Susan Cretnik


Susan P. Cretnik, 62, died Saturday, Feb. 27, at Joliet Area Community Hospital in Joliet.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 5, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park.
Ms. Cretnik is survived by her mother, Clara; sister, Mary Lou (the late John) Nugent of Lombard; nephews and niece, Patrick, Christopher and Karie (Mike) Laing; and great-nephews and -nieces, Steven, John and Kyle Nugent, and Michael, Abigail and Madeline Laing. She was preceded in death by her father, Tony Cretnik.
Ms. Cretnik had worked as a benefits coordinator for medical insurance.

Donald Ekstrom

Donald C. “Don” Ekstrom, 75, of Lombard, died Monday, March 1, in St. Charles.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 6, at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Road, Elmhurst. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
Mr. Ekstrom is survived by his children, Richard (Carmen), Randall (Alison), Rita (Jeff) Gary, Gail (Ron) MacKenzie, Donna (Phil) Gabrielsen, Donald (Lorry), Dale (Heather) and Gary; 15 grandchildren; sister, Mary Sue Dixon; and brother-in-law, John (Phyllis) Hannon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia A.; and sister, Betty (Harold) Carlstrom.
Memorials to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60601, would be appreciated.

Dorothy Flemming

Dorothy Flemming, nee Butcher, 88, of Lombard, formerly of Chicago, died Saturday, Feb. 27, at Lexington of Lombard.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 6, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Ascension of Our Lord Church, with the Rev. J. Damien Graziano officiating. Interment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip.
Mrs. Flemming is survived by her children, Michael, Patricia (Alan) Rossetti and Ann (Thomas) Kleinschmidt; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George E.; and four brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Flemming was a homemaker.

Frank Finek Sr.

Frank Finek Sr., 54, of Lombard, died Saturday, March 6, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services are being held today, March 10, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, with the Rev. John Guiney officiating. Interment is private.
Mr. Finek is survived by his father, Frank; children, Morgan and Frankie Jr.; siblings, Susan (George) Murawski and Gary Finek; sisters-in-law, Jill (Steve) Kovanic and Gay (Norvell) Bujarski; seven nieces and nephews; ex-wife, Cheryl; friend, Stephanie Skirkey; and father-in-law, Richard Bauman. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen; and mother-in-law, Ruth Bauman.
Mr. Finek had worked as a plumber.

Phyllis Locke

Phyllis Marie Locke, 90, of Battlefield, Mo., formerly of Lombard, died Oct. 6, 2009, in Battlefield.
There was a private service on Oct. 9 at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Springfield, Mo.
Mrs. Locke is survived by her sons, John (Christie) and Henry (Karen); four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Havel; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; and daughter, Georgene.

Rosemary Long

Rosemary Long, 3, of Lombard, died Saturday, Feb. 27, at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 3, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Tom Corbino officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Rosemary was the daughter of Mike and Tina Long; sister of Katie, Charlie, Tom, Mary, Joey and Michael; granddaughter of Patricia Long and Charles and Dolores Peila; great-grandfather, Joseph Peila; aunts and uncles, John (Carol) Long, James (Cara) Long, MaryJo Long, Patricia (Harold) Janecek, Joseph A. Peila and Kathleen (Ben) Ramp; and many cousins and great-aunts and -uncles. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Philip Long.
Memorials in accordance with the wishes of the family would be appreciated.

Joseph Lupo

Joseph A Lupo, 86, of Lombard, died Monday, March 1, at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital in La Grange.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 5, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Lupo is survived by his son, Jerrold (Darlene); and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, June; and son, Joseph.
Mr. Lupo was a resident of Lombard since 1954. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Worker’s Local Union #73 in Hillside.

Mary Matthews

Funeral services for Mary C. Matthews, nee Fiene, 84, of Villa Park, were held Tuesday, March 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Villa Park. Interment was at Zion Lutheran Church in Bensenville.
Mrs. Matthews is survived by her children, Roy (Sue), Larry and Debbie (Tom) Bailey; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; parents, Fred E. and Mary Fiene; and sister, Caroline Fiene.
Mrs. Matthews attended Salt Creek School District 48 for grade school, in a one-room school at that time. She was a homemaker, worked for Ovaltine in Villa Park and was a den mother for Cub Scouts at Trinity Lutheran School for seven years.

Karen Miklovic

Karen S. Miklovic, nee Betlee, 61, of Lombard, died Saturday, Feb. 27.
No visitation or service was held per her wishes.
Mrs. Miklovic is survived by her mother, Doris Betlee; children, Stacey (Jimmy) Cybulski, Christ Miklovic and Brian (Donna) Miklovic; six grandchildren; siblings, Dean Betlee and Jill Beckwith; two nieces and five nephews; and a number of great-nieces and a great-nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and father, Stan Betlee.

Theodore Niziolek

Theodore Niziolek, 86, of Lombard, died Tuesday, March 2, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 6, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Notre Dame Church in Clarendon Hills, with the Rev. Robert Schuler officiating. Interment was at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles.
Mr. Niziolek is survived by is wife, Betty, children, Patricia (Chester) Zdanowski and Carolyn (Fred) Massarelli; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Lottie Ciesla and Frank Niziolek.
Mr. Niziolek had worked as a faucet polisher.

Domenica Padalino

Domenica “Mae” Padalino, nee Pappalardo, 91, of Lombard, died Thursday, March 4, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 8, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Tom Corbino officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Padalino is survived by her children, Nancy G. (Walter Jr.) Perek and Alfred (Carol); three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvatore “Sam”; granddaughter, Sandra Nugent; and siblings, Grace Sciuto, Alfred Pappalardo and eight others.
Mr. Padalino was a longtime resident of Lombard.

Juliet Recine

Juliet Ann Recine, nee Shaffer, 49, of Lombard, died Wednesday, March 3, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 8, with prayers from Brust Villa Park Funeral Home, 305 S. Princeton, Villa Park, to Mass at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Recine is survived by her husband, Michael; children, Jordan Shaffer, Stephanie, Nicole and Michael Recine; brothers, John (Nancy) Shaffer, Bill (Susan) Shaffer and Tom Shaffer; many nieces and nephews; and best friend and lifelong companion, Eileen Shaffer.
Mrs Recine was committed to serving her family. She was a lifelong lover of the arts, music and ballet. She loved to travel, especially to the beach; and enjoyed volunteering with her husband at Inspiration Corp. in Chicago.

Constance Thompson

Constance Brunton “Connie,” “Con” C. Thompson, nee Schacke, 81, of Oak Brook, died Sunday, March 7, at Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale.
Visitation will be Friday, March 12, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 13, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard. Interment is at Rosehill Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles M. “Chub”; children, Michael, Linda (Fred Edwards), Mary, Peter (Franceen), Jerry (Peggy), Matt (Cindy), Marty (Christa) and Maggie (Martha); 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald; and grandson, Gregory.
Mrs. Thompson lived and raised her family in New Jersey, Ohio, Texas and, for the last 38 years, in the Oak Brook area. She was active in her children’s schools, within her Catholic parishes, the outreach ministries and the altar societies. She was an avid bridge player and a gifted knitter, and had a love of reading.

Margaret Zaruba

Funeral services for Margaret E. Zaruba, 93, of Villa Park, were held Tuesday, March 9, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Acacia Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Zaruba is survived by her children, Marilyn Bishop and John (Mary); four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J.; and granddaughter, Michelle.
Mrs. Zaruba was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
