Dorothy Boswell
Dorothy I. Boswell, nee Decker, 82, of Lombard, died Sunday, Dec. 11, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment is at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Boswell is survived by her children, Jane, (Dr. Bob, DDS) Moen, Jon (Tia) and Sue (Dr. Bernie, DDS) Pawlowski; eight grandchildren; brother, Martin Decker; sisters-in-law, Edith Decker and Dorothy Decker; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Wesley; and brothers, Rudolph and Edgar Decker.
Mrs. Boswell was a resident of Lombard for 50 years. She grew up in Byron, Neb., and was a graduate of the University of Nebraska Nursing School. She had been a registered nurse at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital from 1978-91 on the 4th Floor West.
Mrs. Boswell was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years, and was an avid bridge player, bowler and reader.

Jesse Duran
Jesse J. Duran, 86, of Batavia, formerly of Lombard, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, in Batavia.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 13, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Duran is survived by his children, Diana Davis, David, Patrick (Brenda) and Ricardo (Nila); four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nine siblings. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Juanita; and son-in-law, Gene Davis.
Mr. Duran was a veteran of World War II, having served in Italy. He was wounded in February and June of 1944 and was the recipient of a Bronze Star and two Purple Heart medals. He loved to bowl, was always one of the first ones (along with his wife) on the dance floor, was a member of the UAW Local and loved spending time with his family.

Isabel Fraser, nee Williams, 88, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Betty Jane Hyde
A memorial service for Betty Jane “B.J.” Hyde, nee Moyer, 83, of Villa Park, will be held at a later date. Interment was private.
Mrs. Hyde is survived by her husband, Paul; son, David (Carol Malkinson) cousin, Don Petit; and childhood friend, Mabel Hanson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helen Moyer; and aunt, Mae Petit.

Leonard Kurkowski
Leonard Kurkowski, 85, of Lombard for 57 years, died Friday, Dec. 9, at Oakridge Nursing Home in Hillside.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 13, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mr. Kurkowski is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice; sons, Ted (Linda) and Gregory (Michele); three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Stanley, Ted, Chester, Jennie and Anna.
Mr. Kurkowski was born in Pennsylvania and immediately after high school was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served in the armored cavalry in Western Europe. Upon discharge from the service, he moved to Chicago, married Alice and used the G.I. Bill to earn a design engineering degree. His career consisted of design, engineering and executive management with his only employer, Chicago Manufacturing Co. in Chicago, Cicero, and finally, in northwest Georgia, where he retired as vice president in 1991. He also was a staunch Chicago Bears fan since World War II, and was known for being a consummate professional and perfectionist.

Edith O’Meara Mitchell
Edith O’Meara Mitchell of Seminole, Fla., formerly of Lombard, Ill., passed away Dec. 11 2011.
Mrs. Mitchell was the beloved wife of David for 63 years; cherished mother of Judi (Tom) Blakemore, Doug and the late Tom; loving grandmother of Ray Mitchell; and fond sister of Charlotte O'Meara Rowley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Mitchell was a graduate of Lawrence College, Class of 1948, and a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

James Palmer
James P. “Jim” Palmer, 71, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 12, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife, Carolyn G.; children, James T. “Jimmy” (Liz) of Lombard, David of Lombard, Suzanne (George) Spartz and Julie (Joseph) Glazier of Lombard; two grandchildren; siblings, John Michael (Linda), Daniel, Pat Wilde and Cathy (Dave) Aultman; sister-in-law, Laura; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank.
Mr. Palmer was a resident of Lombard for 53 years. He went to high school in Eugene, Ore., and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 673 and was a retired truck driver. He was dedicated to his job and was a hard worker. He worked for 40 years for Wagner Heating & Ventilation and was an avid fisherman and White Sox fan.
