John Byrnes Sr.

John Pershing Byrnes Sr., 91, of Lawrenceville, Ga., died Tuesday, May 19.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 21.
Mr. Byrnes is survived by his children, Shawn (Bill) Steben and John Jr. (Wissal); and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Dee.
Mr. Byrnes was a longtime resident of Lombard and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel; and had been president of the Lombard Junior Football League.

Carl Carlson Jr.

Carl A. Carlson Jr., 71, of Lombard, died Wednesday, May 27, at Beacon Hill, Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 2, at Evangelical Covenant Church of Villa Park. Interment was private at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Carlson is survived by his siblings, Florence (Clayton) Brownell, Walter, Harold of Lombard, Dorothy Meyers and Carol of Lombard; sister-in-law, Diane; and 16 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl A. Sr. and Elizabeth Carlson; siblings, Irene Cruickshank and John L.; and nephew, Daniel Meyers.
Mr. Carlson was a longtime resident of Lombard, where he grew up and attended Hammerschmidt and Lincoln schools and graduated from Glenbard High School in 1956. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and for over 40 years was the joint owner of the family business in Addison, Carlson Brothers Moving Co. LTD., which centered in the Glen Ellyn and Lombard area. He was an active member of Evangelical Covenant Church of Villa Park.

Susan Carlson

Susan C. Carlson, age 55, of Spring, Texas, passed away on May 29, 2009, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Elmhurst, Ill, Susan (Sue) grew up in the Chicago suburb of Lombard, Ill. She graduated from Glenbard East High School in 1972, and worked in the suburban Chicago area until being married and moving to Barbeau, Mich. Sue then moved to Spring, Texas, in 1999, where she lived until her death.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, David and Emma Chapman of Lombard, Ill. Susan is survived by her brother, David E. Chapman, Jr. and his wife Sherry; and her niece and nephew, Sarah Rebecca and Nathanael David Chapman, all of Round Rock, Texas.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many people who helped Sue during her illness, especially Dr. Ronjay Rakkhit and Dr. Alyssa Reiber of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, all of the wonderful nursing staff of the fourth floor oncology department at the Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, Sue’s hospice nurse, Vallery Lindgren of Excellent Homecare Provider Services, and our own personal angel, Kristy Burt of Spring, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held later this summer in the Chicago area to celebrate Susan’s life.

Jeanne Connelly

Jeanne C. Connelly, nee Kiener, 75, of Oak Brook, formerly of Lombard, died Tuesday, May 26, at Oak Brook Health Center.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 29, at Our Lady’s Chapel in Oak Brook. Interment was private.
Mrs. Connelly is survived by her sons, Michael (Clarice) and Matthew; son-in-law, Stephen Gregorio; four grandchildren; siblings, Andrew (Pam) Kiener and Carol Hunter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and daughter, Cheryl Gregorio.
Mrs. Connelly was a resident of Lombard for 35 years and resided in Mayslake Village, Oak Brook, for the last four years. She had worked as a realtor in Lombard and Glen Ellyn for many years.

Philip Crilly Sr.

Philip J. Crilly Sr., 83, of Villa Park, died Thursday, May 28.
A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, June 7, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Mr. Crilly is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Philip J. Jr. (Christine), Claudia (Frank) Bellucci Joseph (Kim), Mary Katherine and Alice; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Margaret Mary “Dolly” Shields, Fr. James Crilly, CSV, and Sr. Virginia Crilly, BVM; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, James F.; and brother, Richard (Dolores) Crilly.
Mr. Crilly was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II.
Blood donations to Life-Source would be appreciated.

Helen Gallagher

Funeral services for Helen C. Gallagher, nee Culloton, 82, of Wheaton, formerly of Lombard and Chicago, were held Saturday, May 30, with prayers from Gamboney & Son Funeral Home in Oak Park to Mass at St. Michael Church in Wheaton. Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove.
Mrs. Gallagher is survived by her husband, Robert; children, William (Janice), Dennis (Sherry), Patricia, Judy (Thomas) Lutz and Jeanne (David) Shultz; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Colleen (William) Graham. She was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Patrick; and sister, Mary Jane (the late John) Berent.
Mrs. Gallagher was a 28-year secretary supervisor with the DuPage County Sheriff’s Department, Civil Division, and a long-suffering Cubs fan for over 75 years.

Michael Gallagher

Michael W. Gallagher, 51, of Villa Park, died Tuesday, May 26, in Villa Park.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 29, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Gallagher is survived by his children, Mary, Meghan and Kevin; siblings, Jeannette Babush, Patricia Kirchner, Diane Koeritz, Joseph, Timothy, Peggy Taylor and Carol; and many nieces and nephews.

Brian Kemp

Brian P. Kemp, 46, of Villa Park, died Friday, May 29, at Elmhurst Hospital.
A memorial visitation and service will be held Friday, June 19, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment is private.
Mr. Kemp is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Nicole and Patrick; mother, Genevieve Kemp; siblings, Richard (Laura) and Monica (Michael) Komperda; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard.

Doris Pfaff

Doris E. Pfaff, nee Denner, 77, of Wood Dale, died Friday, May 29, at Elmhurst Hospital.
Funeral services will be held today, June 3, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment is at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Pfaff is survived by her children, Kenneth (Catherine), Lorel (Jim) Durlak, Jeffrey (Karen) and Cheryl (Mark) Roth; five grandchildren; siblings, Hubert Denner, Eugene Denner, Luella Forrest and Marion DeLeon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Calvary Lutheran Church in Wood Dale would be appreciated.

June Plachetka

June E. Plachetka, nee Zorn, 90, of Lombard, died Sunday, May 30, at Elmhurst Extended Care Center in Elmhurst.
Funeral services and interment were private.
Mrs. Plachetka is survived by her daughter, Donna J. (Charles) Haut; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Plachetka was a resident of Lombard since 1981.

Donald Sullivan

Funeral services for Donald F. Sullivan, 93, of Lombard, formerly of Villa Park, were held Saturday, May 30, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Mr. Sullivan is survived by his children, Kathie (the late Richard) Leadingham, Donald G., George W. (Debbie) and Julie (Dennis) Nixon; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily A.; siblings, Geraldine Sullivan and David (Mary) Sullivan.

Mary Wieand

A memorial service for Mary Elizabeth Wieand, nee Wertz, 94, of Lombard, will be held Saturday, June 6, at York Center Church of the Brethren in Lombard.
Mrs. Wieand is survived by her husband, David; children, Mary Nafpaktitis, Martha Farahat and Jonathan; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
