Bonnie Arends

Funeral services for Bonnie L. Arends, nee Dietzel, 64, of Morris, formerly of Lisle, were held Tuesday, Sept. 14, from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Mass at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church. Interment was private.
Mrs. Arends is survived by her husband, Phillip C.; children, Thomas Phillip (Paula), Melissa Marie (Curtis) Haugabook and Patrick Christopher (Beth); seven grandchildren; brother, Edward (Barbara) Dietzel; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Leukemia Foundation of Chicago would be appreciated.

Heidi Buckingham

A memorial service for Heidi L. Buckingham, nee Rushton, 31, of Villa Park, was held Saturday, Sept. 11, at Steuerle Funeral Home 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Mrs. Buckingham is survived by her children, Seth and Colin; parents, Robert and Carol Rushton; siblings, Michael Rushton, Lori (Pat) McGrew, Christine Sidwell, Jeffrey (Melissa) and Jason Rushton; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, family memorials would be appreciated.

Christine Charmelo

Christine “Tootsie” Charmelo, nee Pietrarosso, 85, of Alden Gardens of Bloomingdale, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, at GlenOaks Hospital in Glendale Heights.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 13, with prayers from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Thomas Corbino officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Charmelo is survived by her sons, James (Jane) of Lombard, Dominic and Albert (David Tyree); five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; special niece, Christine (Ed) Linchester; and many other nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Christine Pietrarosso; husband, Albert; daughter, Christal (the late Pieter) Groeneveld; and siblings, Vito (the late Josie) Pietrarosso, Lucille (the late Frank) Rossi and Stella Esposito.
Born in Chicago, Mrs. Charmelo was a resident of Alden Gardens since February and was a longtime resident of Lombard, Villa Park and Glen Ellyn, before moving to Florida and then Tennessee. She was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lombard, where she participated in the prayer group; and belonged to New Beginnings, a group for divorced and widowed individuals.
She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and Yahtzee; and loved anything with a leopard print. In her younger days, she enjoyed roller skating.

Erwin Dankers

Visitation for Erwin C. Dankers, age 91, will be Friday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at noon at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home, 17W201 Roosevelt Road., Oakbrook Terrace (just west of Route 83).Interment is at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
He was the beloved husband of the late Doris; devoted father of Carol (Charles) Mollenkamp and Bruce (Carole) Dankers; loving grandfather Timothy (Paulina) Mollenkamp, Diane (Mark) Siegwald, Mark Mollenkam, Jennifer Dankers and Lindsay Lester; great-grandfather of Damian, Anna, Alyssa and Maksym; and fond cousin and “uncle” of many.

Gregg Dunk

Gregg A. Dunk, a lifetime resident of Villa Park, died Friday, Sept. 10.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Mr. Dunk is survived by his son, Alexx; mother, Ilamay Dunk; and siblings, Kathy (Ray) LaHood, Marsha (Curtis) Bandy, Irene (Kenneth) Alpen, David (Kim) and Marie (Richard) Rafferty. He was preceded in death by his father, James Dunk.
Mr. Dunk was a tile setter by trade.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that those who wish to honor Mr. Dunk’s memory perform a random act of kindness.

Mary Garla

Visitation for Mary B. Garla, nee Schnierle, 59, of Villa Park, will be held Thursday, Sept. 16, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 17, at St. Alexander Catholic Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment is private.
Mrs. Garla is survived by her husband, Bruno; daughter, Madelyn; siblings, Susan (Daniel) Wigg, Michael (Pam) Schnierle and John (Lynn) Schnierle; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Garla was retired from ComEd and was a member of IBEW Local #15.

Pauline Gehrs

Pauline H. Gehrs, 92, of Sycamore, died Monday, Sept.6, in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Patrick Boomhower officiating. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Ms. Gehrs is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Ferdinand and Pauline Gehrs; and siblings, the Rev. Gerhard (the late Martha) Gehrs, the Rev. Walter (Ester) Gehrs, Margaret (the late Erich) Albrecht, Carl (Margaret) Gehrs, Ruth (the late George) Flett and Martin (the late Mildred) Gehrs.
Memorials to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1165 Westmore-Meyers Road, Lombard, IL 60148, would be appreciated.

Alice Grove

A memorial Mass for Alice J. Grove, nee Turek, will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1S365 Main St., Lombard.
Mrs. Grove was the beloved wife of the late Edgar E.; loving mother of Shirley (the late Tony) Valevicious and the lated Edgar E. Grove Jr.; and proud grandmother of Ryan and Alec Barrett; dear sister of Adele (Jim) Ullmer, Aileen Fisher and Arthur Turek.
Mrs. Grove was a retired employee of Western Electric, and was a member of the Western Electric Pioneers.

Edith Johnson

Funeral services for Edith A. Johnson, nee Borgeson, 77, of Villa Park, were held Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Community Congregational Church in Villa Park. Private interment was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Lawrence; children, Gary (Laura) P, Linda (Johnny) Shelby, Susan (Mark) Head, Katherine (Gary) Crow and Carol (Dan) Fredrick; and four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Community Congregational Church Scholarship Fund, 410 S. Cornell, Villa Park, IL 60181, would be appreciated.

Theodore Koulback

Theodore G. Koulback, 79, of Aurora, formerly of Lombard, died Monday, Sept. 6, in Aurora.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 10, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mr. Koulback is survived by his wife, Mary Jean; children, Mary Beth (John) Provis, Robert (Candace), Steven (Denice) and James (Sharon); nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one on the way; sisters, Mary Lou (Joseph) Sullivan and Kathleen (Martin) Murray; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Hull.
Mr. Koulback was a resident of Lombard from 1962 to 2010. He had worked for Sears in Oak Brook for 30 years and was a longtime member of St. Pius X Church. He had been a volunteer for 17 years at  Marianjoy Rehab, was a volunteer at St. Pius X School and was on the Worship Commission. He would visit the sick with Sister Pauline and was quoted as saying, “I’ve had a wonderful life and would wish the same for my children and friends.”

Richard Lawson

Funeral services for Richard W. Lawson, 54, formerly of Wood Dale and Elmhurst, were held Thursday, Sept. 9, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Lawson is survived by his children, Richard W. Jr., Dylan James, Rachel Adell and Thomas R. Pinskey; siblings, Jack R., Donna E. (Richard) Helton, Allen S. (Laura) and Jeffrey B. (Terry); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marilyn Lawson.

Victor Norderud

Victor Norderud, 84, of Lombard, died Saturday, Sept. 11, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services are being held today, Sept. 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Patrick Boomhower officiating. Interment is private.
Mr. Norderud is survived by his wife, Caroline; children, Paul and Carrie Weiland; siblings, Vincent (Jewel) Norderud; and brother-in-law, Lila (the late Milton) Dirks. He was preceded in death by his half brother, Charlie (the late Rose) Leppan; and sisters-in-law, Beverly (the late Guenter) Frenzel, Charmine (the late Jack) McIver, Dawn (the late Art) Smith, Jeannine (the late Frank) Tomaszski and Erna (William) Britt.
Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church would be appreciated.

Patricia Quinn

Patricia E. Quinn, 68, of Sun City Center, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 7, in Tennessee.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 13, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was private at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Mrs. Quinn is survived by her husband, Fred; children, Rita (Jon) Krilich and Daniel (Penny Cato) three grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Frederick.
Mrs. Quinn was a registered nurse, EMT, pilot, carpenter and scuba diver. She was a very devout Catholic.

Leigh Sprague

Leigh “Roy” Sprague; 90, of Lombard, formerly of Villa Park, died Saturday, Sept. 11, in Lombard.
A memorial visitation and service will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is private.
Mr. Sprague is survived by his son, Rick (Sandy); daughter-in-law, Susie; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ivan Berry; one niece; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie E.; son, Bill; and sister, Nina Berry.
Mr. Sprague was a resident of Lombard for 30 years. He was a 30-year retired employee of International Harvester.

Rosemarie Thear

Rosemarie Thear, 83, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Wynscape Healthcare in Wheaton.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 10, at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church in Elmhurst. Interment was a Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Ms. Thear is survived by her brother-in-law, Albert Didier; nephews, Robert J. (Joann), Donald (Mary), Bruce (Renee) of Lombard, Raymond (Donna) of Villa Park and David; many nieces and nephews; and many great- nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Didier; and cousin, Lucille Vincent.
Ms. Thear was a resident of Wheaton for over 15 years and was formerly of Elmhurst. She was a graduate of Austin High School in Chicago and was a member of Elmhurst Presbyterian Church, where she had been active in Ruth’s Circle.

Mari Wilson

Mari J. Wilson, 74, died Sept. 8, 2010, in Lakeland, Fla.
Mrs. Wilson was born Jan. 30, 1936, in Oak Park, Ill., and was a computer data processor.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Louise Simmons; two sons, Mark and Troy; and is survived by her son, Todd Wilson of Lakland, Fla.; daughter, Daryl Fuldala of Largo, Fla., grandchildren, Holly, Mark, Michael, Matthew Wilson and Alex Van Anroy; and five great-grandchildren.
