Jeanne Karnatz


Jeanne R. Karnatz, nee Koeppen, 86, a longtime resident of Lombard, died Friday, July 23, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Glen Ellyn.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 27, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Karnatz is survived by her husband of 62 years, Arthur H.; children, Sue. E. (Richard) Roellig, Steven A. (Nancy), Karl G. (Lee Ann) and Allen H. (Lynn); and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Clark.
Mrs. Karnatz was born in Chicago and moved to Lombard in 1948. She worked with her husband from 1955-87 at Karnatz Insurance Agency (now Nolan Insurance) in Lombard. They were the first tenants of the Lombard Temple Building on the northwest corner of Main and Maple streets. She was a member of the Lombard Women’s Club and loved traveling and bridge.
Flowers or memorials to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church General Fund, 215 S. Lincoln, Lombard, IL 60148, would be appreciated.
Arrangements were made by Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Carol Kelly

A memorial service for Carol A. Kelly, nee Marco, 65, of Villa Park, was held Monday, July 26, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Mrs. Kelly is survived by her mother, Esther; brother, Ralph (Donna) Marco; and three nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; and father, Nicholas Marco.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Gloria Manning

Funeral services for Gloria W. Manning, 68, of Villa Park, were held Tuesday, July 27, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private at Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago.
Ms. Manning was the sister and aunt of many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Rose Manning.

Muriel Marsh

Muriel L. Marsh, nee Broberg, 91, of Friendship Village, died Monday, July 19, at Friendship Village Nursing Home in Schaumburg.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 22, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Glen Oak Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Marsh is survived by her children, Sharon L. (Larry R.) Karch, Tracy L. Jr. (Nancy), Patricia L. (Robert P.) Buesing and Joan L. (James E.) Phelps of Lombard; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tracy L.
Mrs. Marsh was a resident of Friendship Village since 1996 and was formerly a 39-year resident of Berkeley. She was a member of Job’s Daughters.

Charles Smith

Charles M. Smith, 84, of Lombard, died Wednesday, July 21, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services and burial are private.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine E.; children, Charles D., Alyce (Marc) Croeger, Jean, Helen (Richard) Webster, Sheila (Jim) Goff, Paul (Kim), John (Linda) and Adam; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Hilda (Roy) Rose.
Mr. Smith moved his family from Chicago to Lombard in 1953. He was an electrician by trade and was employed by St. Pius X Church and School for over 20 years. He then went on to develop his own electrical maintenance business, Comtech, until he retired.
Mr. Smith enjoyed his family and took them on many memorable camping trips. In his retirement he traveled the United States with his wife. He was an active member of St. Pius X Church for many years; and was an inventor of several work-related and other devices, holding one patent.

Florence Spejcher

Florence V. Spejcher, 90, of Lombard, died Sunday, July 18, in Lombard.
A memorial Mass was held Friday, July 23, at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Inurnment was held at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mrs. Spejcher is survived by her children, Kristina Morgan, Bernadine J. (Thomas W.) Nawara, Andrea (Raymond) Nawara, Renee (Steven) Bayes and Gregory (Sonya); siblings, Jesse (Mary Lou) Osetek, Theodore (Delores) Osetek, Edward Osetek and Nancy (John) Osetek Carey; sister-in-law, Suzanne Osetek; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard F.; and son-in-law, James Morgan.
Mrs. Spejcher was born in Chicago to Valentine and Anna Osetek and moved to Lombard in 1952, where she remained a resident until her death. She was a member of St. Pius X Parish for over 50 years, and was known as a good and valued friend and will be remembered well by all who knew her.

William Travnick

William J. Travnick, 72, of Lombard, died Saturday, July 24, in Lombard.
Funeral services are being held today, July 28, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lombard.
Mr. Travnick is survived by his children, Lynn (fiancé John Stout), Carol of Lombard and Michael (Jennifer) of Villa Park; sister, Victoria (Glenn) Rice; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Louise E.
Mr. Travnick was a resident of Lombard since 1972. He loved the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, Ill., enjoyed bowling and was a proud lifetime member of the NRA.

Marjorie Vanderberg

Marjorie W. Vanderberg, 91, of Dillsburg, Pa., and formerly of Glen Ellyn, died Tuesday, July 20, at the Thornwald Home in Carlisle, Pa.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 27, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Forest Home Cemetery in Forest Park.
Mrs. Vanderberg is survived by her children, Bruce A. (Gail), Robert W. (Pat), Susan B. (Jim) Scherbenske and Sharon V. (Jeff) Park; eight grandchildren; and sisters, Ruth Sjaardema and Doris Laning. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Roger L.; and parents, Richard and Minnie Van Erden.
Mrs. Vanderberg was born in Chicago and lived there most of her life, raising her family and serving the Lord in the Reformed Church. She was a homemaker and recently attended Cumberland Valley Brethren in Christ Church in Dillsburg.
