Kaneo Funakoshi

Visitation for Kaneo Funakoshi, 88, of Villa Park, will be held Thursday, Dec. 16, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment is private.
Mr. Funakoshi is survived by his children, George (Charlotte) and John; eight grandchildren; and sister, Marion (Jack) Yamashiro. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; and children, Leona (Cary Mike) Durden and Jerry.

Robert Markus

Robert E. “Bob” Markus, 88, of Villa Park, died Saturday, Nov. 27.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. His body was donated to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois for use in medical education. Cremains will be interred at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mr. Markus is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bert; children, Diane Hawes, Judy Hausermann and Carolyn Johnson; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Markus was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and joined the Villa Park VFW Post #2801 in 1954, and became a life member in 1983.

Howard Johnson

Howard R. Johnson, 84, of Lombard, died Sunday, Dec. 12, in Quincy, Ill.
Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 16, and Friday, Dec. 17, with the funeral service to be held Friday at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his children, Richard A. (Kathleen), Phillip D. (Brenda) and Nancy H. (Bill) Waters; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara G.; and nine brothers and sisters.
Mr. Johnson was a longtime resident of Lombard and was born in Virginia, Minn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, and was a longstanding member of the VFW Lilac Post #5815 and the Moose Lodge.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 would be appreciated.

Paul Nystedt

Paul Marlin Nystedt, of Villa Park, formerly of Cherokee, Iowa, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at Oakbrook Healthcare Center.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Villa Park at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30. Burial will be at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mr. Nystedt was the husband of Valborg Oppegard; father of Steven (Chris), Keven (Kathy), Janis (Robert) Stob and Gary (Patti); grandfather of seven; and great-grandfather of two.
Mr. Nystedt was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was a credit manager for Sears Roebuck and Co.
Memorials to Adventist St. Thomas Hospice, 119 E. Ogden Ave., Suite 111, Hinsdale, IL 60521, would be appreciated.

Marjorie Schwarz

Marjorie R. Schwarz, 76, a lifelong resident of Villa Park, died Monday, Dec. 6.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 10, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Elm Lawn Cemetery in  Elmhurst.
Mrs. Schwarz is survived by her daughter, Laura Lee; brothers, Henry (Doris) Schwarz and Robert (Sherry) Schwarz; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Lawrence Schwarz.
Mrs. Schwarz was known as a loyal friend to all who knew her.
Memorials to the family would be appreciated.
