Pearl Apponi


Pearl B. Apponi, nee Grilli, 82, of Villa Park, died Friday, Jan. 15, at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 18, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Alexander Catholic Church, with the Rev. Tuan officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Apponi is survived by her husband, Carlo; children, Carl (Parveen Hatefi) Ronald (Lynn M.) and Marisa (James) Bofa; four grandchildren; siblings, Averaldo R. (Donna) Grilly and Joseph (Susan) Grilli; brother-in-law, Albert J. (the late Evonne) Apponi; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Grilli.
Mrs. Apponi was an assistant to the principal of Salt Creek School District 48.


Worth Baird


Worth Kirkwood Baird, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 17.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 23, in The Chapel at Otterbein Lebanon Retirement Center in Lebanon, Ohio.
Mr. Baird is survived by his wife, Jean; children, James (Brenda), Janene (Timothy) Kraegel and Kirk (Karen); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Beverly (Bob) Ackerman.
Mr. Baird graduated from Oxford High School in Oxford, Mich., and was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He retired as vice president of sales from LaVezzi Precision (machine parts) in Chicago after 49 years.
Mr. Baird was a former member and elder of Lombard Bible Church, where he sang in the church choir and men’s quartet. He was currently a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. His hobbies included Bible study and being a scout master.
Contributions to Otterbein Benevolence Fund would be appreciated.

Karla Byrd

Karla Dawn Byrd, 54, formerly of Lombard, died Sunday, Jan. 17, at Presbyterian Hospital after a long illness.
A memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 23, in the chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, Charlotte, N.C., with the Rev. Daniel Stephens officiating.
Mrs. Byrd is survived by her husband, Dr. Lemuel, whom she married in 1976; daughters, Deborah Clark and Jennifer; two grandchildren; mother, Catherine Baumbach; and siblings, Rachel, Sandra and Byron Baumbach.
Mrs. Byrd moved from Lombard to Charlotte in 1980. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, doing cross-stitch, reading, taking car trips and spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

Alma Felgenhauer

Alma M. Felgenhauer, nee Matthies, 92, of Lombard, died Monday, Jan. 18, at Beacon Hill Health Ceneter.
Visitation will be today, Jan. 20, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, with Eastern Star services at 7:30 p.m. under the auspices of Lombard OES (Order of the Eastern Star) #918.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 21, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment is at Rosehill Cemetery in Chicagol
Mrs. Felgenhauer is survived by her husband, LeRoy F.; brothers, Willard Matthies and August Matthies; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Matthies and Marion Fonner; 10 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Matthies.
Mrs. Felgenhauer was a resident of Lombard since 1952. She had worked at Sears in Arlington Heights and had worked for Henderson’s Department Store in Lombard for nine years. She was an over-life member of Easter Star #918, and was one of the first members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard.

William Fredrick

William G. Fredrick, 93, of Lombard, died Friday, Jan. 15, in Lombard.
Funeral services and interment will be private.
Mr. Fredrick is survived by his sons, William G. Jr. and Ronald S. (Diana L.); three grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Madelyn) of Villa Park; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice R.; daughter-in-law, Donna L.; and sisters, Laura (Fredrick) Ball and Lillian (Roy) Schaetzlein.
Mr. Fredrick had been a resident of Lombard for 45 years.

David Goings

David Wayne Goings, 45, of Lombard, died Thursday, Jan. 7, in Tillamook, Ore.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Peace Lutheran Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Marty Hufford officiating. Interment is private.
Mr. Goings is survived by his wife, Mariellen; mother, Josephine; children, Michael, Jason and Christina; siblings, Greg (Lisa), Barbara, Beverly (John) and Charles (Kim); brother-in-law, John (Stacie) Warren; six nieces and nephews; girlfriend, Chris Wease; and best friend, Melissa Wilson. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Goings; and in-laws, Peter and Jacqueline Warren.
Mr. Goings was born in Gary Ind., He was the owner of Papersail Expeditions; and was a contractor for Labsource, RR Donnelley, Moore-Handley Inc, IO Datasphere and others. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his children.
In lieu of flowers, checks payable to the Goings Education Fund would be appreciated.

Arnold Krafft Sr.

A memorial visitation and Masonic service under the auspices of Villa Park Lodge #1113 AFAM for Arnold O. Krafft Sr., 79, formerly of Villa Park, will be held Friday, Jan. 22, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Mr. Krafft is survived by his wife, Harriet; children, Gay (Jake) Kernan, Brian (Linda) and Sandy (George) Johnson; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, David Krafft, Jane Lane and Margie Blash; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his son, Arnold O. Jr.; and sister, Dorothy Kasper.
Mr. Krafft was retired after working as a pipe fitter for Local #597.

Therese Markowski

Funeral services for Therese A. Markowski, 73, of Downers Grove, formerly of Villa Park, were held Monday, Jan. 18, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Ms. Markowski is survived by her sister, Rita (the late Raymond) Green and Maryann (Richard) Cilek; eight nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, William Markowski and Eleanor Markowski.
Ms. Markowski retired after working as a licensed practical nurse for 40 years.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

Daniel Mojziszek

Daniel M. Mojziszek, aka Daniel Mose, 52, of Lombard, died Monday, Jan. 11, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 18, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles.
Mr. Mojziszek is survived by his son, Bryan; siblings, John (Debra) and Mary Loheide; and many other family and friends.
Mr. Mojziszek was a lover of music, band director and professional trumpet player his entire life. He was a graduate of East Leyden High School, and received his bachelor’s degree in music from Elmhurst College. He taught band at many public and private schools in and around DuPage County.

Ross Peterson

Ross H. Peterson, 76, of Lombard, died Thursday, Jan. 14, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 18, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mr. Peterson is survived by his wife, Yvonne D.; children, Karen (Rick) Tippett, Cathy and Russell (Debi); six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Sylvester; and granddaughter, Samantha Peterson.
Mr. Peterson was a resident of Lombard for 51 years. He was a member of Teamster’s Union Local #705.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society, 1801 S. Meyers Road, Suite 100, Oakbrook Terrace, Il 60181, would be appreciated.

Rocco Pompilio

Funeral services for Rocco Pompilio, 69, of Franklin Park, were held Tuesday, Jan. 19, with prayers from Cuneo-Columbian Funeral Home, 10300 W. Grand Ave., Franklin Park, to Mass at St. Gertrude Catholic Church. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Pompilio is survived by his wife, Teresa; children, Giovanni and Frank (Donna); and four grandchildren.
Mr. Pompilio formerly worked as a barber in Lombard.

Helga Schwartz

Helga Schwartz, 83, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Manor Care in Hinsdale.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
Ms. Schwartz is survived by her sisters, Ursula Kummerow and Christine Ruck; cousin, Gunther Meyer; and many close friends in Lombard and Elmhurst, including Elly Neufeld.
Ms. Schwartz was a resident of Lombard for 40 years. She had worked at York Furrier for 28 years and was their number-one seamstress. She was a gardener for Hugh Flower Gardens and was very handy around the home.
Arrangements were made by Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Stephen Walton

A memorial visitation for Stephen K. Walton, 71, of Lombard, is being held today, Jan. 20, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Mr. Walton is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Michael (Joyce), Jeff (Christina), Lisa (Michael Johnston and Ashley; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Pamela (Art) Speciale. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy; and brother, Donald (Kathleen) Walton.
