Mary Behrends

Mary T. Behrends, nee Cronin, 83, of Lombard, died Friday, April 1, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital
Funeral services will be held today, April 6, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. Interment is at Assumption Cemetery.
Mrs. Behrends is survived by her children, Patricia M. (Edward J.) Cunneen of Lombard, Raymond T. Jr. of Lombard, Ellen T. of Lombard and Virginia A. of Lombard; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Betty Behrends; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Raymond Sr.; and one brother and two sisters.
Mrs. Behrends had been a resident of Lombard since 1952. She had graduated from Rosary/Dominican University in 1949 and also graduated from Longwood Academy. She had worked at AT&T-Illinois Bell and retired after 21 years.
Mrs. Behrends was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where she attended Mass daily, where she was a former member of CCW and also where she washed and ironed vestments. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

William Coons

A memorial service for William “Bill” Coons, who died Wednesday, March 23, will be held Sunday, April 10, at 1:30 p.m. at DuPage Airport, 31W775 North Ave., Suite 5, St. Charles (beige building next to brick government building).

Edward Foreman

Edward L. Foreman, 75, of Lombard, died Friday, March 25, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 2, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, with the Rev. Elton Heimsoth officiating. Interment was private.
Mr. Foreman is survived by his wife, Donell; children, Kevin, Eric (Mary), Edward (Debbie), Denise (Jake) Landskroener and Derrick; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sally Ann (the late Nick) DelRay.
Mr. Foreman had worked as director of crew management for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad. In his retirement he enjoyed his dogs, woodworking, restoring his older home, reading books, working on puzzles and watching movies.

James Frank Sr.

James A. Frank Sr., 33, died suddenly in his sleep on Sunday, March 27, at his home in Rock Hill, S.C. He was born Gary Lee Karau Jr. on Feb. 24, 1978, in Hinsdale, Ill.
Private memorial services were held March 31 in Rock Hill, S.C., and a second memorial service will be held on April 17 at the family's church where he worshiped as a child in Downers Grove, Ill. 
James was a devoted and loving father to Brittany, 15, Brooke, 13, and James Jr., 11; and is survived by Mary, the mother of his children. He was the beloved son of Mary Matejka (William), formerly of Villa Park, now of Maple Park, Ill.; brother to Theresa Sadler (Troy), Sarah Dothard (Beejay), Girard Schwarz III, and Anna and John Matejka; and loving uncle to Victoria, Savannah, Kaela and Kilee.
James was called home to God suddenly and left a hole in our hearts, but we trust that he is safe in God's hands. In lieu of flowers, the family requests prayers.

Donald Geigner

Donald J. Geigner, 66, of Bloomington, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at the Bickford House in Bloomington.
His memorial Mass was held Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at St. Patrick Church of Merna, Bloomington, with Msgr. Gerald T. Ward officiating. Interment was private.
Mr. Geigner is survived by one daughter, Kimberly (Andy) Freborg, Stow, Ohio; one son, Charles T. (Josephine) Geigner, Urbana; two grandchildren, Timothy and Anastasia; and one brother, Charles L. (Judith) Geigner, Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Don was born Jan. 11, 1945, in Chicago, the son of Roman and Alice Burnet Geigner. He was the chief broadcast engineer for WTTW Channel 11 in Chicago for many years, retiring in 2005. He was a ham radio operator and his call sign was K9H0Q. Don was a member of the IBEW and 50-year member of the American Radio Relay League, enjoyed flying and was a private pilot.
Don’s family would like to thank the staff at Bickford House for all their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Cancer Center in Normal.

Ernestine Glazier

Ernestine D. Glazier, nee Dodge, 75, of Lombard, died Sunday, April 3, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

Martha Gustafson

Martha Ellyn Gustafson, nee Jirsa, 86, of Lombard, died Sunday, April 3, in Lombard.
A memorial services will be held Saturday, April 9, at First Church of Lombard, 220 S. Main St., Lombard.
Mrs. Gustafson is survived by her children, Ellyn Ford, Richard (Luz) and Diane (Phillip) Zerbe; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland.
Mrs. Gustafson was born and raised in Lombard, in a home built by her family over 60 years ago. Her father, Frank, started Lombard’s first newspaper and her brother, Frank, was a former village president. She was a member of First Church of Lombard her entire life. She was loved by her children and was eagerly awaiting the birth of her first great-grandchild, due to be born this week.

Maria Korynecky
Maria Korynecky, 87, of Villa Park, died Monday, March 28.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 1, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mrs. Korynecky is survived by her husband, Alex; children, Irene Shaffer, Hosanna and Gladys (David) Novotny; and brother, Joseph Stanczak. She was preceded in death by her son, Nestor.

Maria Kraus

Maria P. Kraus, nee Pfanne, 98, of Downers Grove, died Sunday, March 27, in Downers Grove.
A graveside service at Acacia Park Cemetery was held Wednesday, March 30, with the Rev. Hendrik Boer officiating.
Mrs. Kraus was the mother of Chris Quick, grandmother of three, great-grandmother of eight; and aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur.
Mrs. Kraus born in Biebrich, Germany. She was a homemaker and member of Lombard Christian Reformed Church.

Mary Krauss

Mary D. Krauss, nee Gerchak, 99, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Chicago, died Wednesday, March 30, in Glen Ellyn.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 4, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Petronille Church in Glen Ellyn. Interment was at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles.
Mrs. Krauss is survived by her husband of 64 years, Anthony J.; children, Sylvia Riefler, Edward, Virginia Kvech and Kathryn (Ray) Byolinowski; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Mrs. Krauss was a resident of Glen Ellyn for two years and of Chicago for over 90 years. She was a seamstress and a former member of St. Priscilla’s Church on Addison Street in Chicago.

Kimberly Mastrodonato

Kimberly Ann Mastrodonato, 49, of Lockport, died Tuesday, March 29, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 2, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was private at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Ms. Mastrodonato is survived by her children, Anthony and Nicole Ruggiero; one grandchild; parents, Dominick M. and Shirley A. Magner; brothers, Dominick (Dana) Mastrodonato, Michael (Billie) Mastrodonato and Jason Magner; sister-in-law, Ann Mastrodonato; aunt, Mary Jane Colmatteo; uncles, Riccardo and Robert (Dawn); many other relatives; and former husband, Chuck Patterson. She was preceded in death by her brother, Riccardo Mastrodonato.
Ms. Mastrodonato was a resident of Lockport for four years and was formerly of Bolingbrook. She grew up in Glendale Heights and attended Glenbard North High School.

Norman Newton

Norman Newton, 90, of Lombard, died Friday, April 1, at Good Samaritan Hospital, after a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 4, at First Church of Lombard in Lombard.
Mr. Newton is survived by his wife of 67 years, June; children, Pamela (Phillip) Hartweg, Deborah (Robert) Miller, the Rev. Joseph and Paul (Karen); 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Edith, Maud, Mary and Robert.
Mr. Newton graduated from Westford Academy in 1938, then after working and attending college, joined the U.S. Navy in August 1942. He served at the Weymouth, Mass., Naval Air Station until February 1946, retiring as a petty officer first class.
He moved to Lombard in 1957, and had most recently worked at Sears’ corporate office from 1965 until retiring in 1985. He loved playing bridge, cards and cribbage; and enjoyed an annual July trip with family to Ocean Park, Maine. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf and watching the Cubs.
Mr. Newton was a longtime member of the Lombard Early Morning Golf Association; and was an active member of First Church of Lombard, where he was a member since 1957 and spent many hours volunteering at the church, and also at Good Samaritan Hospital.

John Neely

John Richard Neely, 87, of Palmetto, Fla., formerly of Lombard, died Thursday, March 17, in Florida.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 20, at the Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota.
Mr. Neely is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Daniel (Barbara), Chris of Lombard and Karen (Ronald) Pieper; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Mr. Neely was a longtime resident of Lombard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, having served in Europe in the 229th Field Artillery Battalion in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for many years for Jewel Food Stores and was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, supervising many camping and hiking trips. He enjoyed playing golf and traveling with Dorothy in their motor home.

J. Guadalupe Padilla

J. Guadalupe Padilla, 64, of Woodridge, died Tuesday, March 29, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 4, at Brust Villa Park Funeral Home, 305 S. Princeton, Villa Park. Internment was at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mr. Padilla is survived by his wife, Maria; children, Manuel and Maria (Eloy Duran Perez) Padilla; and four grandchildren.
Mr. Padilla had worked at Pappadeaux Restaurant as a cook.

Bernice Pellegrino
Bernice M. Pellegrino, nee Fitzmaurice, 88, of St. Charles, formerly of Lombard, died Tuesday, March 29, at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in St. Charles.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 2, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Entombment was at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Hillside.
Mrs. Pellegrino is survived by her sons, Jim “Skip” and Ron (Kathy); five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Corrine Dodovich; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James.
Mrs. Pellegrino was a resident of St. Charles for six years and was formerly of Lombard for 40 years. She was a 1940 graduate of Austin High School, a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard.

Jane Ripley

Jane Ripley, nee Werbowetzki, 87, of Villa Park, died Sunday, March 27.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 2, at St. Pius X Church in Lombard, with a graveside ceremony at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Ripley is survived by her children, Kathleen (Victor) Ripley Leo, Carollyne (Lawrence) Kelly, Thomas (Deborah), Alexandra (Greg) Kimball and Robert (Rhonda); 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, who was a Mayflower descendant.
