Dorothy Brown


Funeral services for Dorothy Lamb Brown were held Friday, Nov. 6, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Villa Park. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her children, Nancy Hemmett, Kenneth (Maryann) Brown and Brenda (David Lane) Shook; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters-in-law, Linda (the late Arthur) Shetler and Mary (Harold) Fite. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Lee; and brother-in-law, Robert (Alberta) Lee.
Mrs. Brown was a 1939 graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and was a sergeant in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. She was a teacher for 25 years in the Chicago Public Schools; was a 60-year member of the American Legion, WAC/WAAF Post 919, Chicago; was a founding member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Villa Park; was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church; and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Manteno Illinois Veterans Home would be appreciated.

Elma LaBianco


Funeral services for Elma LaBianco, nee DeDomenico, 90, of Villa Park, are being held today, Nov. 11, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. LaBianco is survived by her sons, Guy (Rosemary) and Christ (Alice); five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and siblings, Vito DeDomenico, Mary Linares, Edith Pezullo and Angie Ceasario.

Dr. Marvin Mullen


A memorial service for Dr. Marvin Aaron Mullen was held Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Villa Park.
Dr. Mullen is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary; sons, Thomas (Judy) and Terence (Nada); seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Dr. Mullen was born in Modesto, Ill, the youngest of eight children. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II from November 1942 until April 1946, serving aboard the USS Jos. T. Dickman in the invasions of Gala, Sicily and Salerno, Italy; Normandy, France (Utah Beach); and Southern France.
Prior to the war, Dr. Mullen attended college at Illinois State Teachers College in Normal, and following the war, attended National College of Chiropractic, where he graduated in 1951 with a Doctorate degree in Chiropractic. He started his practice in Wichita, Kan., in 1951 and later returned to Illinois in 1954 to open his office in Villa Park, where he practiced for 54 years until his death.
Dr. Mullen was a leader in the Villa Park VFW Post #2801, and was active in the Villa Park Lions Club, as well as at Calvary United Methodist Church.

Veronica Pavlik


Veronica J. Pavlik, nee Krueger, 67, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.
Visitation was held Saturday, Nov. 7, at Brust Villa Park Funeral Home, 305 S. Princeton, Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mrs. Pavlik is survived by her siblings, Laddie (Maria) Krueger, Ann Van and Judith (Thomas) Rehr of Villa Park; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Pavlik loved to knit and loved gardening. She enjoyed and had great love for her nieces and nephews.

Cal Porto


Funeral services for Cal Porto, 76, of Villa Park, were held Monday, Nov. 9, with prayers from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Mass at St. John the Apostle Church. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mr. Porto is survived by his children, Teresa (David) Nelson, Danette (Peter) Vukmir, Gina Aureine, Elisabeth (the late Scott) Harmon and Scott; 13 grandchildren; brother-in-law, Michael (Joan) Cutrano; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pasquale Porto and Pietro and Rosina Arengi; wife, Barbara; and brothers, Frank (Marion) and Daniel (Lorraine) Porto.
Memorials to the Villa Park American Legion Post #652, 39 E. St. Charles Road, Villa Park, IL 60181, would be appreciated.

Joseph Salerno Sr.


Funeral services for Joseph C. Salerno Sr., 67, of Lombard, formerly of Elmhurst, were held Saturday, Nov. 7, with prayers from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was private.
Mr. Salerno is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Joseph C. Jr. (Lisa), Anthony M. Sr. (Brenda) and Michelle A.; eight grandchildren; brothers- and sister-in-law, Robert, Steve Morse, Rose Anne Donzelli and Leonard (the late Dona) Marinelli; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cono and Violet Salerno.
Mr. Salerno was known as “Joe the Painter” for 50 years and “Hot Dog Man” for 17 years with Salerno’s Red Hots, vending hot dogs in many locations for years. His focus was to benefit Villa Park and Lombard youth athletics programs, and he was a lifelong Bears and Cubs fan.

Mary Sucato

Mary Sucato, nee Scola, 84, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Lombard, died Monday, Oct. 26, in Florida.
A memorial gathering and service will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is private.
Mrs. Sucato is survived by her husband, Ronald “John”; daughters, Michelle (Steve) Roth and Donna; brother, Frank (Florence) Scola of Lombard; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews; and friends, family and dogs, Mia and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nora Scola.
Mrs. Sucato was born in Chicago and had worked for A. Stein and Co., which manufactured men’s garters and belts, from 1942-58, before becoming a full-time mom. She moved to Lombard in 1962 and lived in the Magic Circle subdivision for 34 years, moving to Port Charlotte in 1996.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Dec. 6 at San Antonio Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.

Robert Wisotzke

Robert Wisotzke died Sunday, Nov. 8.
Mr. Wisotzke is survived by his wife, Nancy; ex-wife and good friend, Darlene; children, Robert (Sarina), Cindy (Thomas) Fraser and Barbie (John) DeWitt; stepchildren, Bonnie (Dan) Braun, Daniel (Tracy) Wisotzke, Elizabeth (Rick) Crest, Shelby (Mike) Kraus and Quentin (Jennifer) Wisotzke; 29 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wisotzke was born in 1935 and was a retired veteran from Company 1, 85th Infantry, 10th division. He was a member for 30 years of Carpenters Local Union #550 and lived in Lombard for over 25 years, where he raised his family.
Arrangements are being made by Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
