Lorraine Bartnik


Lorraine H. Bartnik, nee Dettling, of Elmhurst, died Saturday, Jan. 30, in Elmhurst.
Visitation will be today, Feb. 3, at Brust Villa Park Funeral Home, 305 S. Princeton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, at Downers Grove Friends Meeting House in Downers Grove. Interment is private.
Mrs. Bartnik is survived by her daughters, Carolyn and Paulina; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; and daughter, Marlene Teligadas.
Mrs. Bartnik was a resident of Elmhurst for 40 years. She had worked as a licensed practical nurse at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and Hinsdale Hospital; and had also driven a school bus in Villa Park for many years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Downers Grove Friends Meeting House, 5710 Lomond Ave., Downers Grove, IL 60516, would be appreciated.

Catherine Gordon

Catherine H. Gordon, nee Drzewucka, 88, of Mayslake Village, Oak Brook, formerly of Bridgeport, Chicago, died Saturday, Jan. 30, at Westmore Convalescent Center in Westmont.
Funeral services are being held today, Feb. 3, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.
Mrs. Gordon is survived by her children, Dennis (Joyce) of Lombard and Debra Drinane; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; and brother, Walter Woods.
Mrs. Gordon was a resident of Mayslake Village in Oak Brook for nine years.

Daniel Grevis

Funeral services for Daniel Grevis, 88, of Lombard, were held Saturday, Jan. 30, at Pedersen-Ryberg Mortuary, 435 N. York Road, Elmhurst. Interment with military honors was held at Elm Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Grevis is survived by his children, Carol Edwards, Nancy (Eric) Johnson, David (Janice) and Holly (Thomas) Bierer; three grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne A., whom he met at a dance and with whom he enjoyed ballroom dancing; son, George; and siblings, Beulah, Gus and Paul.
Mr. Grevis was a resident of Lombard for 50 years, and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was an avid Cubs fan; coached Little League baseball in Lombard for many years; enjoyed bowling at the Lombard Lanes; and enjoyed playing cards, especially black jack, poker and pinochle.

William Griesbaum

William G. Griesbaum, 81, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 1, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mr. Griesbaum is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat; children, Linda (James) Ostien, Laurie (Kevin) Wallace of Villa Park, Bill Jr. of Lombard, Lianne (Bob) Jaworski, Lisa (Steve) Davey of Lombard, Mick (Maricor) and John (Pam) of Lombard; and 14 grandchildren.
Mr. Griesbaum was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He enjoyed sports, music and dancing, loved his grandchildren with a passion and was a devoted family man.

Marilyn Grubb

Funeral services and interment for Marilyn A. Grubb, 78, of Bloomingdale are private.
Mrs. Grubb is survived by her children, Timothy (Beth), John (Shyrlene Foster) and Jennifer; and four grandchildren; and was the sister of Jackie Ramsey.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

Richard Kravchuk

Richard Anton “Dick” Kravchuk, of Naperville, formerly of Lombard, died Tuesday, Jan. 26.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 30, at St. Patrick’s residence in Naperville. Interment was at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery in Naperville.
Mr. Kravchuk is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Carrie Kane, Nanette (Joe) Kurzydym, Rick (Susie) and Mark (Mary); eight grandchildren; sister, Louise (Bob) Linstrom; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Rose; and brother, Frank (the late Dorothy) Kravchuk.
Mr. Kravchuk was a 1947 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and served aboard ship in three theaters during World War II. He had a 39-year career with Swift and Co. that began in Omaha and culminated as the director of corporate engineering. He loved engineering, be it mechanical, electrical or refrigeration. On weekends, you could often find him working on his car’s engine or simply changing the oil. He also enjoyed fixing things in his home and those of his children and neighbors as well.
He enjoyed maintaining his vegetable and flower gardens in Lombard, and as an avid golfer, he could be found on many of the local courses with his buddies, the “Suburban Big Four.” He was also an excellent marksman and greatly enjoyed pheasant hunting. His greatest joy was his family and he was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard for 39 years, and SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Naperville since 2006.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Autism One, 1827 Bearclaw Circle, Draper, UT 84020; or the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta, 4355 J. Cobb Parkway #213, Atlanta, GA 30339, would be appreciated.

Dolores Oliver

Visitation for Dolores P. Oliver will be today, Feb. 3, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 4, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment is private.
Mrs. Oliver is survived by her children, Michael (Kim), Patrick (Lisa) and Susan (Louie) Storiale; five grandchildren; siblings, Robert (Helen) Wozniak, Fred (Louise) Jensen, Joseph (Patti) Jensen and Edward (Kris) Jensen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex P.
Mrs. Oliver was the former owner of Petite Powder Box Salon in Villa Park.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Florence Savaiano

Florence G. Savaiano, nee Le Donne, 97, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, in Lombard.
A memorial Mass was held Saturday, Jan. 30, at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was private at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Savaiano is survived by her children, Arlene (Robert) Difino of Lombard and Donald (Pat); daughter-in-law, Maureen; 14 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Scully; son, Nicholas; and four sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Savaiano had been a resident of Lombard for 15 years and had formerly lived in Addison. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Lombard, and was formerly a member of St. Phillip’s Parish in Addison.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Illinois Citizens for Life, 5021 Fairview Ave., Suite B., Downers Grove, Il 60515, would be appreciated.

Marga Soerensen

Marga M. Soerensen, nee Tuerke, 78, of Lombard, died Saturday, Jan. 30, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Darien. Interment is private.
Mrs. Soerensen, known as “Grandma Barney,” is survived by her daughters, Judith of Lombard and Susanne (Lyle) Bluhm; two grandchildren; sister, Ursula (Dierk) Epskamp; sister-in-law, Edith Gomez; brother-in-law, Manfred (Inge) Neumunster; and many other close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry R.
Mrs. Soerensen, a homemaker, was born in Hamburg, Germany, and came to the United States in 1955. She was a supporter of the Lombard Fire Department since they saved her life, was a good cook and gardener, and had a great sense of humor.

Harry Spychala

Harry E. Spychala, 92, of Lombard, died Saturday, Jan. 30, at West Suburban Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bloomingdale.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.
Mr. Spychala is survived by his wife of 67 years, Valeria “Violet”; daughters, Lannette “Laurie” (Kenneth) Casey-Koniewicz of Lombard and Anita (Rick) Carlson; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Spychala was a resident of Lombard for 63 years. He had owned Harry’s Meat Market in Elmhurst, Villa Park and Lombard for about 30 years (the Westmore shop had closed in 1964). He had also worked for CJC Auto Parts.

Gary Wood

Gary L. Wood, 64, of Villa Park, formerly of Lombard, died Monday, Feb. 1, at Hines VA Hospital in Hines.
Visitation will be today, Feb. 3, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 4, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Villa Park.
Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Todd (Lisa), Lee and Joy (Nic) Tosto; stepchildren, Paul Gildersleeve, Daniel (Laura) Gildersleeve, Timothy Gildersleeve of Villa Park and Diana Gildersleeve; eight grandchildren; mother, Jean Nickolas; brother, Dr. Dale (Mertie) Wood; and a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert O.
Mr. Wood was a resident of Villa Park and Lombard for most of his life. He was a 1963 graduate of Willowbrook High School and received his B.A. degree in political science from DePauw of Greencastle, Ind. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam, and was a member of the Villa Park Kiwanis for many years.
Mr. Wood had been a member of the Lombard YMCA Indian Guide and Princess program and had served as nation chief of the Indian Guides. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Villa Park for over 50 years, where he had served as church treasurer and as a Sunday School teacher. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan.
