Alex Coronado

Alex Coronado, 77, of Lombard, died Friday, July 15, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 19, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Coronado is survived by his wife, Anastacia; children, Lupe (Larry) Quigley, Alex Jr. (Mary) and Mark (Kirsten); 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; eight siblings; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by two siblings.
Mr. Coronado had been a resident of Lombard for 33 years and was a longtime member of Christ the King Church. He was a former referee for high school and grade school sports for over 40 years, and was a hall monitor at Glenbard East High School after retirement.

Karen Hoepfner

Karen S. Hoepfner, nee Koeller, 59, died Monday, July 11, surrounded by her family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 15, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Carol Stream.
Mrs. Hoepfner is survived by her husband of 37 years, Peter; children, Andy, Tim and Katie; brother, Gregg (Sue) Koeller; two nephews; two godchildren; and special friends, Jean and Mark Svetic. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Lillian Koeller.
Mrs. Hoepfner was a resident of Carol Stream for 23 years. She grew up in Des Plaines, graduated from Maine West High School and worked at Jewel-Osco in Carol Stream for 15 years.
She was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church; and was devoted to her family and their care, her friends, the Chicago Cubs and her dog, Tootsie.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1244 W. Army Trail Road, Carol Stream, Il 60188, would be appreciated.

Robert H. Johansen

Robert H. Johansen, age 90 of Waukesha, Wis., died Tuesday, July 12, at home.
Mr. Johansen is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn; children, Kristine (Colin) Gray of Lombard, Donna (Frederick) Martens of Las Vegas and Scott (Joanne) Johansen of Oak Forest; stepchildren, Gary Koeneman of Hawaii and Randall (Donna) Koeneman of Texas; grandchildren, Kimberlee (David) Kaliski of St Charles, Daniel (Cara) Martens, Douglas Martens, Elizabeth Torres and David (Melody) Martens of Las Vegas and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Johansen was a World War II Veteran, Co. A 1276th Engineers. He was a member of the Chicago Typographical Union and retired after working as a typesetter, in 1981. He was also a member of the Sons of Norway. He had many friends through the years and was a real “people” person.
Interment was at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, Wis.

Pauline Matis

Pauline Stefanie Matis, nee Soral, of Lombard, died Friday, July 15, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
A memorial Mass will be held Friday, July 29, at St. Pius X Church. Committal services and interment were held Saturday, July 16, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, with the Rev. Thomas Corbino officiating.
Mrs. Matis is survived by her husband, Louis, whom she married in 1950; children, Louis (Maureen), Janet C. (Michael) Cobb, David (Cherie), Allen (Katrina) and Donna (Robert) Berliner; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Irene (Kenneth) Rue. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Leon Soral and Chester Soral.
Mrs. Matis attended Saint Hyacinth grade school and Shurs High School in Chicago. She was a resident of Lombard since 1957 and had been a member of St. Pius X Church for 54 years.

Elizabeth Joan Milem

Elizabeth Joan Milem, 81, of Lombard, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Ill., on July 2, 2011.
Mrs. Milem is survived by her children, Sheryl “Sherry” (Ted) Washburn of Springfield, Ill., Garry (Delores) Milem of Ingelside, Ill., and Kerry (fiancée Jill Damien) of Lombard, Ill.; sister, Georgiana Rutherford of Buena Vista, Colo.; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and husband, N. Vernon Milem.
Mrs. Milem was born Jan. 28, 1930, in Marion, Ind., to Louis J. Pfefferle and Leota G. Smeltzer. She graduated from Marion High School and John Herron Art College in Indianapolis, Ind., and retired from Kmart after 35 years and was employed by Hobby Lobby for the past 13 years. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, July 24, 2011, at 2 p.m., at Lombard Church of the Nazarene, 536 N. Route 53 (Columbine Avenue), Lombard, IL 60148, with Ted Washburn officiating.

James William O’Connor

James William O’Connor, born Jan. 1, 1962, and died Monday, July 11, 2011.
Mr. O’Connor is survived by his mother, Joanne; sisters, Kathe, Judy and Sandy; and brother, Bob. He was preceded in death by his father, William; and brother, Billy.
Mr. O’Connor grew up in Villa Park, Ill., and had lived in Lisle, Ill., with Kerry Shea. He had worked for several companies as a butcher; and loved sports, old movies, John Wayne and had many more interests, including being an avid Harley rider.
His family, the Sheas and friends will miss him very much. He is loved by all and his spirit will always be with us.
