Anna Ackermann


Funeral services for Anna Ackermann, 86, of Villa Park, were held Saturday, Feb. 6, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mrs. Ackermann is survived by her husband, Edmond; children, Virginia Wind, Mary and Edmond Jr. (Wanda); eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph and John Butrymowicz; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert Crabbe

Funeral services for Robert Crabbe, 88, of Lombard for over 50 years, were private.
Mr. Crabbe is survived by his children, Patricia Cronquist of Lombard, David, Donald, Walter and Richard; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie.
Mr.  Crabbe was born in Oak Park, where he attended high school. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II. After the war he attended the Illinois Institute of Technology, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. He retired as the owner of Crabbe Machine Engineering of Lombard.
Arrangements were made by the Cremation Society of Illinois, 1170 Roosevelt Road, Glen Ellyn.

Howard Davis II

Howard W. Davis II, 78, of Lombard, died Monday, Feb. 1, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 6, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Glen Oak Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Carolyn S.; children, Susan and Howard “Howie” (Shannon) III; five grandchildren; sister, Patricia (Gary) Pilcher; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters.
Mr. Davis was a resident of Lombard for 36 years and was formerly of Addison. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean War. He retired from Ram Golf in Melrose Park after over 35 years.

Edward Golly

Edward J. Golly, 95, of Lombard, died Monday, Feb. 1, in Westmont.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 6, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. William Cullen officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Golly is survived by his son, Charles (Donna); three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; and three brothers and six sisters.
Mr. Golly was born in Chicago and had worked as a meat cutter.
Memorials to the Spina Bifida Association of Illinois, 8765 W. Higgins, Suite 403, Chicago, IL 60631, would be appreciated.

Joseph LaBella Jr.

Joseph A. LaBella Jr., 54, of Lombard, died suddenly Wednesday, Feb. 3, of a heart condition.
He will be cremated and his special friend, Judy Luther, will accompany his remains to Florida, where they had planned for their lives together.
Mr. LaBella is survived by his mother, Adeline; sisters, Linda (Kevin) Kelleher and Tina (David) Kalbfliesch; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Sr.

Francis Pepin

Francis Pepin, 88, of Lexington Square, Lombard, died Sunday, Feb. 7.
A memorial Mass celebrating his life will be held at a later date at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Escanaba, Mich.
Mr. Pepin is survived by his sons, John (Karen) and Robert (Susan) of Lombard; five grandchildren; sisters, Rita (the late Edwin) Shannon, Theresa (Harold) Rathfoot and Sister Lorraine Pepin, O.P., Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Mich.; many brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean “John” and Ernestine Edouardina DuBord “Edna” Pepin; wife, Florence; and brothers, Henry, Victor, Raymond, Wilfred, Lester, Ernest, Donald and Leonard.
Mr. Pepin was born in Escanaba. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II; he was shot down, captured and was a POW in Germany for nearly two years. After his service, he attended Ferris State College and worked at Chattfield’s in Escanaba before moving to Buffalo, N.Y.
He was married in Buffalo and worked for over 31 years with DuPont Co.’s Fabric and Finishes Division. He returned to Escanaba after retirement and lived there until 2005. For the last five years he was a resident of Lexington Square in Lombard. He enjoyed fishing, reading and trips to the family cottage on Lake of Bays, Ontario. He was known as a warm, gentle, thoughtful and generous man.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Salvation Army, Girl Scouts of the USA or Friends of Scouting would be appreciated.

Diane Sementa

Diane M. Sementa, 72, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Lexington Health Care in Lombard.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 12, from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Alexander Catholic Church in Villa Park. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.

Mary Sterbis

Mary Sterbis, nee Zabek, 94, of Lombard, formerly of St. Helen’s Parish, Chicago, died Thursday, Feb. 4, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 12, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, from the funeral home to Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment is at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles.
Mrs. Sterbis is survived by her sons, Charles F. (Arlene B.) of Lombard and Gene (JoAnn E.); seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jr.; and six brothers and sister.
Mrs. Sterbis was a resident of Lombard for 10 years. She was very active at St. Helen’s Parish on Augustana Boulevard in Chicago, and was a current member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard. She had owned the Neighborhood Candy Store at 1013 N. Western in the 1940s and 1950s, and had retired at age 70 after working as a cook for the Chicago Public School System.
