Jessie Hagen


Jessie Lois Hagen, nee Alexander, 85, died Monday, Jan. 18, at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc, Wis., due to complications of surgery.
A memorial services was held Saturday, Jan. 23, at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home in Oconomowoc. Interment will be held this spring at the Veterans National Cemetery in Spooner, Wis.
Mrs. Hagen is survived by her son, Keith (Linda); two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, R.H. and Jessie; husband, Robert, whom she married in 1946; and brothers, Harris, Paul, Jack, George and Charles.
Mrs. Hagen was born in Memphis, Tenn., the fifth of six children. She was a graduate of North Texas State Teachers College, now the University of North Texas, and after moving to the Chicago area, taught school for number of years, including Park Ridge School for Girls in Park Ridge, in the elementary education program in the Elmhurst school district and finally as a substitute teacher in Winter, Wis., after the Hagens retired to northern Wisconsin.
Mrs. Hagen was a seminal volunteer in a summer teaching program for children of migrant farm workers in the outlying rural produce farming areas that surrounded Chicago in the early 1960s. She was active in the Methodist church in both Des Plaines and Lombard. After giving up her teaching career and moving to Draper, Wis., she served on the local town board for four years as its first woman board member, and then as its first woman chairman for another four years. She also served as a board member of the Sawyer County Aging Unit and the State Advisory Board on Aging, as well as being a delegate to the Senior Statesman’s Program in Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.

Sandra Horn

Sandra A. Horn, nee Moderow, 56, of Lombard, died Friday, Jan. 22, at Rush Presbyterian Medical Center.
Funeral services are being held today, Jan. 27, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Horn is survived by her husband, Gary; daughters, Rikki (Nick) Rodriguez and April; sisters, Patricia Moderow, Gail (Robert) Spencer and Debra (Darrell) Stewart; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Horn was a resident of Lombard for 24 years.

William Konopacz Sr.

Funeral services for William F. “Pepper” Konopacz Sr., 89, of Villa Park, are being held today, Jan. 27, with prayers from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Mass at St. John the Apostle Church in Villa Park. Interment is at Maryhill Cemetery.
Mr. Konopacz is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Pamela (Albert) Baldwin, William F. Jr., Lawrence (Julia), Donald (fiancée Cheryl Kirk), Mary (Greg) Slade and Vicki (Paul) Flaskamp; 10 grandchildren; siblings, Anne (the late Stanley) Plens and Mabel (the late Stanley) Luta; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth; and siblings, Virginia (the late Larry) Dudek and Edward (the late Virginia) Konopacz.
Mr. Konopacz was a veteran of World War II, serving in army intelligence.

Donald Milford

Funeral services for Donald R. Milford, 80, of Villa Park, were held Monday, Jan. 25, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Milford is survived by his wife, Vivian; children, Chris (Judy) and Warren (Bonnie); five grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Diane) Milford; sister-in-law and godmother Jacqueline (Bernie) Madden; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Milford was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

Dorothy Mizerk

Dorothy L. Mizerk, nee Jaykowski, 89, of Villa Park, died Friday, Jan. 22, at DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 25, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove.
Mr. Mizerk is survived by his daughters, Arlene (Charles) Fisher and Judith (William) Neumann; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Evelyn (Chester) Jaske, Pearl Stasiak and Joseph Jaykowski; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H.; son, Daniel; and brother, Matthew.
Mrs. Mizerk had been a resident of Villa Park for over 50 years and had worked for Spraying Systems in Carol Stream for 17 years, retiring in 1992. She was a former member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Addison for 50 years and loved to crochet and garden.
