Ronald Atkinson
Ronald N. “Ron” Atkinson, 82, of Lombard, formerly a longtime resident of Naperville, died Thursday, July 2, in Lombard, after a 20-year battle with renal cancer.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 7, from Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, to Mass at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Naperville. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mr. Atkinson is survived by his wife, Rose Marie, whom he married in 1947; 102-year-old mother, Virginia Weber; children, Mary (Al) Gerber, Thomas (Kathy), Neil, Joanie (Tim) Krings, Patrick (Beth) and Michael (Cindy); former spouse and mother of his children, Rita Fay Atkinson; stepchildren, Pam (Jim) Bratcher, Andrea Rizzo, Cyndi (Brian) Lewis and Glenn (Maria) Jasin of Lombard; 11 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Patricia Starkey and Everett “Bill” Atkinson. He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Atkinson; stepfather, Charlie Weber; and brother, Ralph “Red” Atkinson.
Mr. Atkinson attended Naper Elementary School but liked to tell everyone that he went to a one-room school that didn’t have heat in the winter, and that he walked to school with no shoes uphill both ways, with a rope to hold up his britches. At noon recess he and his buddies would run to the quarry for a quick dip before returning for afternoon classes.
He attended Naperville High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1945-47, stationed in Hilo, Hawaii. He was one of Naperville’s first police officers, serving on the force from 1954-68, holding Badge #12, and was occasionally partnered with Naperville’s current mayor, George Pradel. He left the force in 1968 and later went to work for Sterling Plumbing Supply in Lisle.
Mr. Atkinson was a longtime member of the Naperville Moose Lodge, and enjoyed many Saturday nights dancing and listening to organ music, among which “Shanty in Old Shanty Town” was his favorite and most requested.

John Dutko
John Dutko, 83, of Villa Park, died Wednesday, July 1.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 6, at Chapel Hill Gardens West, 17W201 Roosevelt Road, Oakbrook Terrace. Entombment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Mausoleum.
Mr. Dutko is survived by his wife, Edna; stepchildren, Ronald (Jackie) Gall and Gerald (Lauren) Gall; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, John Alan Dutko.
Mr. Dutko was a resident of Villa Park since 1962. He was chairman of the Villa Park Senior Citizens Commission for a number of years, a member of Villa Park Lifelong Learning League and an active member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Adeline Baruch
Adeline F. Baruch, 88, of Lombard, died Friday, July 3, at Lexington Healthcare in Lombard.
Services and interment were private.
Ms. Baruch is survived by her brother, Russell (June) Baruch; nieces and nephew, Judy Gueder, Laurie (Joe Milinovich) Baruch and Rick (Ivy) Baruch; and many grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Jesse.
Ms. Baruch was a resident of Lombard for 20 years. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and spent her entire working career of over 40 years as a costume designer for Leo’s Dancewear in Chicago.
Memorials to a charity of choice would be appreciated.

John Keane
John J. “Sean” Keane, 76, of Lombard, died Saturday, July 4, at Hospice of Northeastern Illinois in Woodstock.
Visitation will be held today, July 8, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 9, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Keane is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Brendan (Jeanne) of Lombard and Colleen of Lombard; three grandchildren; siblings, Maura, Margaret (Jack) Hayden, Catherine O’Connor, Ann (James) Bourke, Michael (Patricia) and Thomas (Margaret); sister-in-law, Nora; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara; brothers, Bartley, Padraic, Peter and Martin; brother-in-law, Patrick O’Connor; and sister-in-law, Patricia.
Mr. Keane was a resident of Lombard for 20 years. He was born in Ireland and served in An Guarda Siochana (the Irish police force) before moving to the United States in 1956. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, and served in active duty from September 1957 until March 1958, and served in the Reserve until 1963.
Mr. Keane attended the College of Advance Transportation and Traffic Management in Chicago, and retired in 1997 from Brockway Standard, Chicago, where he worked as a traffic manager for 34 years. He was a member of St. Pius X Church.

John Muszynski
John P. “Jack” Muszynski, formerly of Arlington Heights and Lombard, died Saturday, June 20, in PebbleCreek, Ariz., after a brief illness with pancreatic cancer.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, July 9, at the Salt Creek Golf Club in Wood Dale.
Mr. Muszynski is survived by his wife, Nebbi Braun; children, John III, Kerry (David) Barrie and Justin Braun; two grandchildren; siblings, Nancy (John) Burns and Tom Muszynski; many nieces and nephews; and golf buddies of 35 years, Tom Cassidy and Joe Seaman. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nancy Muszynski; and brother, Jim Muszynski.
Mr. Muszynski was born in Oak Park and lived in Illinois his entire life, until retiring in 2006 to Goodyear, Ariz., to make his home in PebbleCreek Golf Resort. He loved life and living in PebbleCreek; every day was a good day for him, he always had a smile on his face and a joke on the tip of his tongue, enjoyed riding with his bicycle group in the early morning and stopping at AJ’s for coffee, playing golf and going to “Roman’s” for tournament table shuffleboard. He was known for being friendly and outgoing, making friends wherever he went.

Cremation arrangements were made by the Neptune Society.
Sharon Oltean
Funeral services for Sharon M. Oltean, nee Tassio, 61, of Plainfield, formerly of Villa Park, were held Saturday, June 27, from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Mass at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Mrs. Oltean is survived by her husband, Stephan V.; children, Steven C., D.D.S. (Carrie), Vincent M. and Anthony P.; two grandchildren; parents, Charles and Ann Tassio; siblings, Charles (Kyle) Tassio and Karen (Tom) Sum; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Michael (Ann).

Alvin Steinhauer
Alvin P. Steinhauer, 84, of Oak Park, formerly of Lombard, died Friday, July 3, at Meadowbrook Manor in Bolingbrook.
Visitation and funeral services will be today, July 8, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment will be private in Florida.
Mr. Steinhauer is survived by his children, Patricia, Lawrence (Julie) and Kenneth (Mandy) of Lombard; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam.
Mr. Steinhauer resided in Lombard from 1959 to 2002, until moving to Oak Park. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He retired in 1981 from International Harvester, Melrose Park, where he worked as a mechanical engineer. He was a former active member of Community Presbyterian Church, and was involved in the Lombard Boys League and YMCA Indian Guides.
