Elsa Behrens

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 27, for Elsa M. Behrens, 99, formerly of Elmhurst and Bellwood.
Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
Mrs. Behrens is survived by her daughters, Renate (the late Donald) Ebeling and Eva (Truman J.); eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolf.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

Mercedes Hall

Mercedes Kathryn Oberwise Hall, 92, of Villa Park, died Monday, Aug. 23, in Villa Park.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 28, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Graveside services were held at North Cemetery in St. Charles.
Mrs. Hall is survived by her children, Joy Lynn (James) Beebe, Jon W. (Denise), William C. Jr. and Kurt C. (Debra) of Villa Park; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Mayme Oberwise; stepmother, Wilda Oberwise; husband, William Chester Hall; and sister, Elizabeth Reed.
Mrs. Hall was born in Aurora and graduated with honors from Batavia High School. In earlier years she was employed at Sears in Aurora, and both Block and Kuhl and Joseph Spiess and Co. in Elgin. She retired after many years as a switchboard operator in District 45 schools in Villa Park and Lombard.
Over the years, she was involved in various Episcopal church activities as a Sunday school teacher and member of both St. Theresa’s Guild and Altar Guild. She was involved in her children’s activities as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother. In Danville, Ill., she was known affectionately as “Grandma” by those participating in or attending performances of the Sunshine Dinner Theatre.
Mrs. Hall loved sewing, cooking, baking, knitting, crocheting, playing cards and spending quality time with her family. In her younger years she enjoyed horseback riding and golfing. She was known for passing on many wonderful lessons in love and living, and for living an exemplary life.
Memorials to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children would be appreciated.

Mary Verba

Funeral services for Mary T. Verba, 82, nee Rubadue, of Lombard, were held Friday, Aug. 27, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Villa Park.
Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio.
Mrs. Verba is survived by her daughter, Susan McDermott; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; children, Michael and MaryAnn Verba; and sister, Dorothy Rubadue.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
