

Richard K. “Dick” Alm, 71, of Phillips, Wis., formerly of Maywood and Lombard, died Saturday, June 13, in Phillips.
A memorial service is pending.
Mr. Alm is survived by his wife of 53 years, Prudence “Prue”; children, Jeffrey, Mary (Michael) Eberhardt, Barbara (Stephen) Wolf of Lombard and Gerald (Shari) of Lombard; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Cornelia Alm; brother, Bertrand; and infant son, Michael.
Mr. Alm grew up and went to school in Phillips, graduating from Phillips High School’s Class of 1955. He married in 1956 and moved to Cicero, and was employed at Sunbeam and Automatic Electric before joining the Maywood Police Department in 1968 as a patrolman. In 1970 he was promoted to staff sergeant of investigations and then advanced to lieutenant, a position he held for many years until he retired after 20 years with the force.
Mr. Alm moved to Phillips in 1989, where he enjoyed hunting deer, grouse and horseshoe rabbits, as well as fishing and snowmobiling with his family. He had a particular fondness for trout fishing and playing cards with his friends.

Mary Conner

Funeral services for Mary L. Conner, 78, of Fremont, Neb., formerly of Lombard, will be held at a later date.
Ms. Conner is survived by her sisters, Sharon Bradley, Sally (Jerry) Price and Susan (Gary) Timm; and many nieces and nephews, including Debbie Curtiss of Lombard. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Laura Conner; and sisters, Janice Conner and Barbara Welch.
Memorials to Easter Seals would be appreciated.
Arrangements were made by Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

Helen Duffy

Helen L. Duffy, nee Klein, died Friday, July 3.
A memorial visitation will be held Tuesday, July 22, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, with interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mrs. Duffy is survived by her children, William P. (Renate) Harvey and Leona S.; and sister, Margaret (the late David) Brooks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; and daughter, Bonnie Lou (Lloyd) Butler.

Janet Hartgerink

Funeral services for Janet R. Hartgerink, nee Kitzmiller, 54, of DeKalb, formerly of Villa Park, were held Monday, July 13, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Elm Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Hartgerink is survived by her husband, John R.; father, Fred; sister, Kathy (Terry) Kasperzak; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen.

Elizabeth Kilcoyne

Elizabeth Mary Kilcoyne, nee Ryan, 97, of Lombard, formerly of Chicago, died Sunday, June 14, in Lombard.
A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, July 18, at Christ the King Church in Lombard.
Mrs. Kilcoyne is survived by her daughters, Patricia Hooker of Lombard and Leslie (Dewey) Pierotti; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mary Ryan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis W.; daughter, Margaret M. Baker; grandson, Paul Pierotti; and brothers, James W. Ryan, Earl Ryan and Edward (the late Gladys) Ryan.
Mrs. Kilcoyne had worked for over 30 years for Illinois Bell as a telephone operator and had also worked over 10 years in the china department at Marshall Field’s in downtown Chicago. She was a member of the Illinois Bell Pioneers and was one of the original residents of the Marina Towers in Chicago.

Joanne Linstead

Joanne A. Linstead, nee Czop, 66, of Carol Stream, formerly of Lombard, died Monday, July 13, in Carol Stream.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 16, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 17, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment is at St. Luke Cemetery in Chicago.
Mrs. Linstead is survived by her husband, Marvin A.; sons, Glenn (Beth) and Kurt of Lombard; brother, John (Jessica) Czop; nephew, John; and niece, Vannesa.
Mrs. Linstead was a resident of Carol Stream for five years and was formerly of Lombard for 28 years. She had worked in the office of Henderson’s Department Store and also worked for many years for Allied Dry Wall in Lombard until 2007. She was a member of the Altar Guild and the Mary Martha Guild at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Kenneth Nelsen

Kenneth E. Nelsen, 78, formerly of Addison and McHenry, died Wednesday, July 8.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 14, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mr. Nelsen is survived by his companion, Edna Julien; children, Elaine (Jim) Burdon, Trish (Dennis) Sowa, Ruth (Jim) Allen and Karl (Dr. Maria) Nelsen; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Ron (Lois); brother-in-law, Jon (Linda) Whipple; and sister-in-law, Linda (Gene) Manderino. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara.
Mr. Nelsen had retired after working for Western Electric.

David Shahan

David Lee Shahan, 65, of Oakbrook Terrace, died Monday, July 6, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 10, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Ascension of Our Lord Church, with the Rev. Damien Graziano officiating. Interment was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Mr. Shahan is survived by his wife, Teresa; children, Barbara (Greg) Hartsell, Christopher (Karen), Michael (Karen) and Kelly; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Carolyn, Linda, Richard, Ronald and Roger Shahan; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Shahan served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Henny Sorensen

Henny Neergaard Sorensen, 78, of Villa Park, formerly of Aarhus, Denmark, died Friday, July 3.
Funeral services were private.
Mrs. Sorensen is survived by her children, Jan, Kjeld (Patti), Kate (Joe) Blunk, Lars (Mary), Karin (Talal) Kahwahji and Mike (Krista); 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Paul (Diane) Madsen and Joan (Bob) D’Alexander. She was preceded in death by her husband, Evald; and siblings, Ebba Kruse and John Madsen.
Arrangements were made by Pedersen-Ryberg Mortuary in Elmhurst.

Ursula Szymczak

Ursula Szymczak, nee Morgalla, 86, of Carter Street, died Friday, July 10, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Maine, following a brief illness.
Private funeral services were held under the direction of Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
Mrs. Szymczak is survived by her husband, Gilbert; daughter, Gilda Tunney; siblings, Michael Morgalla and Regina Gicela of Lombard; and nephews, Michael and Raymond Gicela of Lombard. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Anna Morgalla; and companion, Vaclav Kouba.
Mrs. Szymczak was born in Poland, and immigrated to the United States in 1950, settling in Chicago, followed shortly thereafter by her family. Following the death of her companion, she and her daughter enjoyed traveling extensively and lived throughout the United States. She had been a resident of Newburyport for the last six years. Her passions were her family, dogs and food. She was known for her generosity and wisdom.
