Robert Andersen


Robert W. Andersen, 79, of Lombard, died Thursday, Nov. 12, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
A memorial service was held Monday, Nov. 16, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Robert Braband officiating. Interment was private.
Mr. Andersen is survived by his wife of 49 years, Eloise; children, Janet (Steve) Sherman and Philip (Christine); two grandchildren; siblings, Ruth (Merle) Calhoon, Carl (the late Joan) and Harry (Harriet); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Esther (the late Edwin) Korab.
Mr. Andersen had been a resident of Lexington Square. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and had worked for International Harvester.
Memorials to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 350 E. Madison, Lombard, IL 60148; or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, 2050 Pfingsten Road, Suite 127, Glenview, IL 60026, would be appreciated.

Rose Gunther

Rose C. Gunther, nee Jenkins, 97, of Willowbrook, formerly of Lombard, died Saturday, Nov. 14, at Lexington Healthcare in Lombard.
Funeral services are being held today, Nov. 18, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mrs. Gunther is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Liva of Villa Park; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Emma Lou (Ogle) Love; and brother-in-law, Maurice Warmack. She was preceded in death by her husband, V. Samuel; and sister, Gerry Warmack.
Mrs. Gunther was a resident of Lombard since 1975. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Order of the Eastern Star (OES) Chapter #129, and was a member of Christ Church of Oak Brook.

Lillian Ingle

Funeral services for Lillian Jean Ingle, 87, were held Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Ingle is survived by her husband, Russell L.; son, Bill (Nicola) Jesse; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Tom (Janet) Jesse.
Mrs. Ingle was an M.P. in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Donald C. Kirchner

Donald C. Kirchner, 88, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 14, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was Monday, Nov. 16, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mr. Kirchner is survived by his wife, Colette; brother, Walter; cousins, Gloria Martino, Kathleen Stepanek and Jeffrey Martino; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine Sepic.
Mr. Kirchner was a resident of Lombard for 40 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served in the Philippine Theatre during World War II, and had worked for many years in advertising sales at the Lombardian. He was a rabid Cubs fan, was intense about politics and was a member of the NRA.

Marilyn O’Brien

Funeral services for Marilyn M. O’Brien, nee Chirillo, 71, of Elmhurst, were held Monday, Nov. 16, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Mrs. O’Brien is survived by her children, Patrick (Beth) and Loreen; three grandchildren; siblings, Joann (Richard) Powell, Diana (Thomas) Jakabauskus and Frank Chirillo; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Sonny Chirillo.

Mary Margaret Rowland

Mary Margaret Spates Rowland, 87, of Woodstock, formerly a longtime resident of Naperville and Lombard, died Monday, Nov. 9, at Centegra Memorial Hospital in Woodstock.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 14, at First United Methodist Church of Lombard. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Rushville Cemetery.
Mrs. Rowland is survived by her children, Michael (Ellen) and Maura (Steve) Bridges; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, George E.; parents, Charles and Susanna Spates; and brothers, Charles Spates and Leslie Fey.
Mrs. Rowland was a graduate of Rushville High School and had worked at the Schyler County Superintendent of Schools office. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Lombard and enjoyed the women’s circle events and activities. Her greatest joy was caring for her family, which involved attending many barbershop shows and competitions, sporting events and musical performances; and hosting family and friends.
Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, 8430 Bryn Mawr, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60631, would be appreciated.

Arthur Schmidt

Arthur Bruce Schmidt, 59, died Saturday, Nov. 7. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Schmidt is survived by his mother, Adele Schmidt; children, Blythe Myers, Renee and Max; one grandson; and siblings, Carolyn Sobacki, Susan Theisen, Nancy Carpenter and Fredrick Schmidt.
Mr. Schmidt was born and raised in Lombard. His business and home were in Valparaiso, Ind., since 1995.

Bernadette Wehrle

Funeral services for Bernadette P. Wehrle, nee Hayes, were held Friday, Nov. 13, and Saturday, Nov. 14.
Mrs. Wehrle is survived by her children, Barbara J. (Don) Witte, William (Bev) and Robert E.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold A.; siblings, Genevieve Schook, Edward, Anna Mae and Daniel Hayes.
Donations in memory of Mrs. Wehrle may be made to the American Cancer Society, 17060 Oak Park Ave., Tinley Park, IL 60477.

Ernest Zeiss

Ernest R. Zeiss, 82, died Thursday, Nov. 12.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 22, at Grace Lutheran Church, 5 N. Princeton, Villa Park.
Mr. Zeiss is survived by his wife of 60 years, Esther; children, Michael (Cathy) and Gina (Joe) Cogan; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Alycmae (Jim) Archer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter R. and Mary Ella Zeiss; and siblings, Walter, Frank, Lily Ewald and Courtney Zeiss.
Mr. Zeiss was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II.
