Grace Brust

Grace Carol Brust, nee Konigsfeld, 90, of Elkhart, Ind., died Thursday, Jan. 27, at Woodland Manor in Elkhart.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Brust is survived by her daughter, Caren Rae Gay; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond F.; son-in-law, James E. Gay; brother, Lorne Philip Konigsfeld; and sister, Muriel.
Mrs. Brust was a resident of Elkhart for eight years, and was formerly of McHenry and Melrose Park. She was a graduate of Proviso East High School. She was devoted to her late husband and was an avid Cubs fan.

Theresa Capocci

Theresa Capocci, nee Van Kampen, of Lombard, formerly of Berwyn, died Friday, Jan. 28, in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, with the Rev. Merle Den Bleyker officiating. Interment was at Elm Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Capocci is survived by her children, Robert (Meredith) and Sandra (Edward) Wolters; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; and sister, Corine (William) Engel.
Mrs. Capocci had worked as a bookkeeper in photography.

Dale Evanovich

A memorial visitation for Dale W. Evanovich, 63, formerly of Villa Park, was held Thursday, Jan. 27, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Evanovich is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Brian (Margaret); siblings, Ray Evanovich, William (Karen) Arbuthnot and Devon Arbuthnot; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Evanovich was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during Vietnam.

Frances Hughes

Frances M. Hughes, 83, of Lombard, died Friday, Jan. 28, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Barrington.
Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 4, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard. Interment is at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip.
Ms. Hughes is survived by her nephew, Thomas Michael Hughes; niece, Jamee Curtice; great-nephew, Kigen Curtice; best friend, Donna Wilson; and many other good friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Joseph Hughes Jr.
Ms. Hughes was originally from the South Side of Chicago and later from Lombard. She attended Barry College, where she studied music and piano, and composed several songs for the piano. She later worked at a variety of locations as an accountant.
Ms. Hughes was an avid golfer, swimmer and skier with the Nomad Ski Club, and loved to travel, having traveled all over Europe. She had many friends and attended Christ the King Church in Lombard.

Jacqueline Kempf

Jacqueline J. “Jacquie” Kempf, nee Geritano, 59, of Lombard, died Sunday, Jan. 30.
Visitation will be held today, Feb. 2, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Mrs. Kempf is survived by her husband, Anthony G.; children, Kari (Richard) Ellis of Lombard, Anthony J. “T.J.” and Mike (Amanda Jacobs); four grandchildren; siblings, Irene (Thomas) Trakas and Frank (Donna) Geritano; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Constance and Janice.
Mrs. Kempf was a resident of Lombard for the past 40 years. She grew up in Broadview and graduated from Proviso East High School. She had been the secretary for singer Engelbert Humperdinck for the past 25 years. She was the past president of his fan club and the current fan liaison, and also maintained his Web site.

Ruth Kiereta

Ruth M. Kiereta, nee Bean, 92, of Downers Grove, formerly of Lombard, died Monday, Jan. 24, at Fairview Baptist Home in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 29, at Lombard Mennonite Church in Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Kiereta is survived by her daughter, Margaret “Meg” Kadzik; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Hilda Helmuth; sister-in-law, Lillian Bean; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew A.; and brother, Gordon Bean, who died the same day as her, in Canada.
Mrs. Kiereta was born in Canada and was a 1938 graduate of Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate High School. She received her teaching certificate in 1939 from Stratford Normal School and her B.A. degree from Goshan College in Indiana in 1947. She went from Canada to China and was a missionary in China from 1947-49, when she was deported by the Communists.
Mrs. Kiereta then served as a missionary in Japan from 1949-56, coming to Chicago in 1957. She was a resident of Lombard since 1975 and was a member of the Lombard Mennonite Church. She was a retired editorial assistant and had worked for CCH Inc., from 1957-61 and 1977-88.

Lavergne Lederer

Lavergne E. Lederer, 87, of Villa Park, died Thursday, Jan. 27, in Villa Park.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 31, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mrs. Lederer is survived by her children, Alva Reese, Avis (Earl) Hansen, Hope Klein, Dawn (Frank) Emmerling, Edwin, Burt (Renee) and Charlie; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her life partner, Robert Hargis; daughter, Enid; and son-in-law, Gerald Reese.
Mrs. Lederer love to sew, do crafts and bird watch. She loved working in her yard and was a wonderful gardener; enjoyed Big Band and Country music, loved to play bingo and go to garage sales. She was a very proud mother.

Irving Lesch

Irving R. Lesch, 88, of Lombard, formerly of Norridge, died Friday, Jan. 28, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 31, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Mr. Lesch is survived by his children, Christine (James “Ross”) Quinn and Lee (Laurel) of Lombard; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy M.; and two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Lesch had been a resident of Lombard for five years, Des Plaines for five years and Norridge for 46 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II in the 31st Infantry Division in the East Indies, New Guinea and South Philippines campaigns. He received the Combat Infantry Badge and three Bronze battle stars.
Mr. Lesch was retired from Castle Metals after 20 years as a steel salesman. He was a member of VFW Post #2992, was a former Cub and Boy Scout leader and was also a former member of the Moose and Lions clubs. He was a current member of the Elks Club in Des Plaines.

Robert Lindhorst

Robert H. Lindhorst, 53, of Villa Park, died Friday, Jan. 28.

Mrs. Lindhorst is survived by his wife, Maureen; children, Nicholas, Jacob (Jennifer) and Jenna; mother, Elvira Lindhorst; siblings, John Lindhorst, Dorothy (Eraldo) LaPietra and Sylvia (Gary) Potter; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John Lindhorst.

Viola Martens

Viola Jane Martens, 95, of McMinnville, Tenn., formerly of Villa Park, Bellwood and Guttenburg, Iowa, died Wednesday, Jan. 26.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Oakridge Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Martens is survived by her children, Henry A. “Bud” (Annette), Mary J. (General) Oaks and Nola M. (John) Scott; nine grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry a.; daughter, Elizabeth (Ralph) Bruder; and parents, Thomas and Lizzie Elliott.

Bernard Oyer

Bernard D. Oyer, 78, of Melrose Park, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 31, at Lombard Mennonite Church in Lombard. Interment was graveside at Elm Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Oyer is survived by his wife, Jean, whom he married in 1959; children, Clifford (Lois) and Carolyn (Bill) Russell; two grandchildren; siblings, Romeyn Oyer, Laverne (Pat), Clarence H. “Minnie” (Jeanne) Jr. and Joyce (Bob) Frey. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard; sister-in-law, Marilyn; and parents, Clarence and Alma Egle Oyer.
Mr. Oyer was a resident of Melrose Park since 1963 and was formerly of Chicago. He grew up in rural Livingston County and was a 1951 graduate of Cornell High School. He was a retired electrician from Local #134 , was a member of the Lombard Mennonite Church and was a member of the Wildfire Harley Owners Group (HOG) club.

Richard Sichrovsky

Richard J. “Sy” Sichrovsky, 85, died Wednesday, Jan. 26.
A memorial celebration will be held at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, on Saturday, Feb. 5. Interment is private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Mr. Sichrovsky is survived by his wife, Connie; children, Kathy (Jon) Lehuta, Steve (Kathy), Claudia (Dave) Stlaske, John, James and Barbara Sichrovsky Bombliss; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Sichrovsky was a veteran of World War II from 1942-49, and wrote about his U.S. Navy experiences in the Memorial Day 2000 edition of the Lombard Pride, which included serving in the U.S. Naval Armed Guard and protecting shipping from German U-boats in the North Atlantic. He went on to serve in almost every war theater, from Algiers to Anzio, the invasion of Southern France (Aug. 15, 1944) and finally the Pacific.
Mr. Sichrovsky was a graduate of the University of Illinois, and was a Sears National Headquarters advertising executive from 1952-80, and then an alcohol/drug counselor at the Chicago Salvation Army Freedom Center from 1980-83, before Parkinson’s disease caused him to be homebound.
Mr. Sichrovsky and his wife were pioneer settlers at Lombard Lilac Gardens, moving into their new home in 1957 when Charlotte Street south of Wilson was still an unpaved dirt road, wood planks served as sidewalks and Glenbard East was under construction. He was a member of Lombard American Legion Post #391, the Military Order of the Cooties (honorary degree of the VFW) and past senior vice commander of the DuPage County VFW Council. He was honored in 2005 as the oldest living commander of Lombard VFW Post #5815.
After marching in many Lilac and Memorial Day parades, he had been mobile in only a power wheelchair for the past 2 1/2 years, while receiving very skilled care at the Quincy, Ill., Veterans Home.

Juan Torres

Juan J. Torres, 60, of Lombard, died Saturday, Jan. 29, in Lombard.

Mr. Torres is survived by his wife, Patricia; siblings, Diane (Freddy) Cardenas and Tony (Laura); and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Torres was a resident of Lombard for 12 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served during the Vietnam War, was a member of the DuPage County Marine Corps League and was a member of Lombard American Legion Post #391.
