Helen Adams

Helen F. Adams, nee Owoc, 91, of Villa Park, died Sunday, Dec. 26, in Elmhurst.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 30, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Tom Corbino officiating. Interment was private.
Mrs. Adams is survived by her children Diana (Walter) Nowicki, W. Edward (Barb) Zarod, James (Laura) and Merry (Louie) Niezgoda; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Chris.
Mrs. Adams had worked as an administrator with Allstate Insurance.

Freda Burger

A memorial service for Freda M. Burger, nee Halach, will be announced.
Mrs. Burger is survived by her children, Linda Patricia Stenta, David and Dan; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister, LaVonne Halach. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank F.; children, Frank “Butch” and Barbara Ann (Bob) Paul; and brother, John (Dorothy) Halach.

James Cekal

James F. Cekal, 77, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Lombard, died Saturday, Jan. 1, in Glen Ellyn.
Visitation is today, Jan. 5, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, at Calvary Episcopal Church in Lombard. Interment is private.
Mr. Cekal is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Patricia; children, Douglas, Philip (Donna), Carolyn (Bill Czerny) and Suzanne (Peter) Dibben; three grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Cekal.
Mr. Cekal was born in Chicago in 1933 to Frank and Sylvia Cekal. He graduated from Northwestern University and served in the U.S. Army. His professional career included 26 years with Chicago Bridge & Iron Co.—an international engineering, fabrication and construction company serving the oil, gas petrochemical, water and power generation industries—where he served as a vice president and controller of Chicago Bridge and Iron Co. and CBI Industries Inc. before his retirement in 1991.
He had also been a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Bohemia and Westchester Masonic lodges for over 50 years. He was active during his earlier years in many volunteer activities, including as a Cub Scout master and assistant scoutmaster for his sons’ Cub Scout pack and Boy Scout troop; as a coach and manager for his daughters’ teams in the Lombard Park District girls softball leagues; was treasurer for over 14 years at Calvary Episcopal  church in Lombard and treasurer of the Three Fires Council; and was currently serving on the executive committee and executive board of the Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America. He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America for his distinguished service to youth.
Mr. Cekal was a world traveler and had visited over 35 different foreign countries both as a businessman and as a tourist. After retirement, his favorite activities were spending time with his family and friends and golfing with his buddies.

Thanas Cobo

Thanas Cobo, 77, of Lombard, died Sunday, Jan. 2, in Lombard.
Funeral services are being held today, Jan. 5, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn.
Mr. Cobo is survived by his wife, Verga; children, Ilir (Anastasia) of Lombard and Marjeta (Flamur) Ferhati of Lombard; three grandchildren; and sisters, Fotini Cobo and Ariste Cobo. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arqile; and sister, Pulie Gjika.
Mr. Cobo was born in Albania and was a resident of Lombard for five years. He was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Chicago.

Evelyn Stuckey Huk

Evelyn Stuckey Huk, nee Seeley, 82, died peacefully on Dec. 21 in the company of her family.
A memorial Mass was held on Dec. 28 at Wood Glen Pavilion in West Chicago, where she had resided for the past 12 years. Another memorial is planned in her hometown of Kansas City in February. Per her request, her body was donated to the University of Illinois Medical School.
She is survived by her loving husband, Adrian; her children, Marilyn, Pamela, Randy and Robin; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Roy Stuckey, and their infant son, Jeffrey; and by two sisters, Wilma and Myrna.
Evelyn will best be remembered for her enjoyment of music, her giving nature and her love of children. She played the clarinet in the high school marching band and sang alto in a trio with her two sisters. As a mother, she often sacrificed her money and time to enable her children to have many opportunities. She was active in church activities, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, and in her middle years ran a daycare center from her home. Late in life, despite her own failing health, Evelyn was primarily focused on the health and well-being of her husband, Adrian, who was her loving companion since their marriage in 1999.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the National MS Society or World Vision.

Thomas McGee

Thomas Charles McGee, of LaFarge, Wis., and Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Lombard, died in December at his Bradenton winter home after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
A memorial Mass is being held today, Jan. 5, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Mr. McGee is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gita; children, Mandy (Kerry Barnett) McGee, Carrie (Mark) Kotilinek, Thomas (Mary Jeanne), Kelly (Michael) Emerine, Patrick (Lisa), Charles (Kelly) and Ginny (Chuck) Stover; 16 grandchildren; siblings, Larry, Jean McIntyre and Marianne Petrucelli; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel LeRoy and Marie Mabel McGee.
Mr. McGee was a resident of Lombard for 41 years. He was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa, and Clarendon Hills. He graduated from Hinsdale High School. He was a 40-plus-year employee at Associated Technical Services in Villa Park, was an avid square dancer, served as a little league coach and was active in Silver Knights for many years. He loved the Yankees, Packers and Fighting Irish; loved the banter with his kids and grandkids about sports, their kids, their loves and their lives; and in addition to his family, he loved his social circles in the Lombard, LaFarge and Bradenton areas. He always enjoyed spending time with friends and family; laughing, telling stories and teasing with a twinkle in his Irish eyes.

Pam Nappi

Pam L. Nappi, 51, of Glen Ellyn, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, in Glen Ellyn.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 4, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Ms. Nappi is survived by her brothers, Tom (Gayla) and Paul (Madhu); nieces Melissa (Brian Rottman) Nappi, Andrea and Valerie; and uncle, Bob Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew A. Sr. and Laverne; and brother, Andy P.
Ms. Nappi was a resident of Glen Ellyn for 15 years and was formerly of Lombard, where she grew up. She attended Sacred Heart Grade School, was a 1977 graduate of Glenbard East High School and a 1998 graduate of National Lewis University. She was a member of Sacred Heart church and loved animals, especially dogs.

Joseph Ricely
A memorial visitation for Joseph A. Ricely, 78, of Lombard, will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Mr. Ricely is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Joseph A. (Christina) Riccelli, Anthony (Elizabeth), Lisa Rivera, Dean (Susan) and Ann Dixon; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Rosemarie (Nick) Lonigro; sisters-in-law, Darlene (Tom) Kamienski and Ada (Al) Oberton; and mother-in-law, Mary (the late Louis) Mariano. Francis Sanders

Francis Andrew “Bud” Sanders, 70, of Naperville, died Saturday, Dec. 31, in Naperville.
Visitation and funeral services are being held today, Jan. 5, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife, Jane C.; children, Tammy (Jon) March and Tanya (Paul Vetter) Romas of Lombard; two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; mother, Marie Olson; sister, Carol Altvatter; stepmother, Inez Sanders; stepbrother and stepsister, John (Joan) Gorenz and Rhonda (Donald) Macy; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carson (Paula) Schuler and Martha Schuler. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Sanders; and granddaughter, Kaylin Rood.
Mr. Sanders was a resident of Naperville from 2000 to 2010, and was formerly of Wheaton from 1979 to 2000 and Lombard from 1965-78. He grew up in Batavia and was a 1958 graduate of Naperville Central High School and a 1963 graduate of North Central College in Naperville. He retired from State Farm in 2000 after 38 years as a claims superintendent.
He was a competitive downhill skier, a golf instructor for the National Amputee Golf Association (NAGA) for the Disabled and Ski for Disabled. He spent part of each year in Naples, Fla., was a diehard Cubs fan and was a dedicated and proud grandfather.

Eleanor Zibrat

Eleanor D. Zibrat, nee Novosel, 80, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Chicago, died Friday, Dec. 31, in Glen Ellyn.
