Janice Baran


Janice A. Baran, nee Richter, 72, of Wheaton, formerly of Lombard, died Sunday, Oct. 4, at Wynscape Nursing Home in Wheaton.
A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 9, at Peace Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment was private.
Mrs. Baran is survived by her children, David (Jeannine), Mary Ellen and Julie (Christopher) Reilly; five grandchildren; brother, Donald Richter; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore G.; and sister-in-law, Jean Richter.
Mrs. Baran was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church in Lombard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to CNS Hospice, 690 E. North Ave., Carol Stream, IL 60188, would be appreciated.
Arrangements were made by Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Jelena Basic


Jelena Basic, 91, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 10, at St. Sava Monastery in Libertyville. Interment was at St. Sava Cemetery.
Mrs. Basic is survived by her husband of 72 years, Vukasin; children, Marija (Ronald) Keizer of Lombard, Ksenija and Mihajlo (Carrie); six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Mrs. Basic was a devoted wife whose nickname was “Queenie.” She was full of love and loved life, and particularly enjoyed children and animals. She enjoyed volunteering for elderly groups and was known as an extraordinary woman who was a shining example of what a homemaker is.

Emil Huber


Emil Huber, formerly of Lombard, died Sunday, Oct. 4.
Mr. Huber is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Bill and Laura; and siblings, Clara Finn, Ernest Carlson, Gordan and Wayne.
Mr. Huber was a member of the VFW post and Community  Presbyterian Church.
Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.

Joseph Lukaszek


Joseph Lukaszek, 67, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Lombard, died Monday, Oct. 5.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Itasca. A celebration of his life will be held at Mina’s on the River in Itasca.
Mr. Lukaszek is survived by his wife of 46 years, Diane; children, Mark (Lisa), Ken (Joann) and Laura; four grandchildren; and sister, Gery. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne.
Mr. Lukaszek was a respected business owner of Main Stop in Lombard for nine years before moving to Arizona nine years ago. He was happy to give a free refill and his ear to listen. He loved spending time with his family and his antique cars.

James Percy


James A. “Bud” Percy, 85, of Sandwich, died Friday, Oct. 9, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 12, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk, with the Rev. Dennis Heaney officiating. Graveside services were held at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Percy is survived by his wife, Virginia, whom he married in 1947; children, Richard (Colleen) and Christine (David) Bard of Villa Park; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a niece, nephew and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Edna Percy; daughter, Patricia Ann Green; and sisters, Mildred Percy and Eleanor Rooney.
Mr. Percy was born in Oak Park. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from Commonwealth Edison in 1980 after 33 years of service. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk, and American Legion Post #487 in Cable, Wis.; and enjoyed woodworking, golfing and his family.
Memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk would be appreciated.

Henry Sadowski


Henry L. Sadowski, 81, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 13, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard. Interment was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mr. Sadowski is survived by his wife, Lena F.; children, Henry (Gail) and Roger C. (Jacque); one grandson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley, Frank, Cal and Mickey Kulawiak, and Ted Sadowski.
Mr. Sadowski was a resident of Lombard since 1962. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He had worked as an electrician in IBEW Local #134 and had retired at age 65. He was a member of VFW Post #15014 and the Lombard American Legion Post #391, and volunteered as a teacher to aspiring electricians after he retired.

Osvaldo Sosa


Osvaldo Javier Sosa, 72, of Lombard, died Thursday, Oct. 8, at Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 13, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.
Mr. Sosa is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Frances; siblings, Gilberto, Alfonso and Margarita; and over 28 godchildren.
Mr. Sosa had worked for Schwinn bicycle company for many years. He enjoyed doing many different things; was a member of Masonic Lodge #10908, was a 32nd member of the Medinah Shriners, belonged to the Scottish Rite and was a Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. His hobbies were guns and women.

Joseph Stoneman


Joseph F. Stoneman, 95, of Villa Park, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
A committal service was held Monday, Oct. 12. Interment was at Oak Ridge-Glen Oak Cemetery.
Mr. Stoneman is survived by his cousin, Paul Westerberg of Lombard.
Mr. Stoneman was a veteran of World War II, and had worked as a security guard. He had been a resident of Villa Park for 20 years.
Arrangements were made by Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard.

Anne Tavlas


Anne A. Tavlas, nee Giammarino, 83, of Lombard, died Monday, Oct. 5, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 9, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Tavlas is survived by her husband, George; children, Chris (Karen), George (Karen) and Lori (Len) Chromek; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers.
Mrs. Tavlas was a resident of Lombard since 1953 and was a founding member of St. Pius X Church in Lombard.

Charles Westphal


Charles Henry Westphal, 86, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Villa Park, died Monday, Oct. 5, in Glen Ellyn.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn, with Pastor Welch from Christ Church in Oak Brook officiating. Interment was private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mr. Westphal is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Nancy Nicholas, Scott (Lee), Pamela Nestel and Bruce (Serena); four grandchildren; and siblings, Henry Eleanor Hayley, Eileen Rice and Muriel Esser. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elisabeth Westphal; and brother, Irving.
Mr. Westphal was born in Germany and served during World War II in the U.S. Army from 1943-45, under Gen. George S.  Patton. He received five battle stars for service in Europe and Japan. He had worked as an electrical engineer for EMD Division of General Motors, and was a member of the Wheaton VFW.

Dorothy Wickman


Dorothy L. Wickman, nee Hansen, 91, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 10, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mrs. Wickman is survived by her children, William, Larry (Debra Ann) of Lombard, Ron (Kathy) of Lombard and Dayle (Rex) Miller of Lombard; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Hansen; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R.; sister, Lillian (the late Roy) Christensen; and brother-in-law, George Pedersen.
Mrs. Wickman was a resident of Lombard for 54 years.

Leonard Witkowski


Leonard C. Witkowski, 85, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, at DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 5, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was private.
Mr. Witkowski is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary; children, Linda of Lombard and Larry (Mary); two grandchildren; and sister, Audrey Siefert.
Mr. Witkowski was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He loved sports, especially football and baseball, and the Cubs and Bears.
