Mary Behrends

Mary T. Behrends, nee Cronin, 83, of Lombard, died Friday, April 1, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 6, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery.
Mrs. Behrends is survived by her children, Patricia M. (Edward J.) Cunneen of Lombard, Raymond T. Jr. of Lombard, Mary E. (Luke) Kelly of Lombard, Janet L. (Joe) Imbrogno of Lombard, Ellen T. of Lombard and Virginia A. of Lombard; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Betty Behrends; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Raymond Sr.; and one brother and two sisters.
Mrs. Behrends had been a resident of Lombard since 1952. She had graduated from Rosary/Dominican University in 1949 and also graduated from Longwood Academy. She had worked at AT&T-Illinois Bell and retired after 21 years.
Mrs. Behrends was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where she attended Mass daily, where she was a former member of CCW and also where she washed and ironed vestments. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Robert Benard Jr.

Robert J. Benard Jr., 53, of Lombard, died Sunday, April 3.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 7, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Benard is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; sons, Christopher of Lombard and Bradley of Lombard; father, Robert J. Sr. of Lombard; siblings, Kathy (Daniel) Pennella, Karen of Lombard, Kristine and Michael of Lombard; six nieces and nephews; and many aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Ann.
Mr. Benard was a lifelong resident of Lombard. He had attended Glenbard East High School and was a car enthusiast.

Michael Gentile Jr.

Gentile Jr., Michael, age 80, of Lombard. Loving husband of Joan, nee Mitchell; beloved father of Richard (Judy), Kenneth, Janet (the late Bill Schraft) and Lori (Douglas) Beck; proud grandfather of David and Stephen Gentile, Michael, Scott and Jessica Schraft, Christopher and Danielle Beck; fond brother of the late Joseph (Florence) and the late Victor (late Veronica) and fond uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Originally from Chicago, Mike later moved to Tinley Park in 1960 and subsequently moved to Lombard in 1965, where he lived for the last 46 years. He served in the United States Army from Aug. 12, 1952, to May 12, 1954, in the 213th Field Artillery, BN, Battery C, during the Korean War, earning two battle stars. Upon discharge, he married his beloved wife
Joan in 1954 and they spent 57 wonderful years together. Mike worked for Lord Label Manufacturing Company as a salesman for 38 years and retired in 1995.

He dearly loved his family and faithfully served his church, Faith United Methodist Church. Mike was passionate about the game of baseball. He played baseball during his high school years and beyond. One day a scout from the Chicago White Sox came to his house when Mike wasn't home and Mike's mother told him that Mike wasn't interested in playing professional baseball since she wanted him to go to college. Mike didn't know that until years later, but when he was informed of this, he said that he didn't think he was good enough to play professional baseball. Mike also coached his sons' Little League, Bab Ruth and American Legion baseball teams and later became an umpire.

Mike loved watching his Chicago White Sox and loved to relate how he and his father attended two of the 1959 World Series games in Chicago, which series the White Sox lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers. During his retirement years, Mike enjoyed playing golf, which he had been playing since his youth, bowling, traveling and attending his grandchildren's various sporting events and concerts.

Mike was a wonderful husband, father, uncle and grandfather. He also had a great sense of humor and made friends very easily. A prayer service will be held Friday, 9:15 a.m. from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Faith United Methodist Church, 815 S. Finley, Lombard, for a 10 a.m. funeral service. Visitation is Thursday, 3 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Cedar Park Cemetery, Chicago.

Ernestine Glazier

Ernestine D. Glazier, nee Dodge, 75, of Lombard, died Sunday, April 3, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Memorial service arrangements are pending at Grace Baptist Church in Lombard.
Mrs. Glazier is survived by her husband, Alfred F.; children, Connie (Bob) Lederer, Anthony (Dawn) Jones of Lombard, Melissa (Dave) Worters and Albert Jr. (Rose) of Lombard; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Dean (Bill) Copeland; and many nieces, nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark.
Mrs. Glazier was a resident of Lombard for 40 years. She was a secretary for the DuPage County Senior Citizens Council, was a former shop manager for Mr. Donut and was a former church secretary of Grace Baptist Church.

Hazel Mills

Hazel Mills, nee Galey, 89, of Lombard, died Wednesday, April 6, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 9, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was private.
Mrs. Mills is survived by her son, Scott (Sara); five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L.
Mrs. Mills was born and raised in Tennessee and had been a resident of Lombard for 65 years. She served as business manager and board secretary at the Helen M. Plum Memorial Library from 1966-86, was a member of the Lombard Service League for 32 years and in her later years was active with the Lombard Woman’s Club.
She served on the Friends of the Library Board for several years and compiled a history of the Friends of the Library covering 1929-91. She treasured times shared with family and friends; and enjoyed gardening, traveling and reading.

Richard Sunbury Jr.

A memorial visitation for Richard F. Sunbury Jr., 60, of Villa Park, formerly of Elmhurst, was held Monday, April 11, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Mr. Sunbury is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Richard III (Riza) and Stacy (Michael) Nickles; six grandchildren; and siblings, Deb (Gary) Dahl, Don and James (Lorraine). He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Sr. and Florence Sunbury.
