Clement Alley

Clement W. Alley, 89, of Lombard, Ill., formerly of DeKalb, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2010, at Lexington Square in Lombard. He was born April 29, 1921, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Elsie (Stika) Alley. He married Norma P. Marchal April 11, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Clem was a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago School of Industrial Design. He was employed as an industrial designer for 37 years. Clem was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving as a flight engineer on a B-17 bomber during World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in DeKalb, World War II Combat Flyers Group, Aurora Movie Camera Club and a former member of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; two daughters, Marsha Pobst of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Claudia (Bud) Haimann of Lombard, Ill.; four grandchildren, Beth and Michael Pobst, Eric and Ben Haimann; sister, Ruby O’Dea of Houston, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Betty Marchal of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him, Frank and Amelia Stika; his parents; his brothers in-law and sisters in-law, Paul and Mary Marchal, Ralph and Phyllis Meyer and Larkin O’Dea; and mother- and father-in-law, Paul and Velma Marchal.
Funeral Services were held Monday, October 11, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in DeKalb with the Rev. Brian Gilbert officiating. Burial followed the services at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb, with Full Military Rites provided by the DeKalb County Honor Guard.

Frank Grass

Frank Grass Jr., 65, passed away Saturday, October 2, at his home in Lexington, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; loving father, Frank Grass Sr. (Jo); brother, David Grass (Viki); sister, Debra Shipp (Gene); niece, Kristen Grass; and many loving cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine; and brother, John.
Mr. Grass was a longtime resident of Lombard. He graduated from Glenbard East High School and served in the U.S. Army.
Memorials to the Cure for Cancer Foundation in Frank’s memory would be greatly appreciated.

Eleanor Huls

Eleanor E. Huls, nee Erdmann, 76, formerly of Lombard, died Thursday, Oct. 7, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 11, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment was at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mrs. Huls is survived by her children, Carl (Christine) Turza and Karen (Michael) Turza Boylan; five grandchildren; siblings, Geraldine O’Rourke, Joan Manschreck of Lombard, William (Mary) Erdmann and George (Fran) Erdmann; uncle, Kenneth (Rita) Erdmann; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Nelson.
Mrs. Huls grew up in Chicago and moved to Gifford, Ill. She resided in Lombard since 1995, and was an active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was the financial secretary, a member of the senior Bible study and Martha’s Circle. She loved to bake and cook for other people and also loved gardening. She loved all of her family.

Gary Krause

Gary K. Krause, 72, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 11, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mr. Krause is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Laura (Michael) Woo, Bill (Marilen) and Tom (Kim) of Lombard; six grandchildren; brothers, Lynn (Kay) and Gil (Shirley); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gaylen and Loren.
Mr. Krause graduated from York High School in 1955, where he was captain of the varsity wrestling team his senior year. He retired in 1990 as a staff manager from AT&T.
He was a parishioner of St. Pius X Church in Lombard since 1967, where he volunteered in many different ways. He was known to many of his friends and family as “Have toolbelt, will travel” for the many electrical and telephone repairs he was asked to do all over the country; was a supporter of help for the homeless as a volunteer at PADS for almost 20 years; was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer and card player; and traveled across Europe, Hawaii, Alaska and to many of our national parks; but his favorite activity was being a giving dad to his three children and the “bestest” grandpa to his six grandchildren.
