Dorothy Barela

Dorothy C. Barela, nee Cormany, 90, of Lombard, died Wednesday, June 8, at Bridgeway Christian Village in Bensenville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 11, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Fairmount Willow Hills Memorial Park in Willow Springs.
Mrs. Barela is survived by her children, Linda (Charles) Pilipauskas of Lombard and Thomas (Roxanne) of Lombard; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John.
Mrs. Barela was active at Trinity Lutheran Church, and was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She also loved to read.

John Benson

Funeral and burial services for John L. Benson, 48, of Lombard, were private.
Mr. Benson is survived by his mother, Rita I.; siblings, William H. of Lombard, Janet I. of Lombard, Rosemary (Robert) Baines, Annette T. (Rich) Janes; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry W.; and brother, Charles N.

Ray Bromley

Ray W. Bromley, of Lombard, died Wednesday, June 8, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 14, at Faith United Methodist Church in Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Bromley is survived by his wife, Barbara J.; children, Rebecca R. Hernandez, Bethany B. (Richard P. Row) Bromley, Christine J. (Michael T.) Jones, Jennifer R. (Melvin Kennett) Bromley and Craig W.; six grandchildren; a soon-to-arrive great-granddaughter; and brother, James Bromley. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Warren R. Olson Jr.
Mr. Bromley grew up in Chicago, and was a resident of Lombard for 43 years. He was a retired paint chemist and belonged to the VFW.

Christine Crossman

Christine A. Crossman, nee Zielinski, 53, of Bloomingdale, formerly of Glen Ellyn, died Monday, June 13, at GlenOaks Hospital in Glendale Heights.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Friday, June 17, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is private at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights.
Mrs. Crossman is survived by her sons, David E. (Sonja) and Carl J.; one grandchild; mother, Betty Zielinski; siblings, Jessie (Harley) Bradley, Jerome A. Zielinski Jr. of Lombard and Catherine J. (David) Woodrum; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; and father, Jerome Zielinski Sr.
Mrs. Crossman was a resident of West Suburban Nursing Home in Bloomingdale for eight years and was formerly of Glen Ellyn for five years, and Northlake. She was a graduate of West Leyden High School and had worked as an electrician. She was a member of the IBEW, loved riding her Harley motorcycle and enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking.

Donald Martin

Donald C. Martin, 86, of Ocala, Fla., formally of Lombard, Ill., passed on May 28, 2011, at home under the loving care of his family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Villa Park VFW hall at 39 E. St. Charles Rd., Villa Park, Ill., on June 25, 2011, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Barbara McIntyre

Barbara J. McIntyre, nee Mueller, 79, of Lombard, died Saturday, June 11, in Lombard.
Visitation is being held today, June 15, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 16, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. McIntyre is survived by her children, William (Anet) of Lombard, Patrick and Eileen (Ralph) Rich of Villa Park; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Carol (John) Klus; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald.
Mrs. McIntyre grew up in Chicago and had studied in Mexico. She was a resident of Lombard since 1969 and was a second-grade school teacher at Sacred Heart School in Lombard, where she taught for over 25 years. She began teaching in 1972 and after retiring from full-time teaching twice, served as a substitute teacher until 2010. She had done the Christmas program at the school.
Mrs. McIntyre was an extraordinary minister at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and loved bridge, gardening and science fiction.

Thomas Moberg Sr.

Thomas Edward Moberg Sr., 62, of Villa Park, died Tuesday, June 7, in Villa Park.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 10, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, with the Rev. James Zimmerman officiating. Interment was private.
Mr. Moberg is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Thomas Edward Jr., Tami, Traci (Stephen) Dittemore, Timothy and Tiffini; five grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and best friend, Jerry Japczyk.
Mr. Moberg had worked as a truck driver.

Gerald Murphy

Gerald F. Murphy, 82 of Lombard, died Monday, June 13, in Lombard.
Visitation will be today, June 15, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Joann M.; children, Debra A. (Thomas A.) Larson of Lombard, Jeffery M. (Charlotte), Kathleen M. (Denis) Denz of Lombard and Thomas N. (Erin); 11 grandchildren; best pal, Nautica; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Mr. Murphy was a resident of Lombard for 19 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and had retired as a lieutenant after 36 years with the Chicago Fire Department. He currently drove a school bus for Timothy Christian School.

Betty Niziolek

Betty Niziolek, nee Borski, 82, of Lombard, died Friday, June 10, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 13, at Christ the King Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Peter Jarosz officiating. Interment was at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles.
Mrs. Niziolek is survived by her children, Patricia (Chester) Zdanowski and Carolyn (Fred) Massarelli; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore “Ted.”
Mrs. Niziolek was a homemaker.

Patricia Gene Schwarz

Patricia Gene Schwarz, 83, of Summerfield, Fla., formerly of Lombard and Villa Park, passed away April 25, 2011.
Mrs. Schwarz is survived by her children, Fred (Paula), Susan (John) Graff, Girard (Julie), Dianne (John) Giammarino, and Michael Schwarz; seven grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Girard (Gerry) F. Schwarz; and daughter, Genell Margaret.
Pat enjoyed singing with The Fountain Singers, lunch outings with The Red Hats, playing cards, bingo and dominoes. Her family, friends and neighbors were very dear to her.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Pius X in Lombard, Saturday, June 18, 10:30 a.m. A reception for family and friends will be held in the Wagner Room immediately following. Cremation services were conducted in Colorado. Final resting will be with her husband at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.

George Stancel

George Stancel, 91, of Lombard, died Thursday, June 9, at GlenOaks Hospital in Glendale Heights.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 13, with prayers from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Parish, Lombard, with the Rev. Thomas Botheroyd officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Stancel is survived by his daughter, Loretta (the late Richard Sr.) Kearns; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Richard Jr.; and two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Stancel was a truck driver and a member of Teamsters Local 710.

Clifford Strain

Clifford R. Strain, of Lombard, died Saturday, June 11, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 14, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Entombment was at Assumption Mausoleum in Wheaton.
Mr. Strain is survived by his wife, Julia D.; children, Carol Strain (Ted Millin), Clifford (Laurie), Gary (Carol), Linda Strain-Flannery and Nancy Strain (Jimmy Hensley); and 11 grandchildren.
Mr. Strain was a resident of Lombard for 45 years and was born in New Jersey. He was a mechanical engineer and spent many years working in sales as a manufacturing representative. He was very active in the Lombard community and for many years helped run communications for the Lilac Parade with the Ham Radio Club. He was an active and passionate member of the York Radio Club, where he helped in many local disaster response teams, such as the Plainfield tornado.

John Talbot

John Philip “Jack” Talbot, 87, of Elmhurst, died Saturday, June 11, at Elmhurst Extended Care Center in Elmhurst.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 17, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment is at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mr. Talbot is survived by his wife, Jane Marie; children, Nancy E. (Brian) Plimpton, David J. (Raemarie), Kathryn M., Jenifer A. (Charles) Chambers and Bruce P. (Joanne); seven grandchildren; and siblings, Marie Reich and Alfred (Nancy) Talbot. He was preceded in death by his brother, PFC George Talbot, U.S. Army, KIA in Europe during World War II.
Mr. Talbot was a resident of Lombard since 1966 and was formerly of Delaware and Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He received an MBA and a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Drexel University, and had retried from Aaron Equipment in Bensenville. He had worked for Hercules Inc. for over 24 1/2 years.
Mr. Talbot was a former organist and choir member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of Good Samaritan’s Camping Club in Northern Illinois.

George Vandon Sr.

George J. Vandon Sr., 85, of Lombard, died Thursday, June 9, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 13, at First Church of Lombard, with the Rev. Robert Hatfield officiating. Interment was private.
Mr. Vandon is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn; children, George Jr. (Joan), Renee (Thomas) Thorsell, Cheryl (Scott) Cramer and Gail; and four grandchildren.
Mr. Vandon was an electrical utility shift foreman and was a member of the Dobrovsky Club, Sunrise Lodge #996, Westchester Lodge #995, A.F.&A.M. and Medinah Shriners.

Nicholas Van Hoose

Nicholas Lee Van Hoose, 75, of Venice, Fla., died Tuesday, June 7.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 11, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Van Hoose is survived by his wife, Marcia, whom he married in 1983 after reuniting at his 25th high school reunion; children, Jeffrey and James; stepchildren, Beverly (David) Kebrdle, Barbara (Stephen) Larsh, Bonnie (Michael) Fiorito and Robert (Jacalyn) Prehn; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brothers, David (Cathy) Van Hoose and Gerald (Karen) Van Hoose.
Mr. Van Hoose was born in Wheaton to Wendell and Carol (Frega) Van Hoose, and attended York High School in Elmhurst, where he met his first wife, Lari Lamb (mother of Jeffrey and James). They divorced in 1978. He attended Elmhurst College and in 1964 his career in the packaging industry began. Subsequent jobs, in corrugated and plastics, offered him a background and an opportunity to join the DuPont Co.’s Distributor Sales-Film Division in 1968. After 22 years he took early retirement in 1990, to join Unisource Corp. Packaging Division. In 2002, he retired after 38 years in the industry.
He moved to Venice, Fla., in 2003, where he enjoyed golf and became a member of the Elks, which honored him for his service and named a ball room after him, Van Hoose Hall.

Alvin Wagner

Alvin R. Wagner, 87, of Lombard, formerly of Glen Ellyn, died Monday, June 6, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 9, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Wagner is survived by his wife, Eunice; daughter, Judith (Don) Simmons; son-in-law, Jeff Kegerris; three grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Westphal; five nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela; and brother-in-law, Loren Westphal.
Mr. Wagner had retired from the DuPage County Forest Preserve District and was a St. John’s “B” dart player. He had been active at St. John’s and previously at Grace Glen Ellyn, was an avid White Sox fan, and enjoyed fishing and bird watching.
