Gloria Bornsen

Gloria A. Bornsen, nee Vaughn, 85, of The Meadows of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Oak Brook and Lombard, died Friday, Aug. 5, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is at Concordia Cemetery in Forest Park.
Mrs. Bornsen is survived by a nephew, a godson and dear friend Carol (Gunnar) Hogfelt of Batavia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Carl; daughter, Cynthia A.; parents, Wallace A. and Mary Helen Bond Vaughn; and brother, Wallace B. (Lee) Vaughn.
Mrs. Bornsen had been a resident of Lombard for 36 years and was a winter resident of Fort Lauderdale since 1973. She had formerly been active at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard.

Anthony Calderaro

Anthony F. Calderaro, 73, of Lombard, died Friday, Aug. 5, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 9, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S.  Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was private at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Calderaro is survived by his children, Anna C. (John Sr.) Sullivan and Anthony R. (Laura D.); many grandchildren; brother, Peter (Loretta); former wife, Christine; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross F. and Ann; and brother, Ross.
Mr. Calderaro was a resident of Lombard for 48 years.

Ann Duda

Funeral services for Ann M. Duda, 91, of Villa Park, formerly of Lyons, were held Monday, Aug. 8, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Duda is survived by her children, George G. (Francine), the Rev. Robert and Mary Ann (Richard) Duda; two grandchildren; brother-in-law, Wilfred Merriman; and was the aunt and great-aunt of many. She was preceded in death by her husband, George C.; and sister, Josephine Merriman.

Edward Hughes

Edward L. Hughes, 86, a lifelong resident of Villa Park, died Sunday, Aug. 7.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 11, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 12, at the funeral home. Interment is at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty; children, Cynthia (John) Schoenfeld, Barbara (John) Hilgart and John; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hughes served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Co., and retired from the Villa Park Fire Department as a paid on-call firefighter. He enjoyed his family, nieces and nephews, and friends, in addition to enjoying hunting and fishing.

Colette Kirchner

Colette V. Kirchner, nee Vorva, 84, of Lombard, died Sunday, Aug. 7, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Visitation and funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment is at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mrs. Kirchner is survived by her nephew, Christopher (Kim) Vorva; niece, Jeannette McPhail; cousin, Gloria Martino; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Vorva. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years. Donald; brother, John Vorva; and cousin-in-law, Robert Martino.
Mrs. Kirchner had worked for the Chicago Tribune for over 30 years and was an avid reader and traveler.

George Kolak

George Kolak, of Villa Park, died Friday, Aug. 5, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 8, at St. Alexander Church gathering space in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Kolak is survived by his wife, Marianne, whom he married in 1942; children, Marianne “Randy” (Terry) Kral, Rosemary (Chuck) Kero, Betty Lou Jones, Nancy (Pat) Feulner, Margaret Ann (Randy) Giagnorio and Donna (Mark) Metzendorf; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, George McNulty. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Stanley Wienckowski; and siblings, Gene and Steve Kolak, and Mae Scott.
Mr. Kolak was a graduate of Schurz High School and DePaul University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served during World War II as a navigator/bombardier in the China-Burma-India Campaign.
He was a longtime member of VFW Post #2801 and was an avid gardener.

Edward George Kostal

Edward George Kostal, of Canadensis, Penn., died on July 18, 2011, after a long illness.
A memorial service will be held in September.
Mr. Kostal was born on Nov. 7, 1945, in Berwyn, Ill., to the late Claire and Edward Kostal. He was the loving brother of Judy C. (Ron) Keller and Jerilyn G. (Bob) Wollenzien; loving uncle of Steve (Eleni) Keller, Debbie (Chris) Hill, Rob Wollenzien and David (Laura) Wollenzien; and fond great-uncle of Sophia, Keller, Taso, Kristian and Ada Claire.
Mr. Kostal grew up in Lombard, Ill., and graduated from Glenbard East High School and Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis. Following his military service in Vietnam he earned an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.

Clint Maggard

Clint Maggard, 52, of Villa Park, died Friday, Aug. 5, at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital in Glendale Heights, due to complications from diabetes.
Funeral services are being held today, Aug. 10, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Villa Park. Interment is private.
Mr. Maggard is survived by his wife, Maria; daughters, Adelaide and Renee; mother, Anita Maggard; siblings, Linda (Ken) Adamik, Rhonda (Len) Sourile and James; mother-in-law, Angeline Senese; sisters-in-law, Suzanne Senese and Patty (John) Gehron; brother-in-law, Michael (Sherri) Senese; many nieces and nephews; one great-nephew and one great-niece; and was a special cousin and devoted friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Maggard.
Mr. Maggard was an expert concrete and materials inspector who contributed to many important Chicago sites, including Soldier Field, Cellular Field, Chicago’s Deep Tunnel project, streets in Wrigleyville and the Dan Ryan bridges. He was a devoted and loving family man who wanted the best for everyone, was an avid Cubs fan and an aspiring screenwriter with a quick sense of humor. His benevolence and generosity will live on with the donation of his organs to the Gift of Hope.

Louis Matis

Louis John Matis, of Lombard, died Friday, Aug. 5, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 9, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Matis is survived by his children, Louis (Maureen), Janet C. (Michael) Cobb, David (Cherie), Allen (Katrina) and Donna (Robert) Berliner; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Pauline; and siblings, Bessie, Walter and Lydia.
Mr. Matis had been a Lombard resident since 1957 and a member of St. Pius X Parish. He was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps and served in World War II with an honorable discharge.

Larry Piet

Larry Piet, 54, of Carpentersville, died Sunday, Aug. 7.
Visitation is today, Aug. 10, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 11, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Thomas Corbino officiating. Interment is at Assumption Cemetery.
Mr. Piet is survived by his mother, Anne Piet; wife, Janice; children, Christopher and Ken; siblings, Dan Piet, Jane Piet Miles, Ken (Karen) Piet, Rich (Jody) Piet and Linda (Tom) Hartingan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Val Piet.
Mr. Piet was raised in Lombard and had worked as a project manager in construction.

Doris Zelenka

Mrs. Zelenka was a former 38-year resident of Villa Park.
