Robert Anderson

Visitation for Robert L. Anderson, 83, of Villa Park, will be held Friday, Aug. 19, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave. Interment is private.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; children, Wendy (Michael) Rodrigo and Steven (Susan); and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard.

Mary Brilliant

Mary Doris Brilliant, nee Zinnen, 86, of Villa Park, died Monday, Aug. 15, at Oakbrook Nursing Home in Oak Brook.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 18, at Brust Villa Park Funeral Home, 305 S. Princeton, Villa Park. Interment will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mrs. Brilliant is survived by her husband, Arthur; sons, Fred (Nancy) Becht and Greg Becht of Villa Park; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Brilliant was a resident of Villa Park since 1966. She grew up in Hobart, Ind., and attended high school there. She had worked for the Village of Lombard for 13 years, retiring in 1987; had worked in the legal department and the fire department; received various awards from the Village of Lombard; and had worked for the Villa Park Chamber of Commerce for 10 years as an executive secretary after her retirement.

Fred Gay

Fred Gay, 73, of West Chicago, formerly of Lombard, died Monday, Aug. 15, in West Chicago.
Visitation will be held today, Aug. 17, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 18, at Lombard Bible Church in Lombard. Interment is at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mr. Gay is survived by his wife, Rena; children, Robert (Nadine) and Laura (Victor) Goode; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruby Gay; and six brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Gay was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, had been a truck mechanic and owned Fred Gay Lift Truck for 34 years. He was a member of Lombard Bible Church, where he exemplified a spirit of encouragement and servanthood, helping in the church’s stockade and brigade ministries for the young boys, men’s programs and caring for the church property improvement.
Mr. Gay was loved by all who met him and was a special friend to the church staff. His character was one with spiritual strength, truth and honor.

Marie Grimes

Marie L. Grimes, nee LaPierre, 86, of Lombard, died Thursday, Aug. 11, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 13, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Peter Jarosz officiating. Interment was private.
Mrs. Grimes is survived by her children, Mary (Kevin) Kelly and Joe (Meaghan); five grandchildren; brother, Charles LaPierre; and a niece and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; and siblings, Jane LaPierre and Marion Glowacki.
Mrs. Grimes had worked as a registered nurse. She was Woman of the Year in 1984 and was a very involved member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Barbara Hanson

Barbara Hanson, nee Gats, of Lombard, died Sunday, Aug. 7, in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 12, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Thomas Corbino officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Hanson is survived by her children, Pamela (Raymond) O’Brien, Dawn, Thomas and Jeffrey (Kelleen); eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Audrey (Robert) Tinley; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; and brother, Thomas (Alice) Gats.
Mrs. Hanson had worked as an executive assistant.

Irene Janik

Irene V. Janik, nee Imbiorski, 76, of Arizona, formerly of Lombard, died peacefully in her sleep on Aug. 6, at her home in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Services will be private in Scottsdale where Irene will then be laid to rest next to her best friend and husband of 48 years.

Irene was the loving mother of four children, Jeffery (Nancy) of Arizona, Denise Dear, Lisa (Steve) Wendt of Huntley, and Nichole (James) Gavin of Lombard.

Irene loved to garden, enjoyed decorating her home, was an avid bingo player, and was a wonderful cook who loved to share with her family and friends. Irene and her husband owned a carpet store in Wheaton before retiring to Arizona.

Mary Ann Lytle

Mary Ann Lytle, 57, of Lombard, died suddenly Wednesday, Aug. 10, in Wisconsin.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 15, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Ms. Lytle is survived by her siblings, Nancy (Marty) Kerr of Lombard, James (Rita), Thomas of Lombard and Michael (Janelle); nephews and niece, James, Joseph and Danielle; and four great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel J. and Dorothy E.
Ms. Lytle grew up in Chicago and was a 1972 graduate of Notre Dame High School. She had worked at NALCO Co. in Naperville for over 20 years, had cared for her parents and had been her brother’s caregiver. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church.

Dennis Rice

Dennis A. Rice, 66, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Sunday, Aug. 14, at RML Specialty Hospital in Hinsdale.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 19, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, at the funeral home. Interment is private.
Mr. Rice is survived by his children, Deena (Peter) Wilkes, Jennifer (Rick) Winters, Jason (Maria) and Cheree (BJ Macias) Rice of Lombard; six grandchildren; sisters, Sharon (Robert) Meyer and Kathleen (John) Privitera) Banos; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and companion, Pamela Garnett.
Mr. Rice was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was retired from United Airlines, where he had worked for 35 years as a baggage handler.

Betty Stapleton

A memorial service for Betty K. Stapleton, nee Kroll, will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, at Grace Lutheran Church in Villa Park.
Mrs. Stapleton is survived by her children, Kathryn (Gerd) Renno, Mark T. (Jodi) and Kristin (Ken) Gill; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Marvin Kroll; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. George T.
Mrs. Stapleton was a former organist at Grace Lutheran Church.

Walter Stein

Walter E. Stein, 91, of Bloomingdale, formerly of Lombard, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Bloomingdale.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 11, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Stein is survived by his daughter-in-law, Carolyn; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Edward Arlis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances E.; son, Allan; and four brothers and sisters.
Mr. Stein was a resident of Bloomingdale for three years and was formerly of Lombard from 1955 to 2008. He grew up in southern Illinois and moved to Chicago after eighth grade during the Depression. He was a member of the Pipefitters Union and loved fishing, gardening, Canada and the outdoors, and was an avid card player.
