Eugene Bocian


Eugene S. Bocian, 83, of Barrington, formerly of Chicago, died Saturday, Sept. 12, at Northwest Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 15, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Bocian is survived by his sister, Anita Kondrat Banks of Lombard; six nieces and nephews; and the family with whom he resided, Alvin and Sophia Delgato and their sons, Nikko and Michael Steven. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie; sister, Irene (the late Carl) Holmgren; niece, Janet Holmgren; and nephew, Rory Holmgren.
Mr. Bocian was a resident of Barrington and was formerly of Arlington Heights. He had worked at Dean Olson Men’s Store on Chicago Avenue in Chicago for over 25 years.

Roman Budzinski


Roman R. Budzinski, 79, of Oakbrook Terrace, formerly of Cicero, died Saturday, Sept. 12, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Visitation will be today, Sept. 16, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 17, from the funeral home to Mass at Ascension of Our Lord Church, with the Rev. Damien Graziano officiating. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Budzinski is survived by his wife of 57 years, Theresa; son, Roman A. (Patsy); two grandchildren; brother, John (Eunice); sister-in-law, Helen (the late Gene) Klimek; brother-in-law, Sylvester Kwit; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene (the late Dolores).
Mr. Budzinski was a resident of Oakbrook Terrace for over 30 years, and had worked as a machinist for a tool and die company. He was known for being a friend and helping neighbor to all.

Salvatore Carvelli


Salvatore R. “Sal” Carvelli, 90, of Villa Park, formerly of Lombard, died Thursday, Sept. 3, at Lexington Healthcare of Lombard.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard. Entombment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Carvelli is survived by his wife, Dee; children, Kenneth (Carol), Robert (Sandy) and Charlene (Frank) Newburn; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Carvelli was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II; was a 1st sergeant and retiree of the Illinois National Guard; and was a lieutenant colonel with the 33rd Military Police Co. He was the recipient of three Bronze battle stars among other honors. He was a former U.S. Marshal and had worked as an auto salesman for Heritage Cadillac, Chicago and Lombard, for 37 years.

Michael Echols


Michael W. Echols, 56, of Lombard, died Sunday, Sept. 13, in Lombard.
Visitation will be today, Sept. 16, at Brust Villa Park Funeral Home, 305 S. Princeton, Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 17, at the funeral home.
Mr. Echols is survived by his wife, Michele R.; children, Steven (Bridget), Ashley (Phillip) Roth and Patrick of Lombard; two grandchildren; father- and mother-in-law, John and Moonene Christensen of Lombard; siblings, Christine, Billy, Sandy and Barach; brother- and sisters-in-law, Cindy (Steven) Pagano, Jeff (Vicki) Christensen and Lara (Michael) Conoscenti; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Echols was a resident of Lombard for 48 years. He had attended Oak School, was a 1971 graduate of Addison Trail High School and had attended College of DuPage. He had worked as a tool and die maker, and was active in Lombard Indian Guides and Princesses and was a soccer coach for the park district.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society, 1801 S. Meyers Road, Suite 100, Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181, would be appreciated.

Dorothy Grosklaus


Dorothy E. Grosklaus, nee Schmidt, 91, of Lombard, died Monday, Sept. 14, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 18, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment is at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery in Northlake.
Mrs. Grosklaus is survived by her children, Ronald (Janice), Pat (Alan) Retherford of Lombard and Barbara (Jim) Flemm of Lombard; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; brother, Walter Schmidt; and sister, Ruth Becton.
Mrs. Grosklaus was a resident of Lombard for 65 years. She had worked in the cafeteria at Lombard Junior High School for 15 years, and was a charter member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Arrangements were made by Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Carolyn Hall


Carolyn M. Hall, 72, of East Dundee, died Saturday, Sept. 5, in East Dundee.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in West Dundee, with the Revs. Steven Woita and Phillip Baerwolf officiating. Interment was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Conroy, Iowa.
Mrs. Hall is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bruce; children, Debra (Bill) Tolsma, Steven (Rita) and Nancy (Wayne) Schwartz; seven grandchildren; brothers, Ray “Bud” (Beverly) Morris and Chuck Morris; and sister-in-law, Shirley (Steve) Cornell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Lyndel Morris; and brother, Homer Morris Jr.
Mrs. Hall was a seven-year resident of the Dundee area, a former resident of Lombard and a 14-year resident of her most favorite place on Earth, Jacksonport in Door County, Wis. She enjoyed bowling, water aerobics, fishing, quilting and needle work; and her beloved Chicago White Sox and Green Bay Packers. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in West Dundee and a member of the church’s SOS group.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran School Athletic Program, c/o Steve Hall, 5 S. Van Buren St., East Dundee, IL 60118, would be appreciated.

Marie Johnson


Marie Johnson, nee Latizzs, 89, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Westchester, died Monday, Sept. 7, in Glen Ellyn.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 10, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Johnson Macken; five grandchildren; sister, Rose Reifschneider; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Johnson was a resident of Westchester for over 40 years. She had worked in Nordstrom’s Designer Clothing Department.

William Kurtzrock


William R. Kurtzrock, 79, of Aurora, died Sunday, Sept. 6, in Aurora.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 10, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St, Lombard. Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove.
Mr. Kurtzrock is survived by his daughters, Diana Marie (Darwin) Skrzynecki of Lombard, Karen Ann Anderson of Lombard and Mary Kathleen; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Marie; son, Matthew William; and grandson, William Harvey Herzog Jr.
Mr. Kurtzrock was a resident of Aurora for nine years and was formerly of Schaumburg from 1996 to 2000, Bartlett from 1992-96, Berkeley from 1964-92, and grew up in Chicago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during World War II and Korea, and was active in the USMC League. He was a member of the VFW Wheaton Post 2164, and was a former member of the Lithographers Union.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, c/o DuPage County Marine Corps League, would be appreciated.

Dorothy Mathieu


Dorothy “Connie” Mathieu, 89, died Thursday, Sept. 10, at St. Francis Convent in Springfield.
Private family ceremonies and interment will be held at a later date at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.
Mrs. Mathieu is survived by her daughters, Sr. Ann Mathieu OSF, Mary Jane (Michael) Monaghan and Susan (Steve) Stedman; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Thissen and Mercede Stedman; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Anna Kleeimer Conroy; husband, Rene G.; and two sisters and two brothers.

Barbara Morrice


Barbara H. Morrice, nee Sturm, 81, died Monday, Sept. 14, in Warrenton, N.C.
Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 19, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, at Calvary Episcopal Church in Lombard. Interment is private.
Mrs. Morrice is survived by her husband, John H.; children, Susan, Jennifer Morrice Elskes (Steve Lukingbeal), Polly Morrice (Steve) Golvach and John Arthur (Michele); and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Sturm; and parents, Erwin and Everelda Sturm.
Mrs. Morrice was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, where she was active in PADS Homeless Ministry. She was a Guardian Ad Litem for children with the CASA program and was a Tiger Girl at Austin High School in 1946. She was a school teacher for 33 years at Green Valley, Hammerschmidt and Peter Hoy schools in Lombard. She earned a B.A. degree from Indiana University and an M.A. from Northern Illinois University.

Rodger Neubert


Rodger C. Neubert, 65, died Thursday, Sept. 10.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Villa Park. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mr. Neubert is survived by his wife, Nancy A.; brother, George; niece, Jenny (Jim) Nicholson; and numerous cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church would be appreciated.

Edwin Wilson


Edwin G. Wilson, aka “Fast Eddie,” 76, of Lombard, died Saturday, Sept. 5, at Hines V.A. Hospital in Hines.
Visitation was held Thursday, Sept. 10, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Rosemary; children, Edwin A., Brian (Kimberly) and Kathleen; daughter-in-law, Denise; three grandchildren; sister; Carol (Henry) Hudson; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel.
Mr. Wilson was from Cleveland but he loved Chicago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was the owner of Eddie’s West End Tavern in Villa Park from 1975-83, and was interviewed by a local newspaper in 1976 about his tavern and hat collection. He was a Cubs fan, very supportive father and very devoted to his family. He was an avid gardener and loved nature.
