Evelyn Broker


Evelyn M. Broker, nee Fisher, 92, of Villa Park, formerly of Elmhurst, died Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Funeral services are private.
Mrs. Broker is survived by her son, Douglas (Christine). She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard F.; and son, Ronald L.
Arrangements were made by Pedersen-Ryberg Mortuary in Elmhurst.

Jean Dalke


Jean Frey Dalke, 86, of St. Charles, died Thursday, Sept. 3, at Pine View Care Center in St. Charles.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Ehorn-Adams Funeral Home, 10011 Main St., Richmond. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood.
Mrs. Dalke is survived by her husband, Clarence, whom she married in 1947; children, Linda and Gary (Donna); and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Vera E. Frey; and brother, Herbert Frey.
Mrs. Dalke was born in Deerfield. During World War II she worked for the 5th Army headquartersw in Chicago, and had worked as a bookeeper at Schweppe & Sons in Lombard, retiring in 1980. She was treasurer of the DuPage County Genealogical Society for 20 years.

Frank Henkel


Frank R. Henkel, 77, of Lombard, died Friday, Aug. 28, at Central DuPage Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 31, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Henkel is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, William R. (Deborah) of Lombard and Cathy R. McShane of Lombard; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Jeanette Vincent Henry; sister-in-law, Maureen Henkel; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack.
Mr. Henkel had been a resident of Lombard since 1956. He was a member of Meatcutters Local #189 and had worked in the industry for 45 years, lastly for Dominicks for over 25 years, and had retired in 1995.
Mr. Henkel was a member of Sacred Heart Church for 54 years, where he was married; for six years had worked as a volunteer at the DuPage Convalescent Home; and played volleyball for over 25 years at Lombard PTA League #44. He was an avid sports fan, loved to travel and loved his grandchildren and the time he spent with them.

Joanne Hosek


Joanne Angeline Marshall Hosek, nee Michno, died Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 5, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mrs. Hosek is survived by her husband, Don; children, Jessica (Wally) Kapustin, Fred (Amanda) Marshall and Nick (Heather) Marshall; daughter-in-law, Kim (Gregg) Koelsch; and siblings, Glorianna Bata, Bob Michno and Bruno Michno. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; and son, Stephen.
Mrs. Hosek lived in Wood Dale for 40 years, at one time serving on the city’s Special Events Committee. She volunteered with the Wood Dale Historical Society, where she was the program manager; sang alto in several church choirs; enjoyed seeing musical and plays; was active in the Adoptive Parents Club and Widows or Widowers; and traveled to many places around the world.
She served as a Girl and Boy Scout leader and CCD teacher, and later in life, received an associate degree from College of DuPage. In addition to doting on her own eight grandchildren, her marriage to Don brought her 16 more grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Wood Dale Historical Society, P.O. Box 13, Wood Dale, IL 60191; or the American Cancer Society, would be appreciated.

Emily Schmidt


Emily B. Schmidt, nee Eberspacher, 94, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Beacon Hill Health Center in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 4, at Peace Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment was at Concordia Cemetery in Forest Park.
Mrs. Schmidt is survived by her children, Dr. William (Judy), Robert P. and Ellen (Don) Benziger; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marilyn Eberspacher; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry H.; daughter-in-law, Nancy; and one brother and two sisters.
Mrs. Schmidt was a resident of Lombard since 1973 and was formerly of Chicago. She retired from Johnson Controls after working as a customer service representative for over 10 years. She was active with the Peace Lutheran Ladies Aid and was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago.

Franklin Wawak


Franklin E. “Bo” Wawak, 93, of Villa Park, died Saturday, Sept. 5, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services are being held today, Sept. 9, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment is at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mr. Wawak is survived by his siblings, Elmher (Grace), Gladys Hart and Elvira “Sis” Vetter; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary.
Mr. Wawak was a longtime resident of  Villa Park. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, and was a member of the Chicagoland chapter of the Buick Club of America.
