Albert Babcock

Albert F. Babcock, 86, of Lombard, died Sunday, March 20, in Lombard.
Visitation will be Friday, March 25, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, at the funeral home. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Babcock is survived by his children, Arthur of Lombard, Marguerite (Gary) Warren, Marie (Craig) Bernard and Nancy (Kenneth) Hoffswell of Lombard; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; and three brothers and one sister.
Mr. Babcock was a resident of Lombard since 1954. He worked for International Harvester for over 30 years.

Gladys Bullard

Gladys Marguerite Bullard, 97, died on Monday, March 7, 2011, in Lombard, Ill. A memorial service was held at Peace Manor, 3737 S. Highland, Downers Grove, Ill., on Tuesday, March 22 at 3:30 p.m.
Mrs. Bullard is survived by her children, Kay Johnson and Richard DeLeon Bullard (Maria); grandchildren, Alesa Johnson, Beth Bullard, Terry Bunger (Roger), Emelia and Arthur DeLeon Bullard; and great-grandchildren, Rachel, Joshua and Rebecca Bunger.
For the past 30 years, Mrs. Bullard was a volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital and was a very active resident of Peace Manor. Private arrangements for cremation were completed on March 9, 2011. Gladys, we will miss you more than your homemade fudge and plum jam.

Stanley DeJanes

Stanley Forrest DeJanes, 92, of Lombard, died Wednesday, March 16, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 21, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. DeJanes is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen; daughters, Judith (Stanley) Ciochon, Janet Kubicki and Jacklyn (Chris) Noel; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Bertha; son-in-law, Kenneth Kubicki; and brothers, Harold, Robert and Kenneth DeJanes.
Mr. DeJanes was born in 1919 in New Burg, Ill., and was a resident of Lombard for 55 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II in Europe. He had worked for A.E. Staley Manufacturing Co. for over 40 years.
He was a member of the Villa Park VFW Post #2801, and was an avid fisherman and card player.

Peter Evanovich

Peter Raymond Evanovich, 66, of Belvidere, passed away Feb. 26, 2011, in his residence. Born Sept. 24, 1944, in Londonderry, Ireland, he was the son of Peter Raymond and Matilda Catherine (Carson) Evanovich. Peter was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the United States Air Force as an airman first class.
Survivors include sons, Major Troy Evanovich of Texas and Tech. Sgt. Brandon Evanovich, U.S. Air Force serving in Germany; daughter, Dana (Jim) Barrett of West Chicago; grandchildren, Preston, Amirah, Austin, Brenna, Cameron, Catherine, and J.T.; brothers, William (Karen) Arbuthnot, and Devon Arbuthnot. Peter was also an uncle to many. He was predeceased by his parents, and brother, Dale Evanovich.

Roland Grosklaus

Ronald Grosklaus, 73, a former 60-year resident of Lombard, passed away Sunday, March 13, at his home in Monterey, Tenn.
Mr. Grosklaus was the loving husband of Janice; father of Lori (Bill) Roelle and Michael (Darlene) Grosklaus; grandfather of five; and brother of Pat (Alan) Retherford and Barb (Jim) Flemm of Lombard.
Mr. Grosklaus was a firefighter with Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Ill., where he retired as deputy chief. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Glen Ellyn, was a Knights Templar and a 32-degree Scottish Rite. He was also a treasured member of Monterey United Methodist Church.

Tracy Kampert

Tracy Kampert, nee Clements, 40, of Villa Park, died Wednesday, March 16, in Downers Grove, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 21, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, with the Rev. Sanders officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Kampert is survived by her parents, Tom Clements and Margaret (James) Ellickson; her husband, Christopher; children, Taylor and Carter; siblings, Dennis (Karen), James (Dawn) and Timothy (Kim) Clements; in-laws, Brian Kampert and Jenny Polinski; 16 nieces and nephews; and parents-in-law, Bruce (Shelby) Kampert and Vicki (the late George) Berghorn.
Mrs. Kampert was a 1988 graduate of Willowbrook High School, a homemaker and a beloved coach of the Lombard Falcons cheerleaders for many years.

John McGladdery

John H. McGladdery, of Downers Grove and a former longtime resident of Lombard, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011, at Fairview Baptist Home in Downers Grove.
Family and friends will gather Saturday, March 26, for a 10 a.m. memorial service at Fairview Baptist Home, 250 Village Drive (1/4 mile south of 63rd Street on Fairview Avenue), Downers Grove, IL 60516.
Mr. McGladdery was the beloved husband of the late Iola; loving father of Barbara Anne McLellan, John C. McGladdery, Thomas M. (Donna) McGladdery, Daniel L. McGladdery, Mary L. (Dale) Herion, Jean (Mike) Steffens, Kitty (Don) Hoos, Diane Huml and Denise Stewart; proud grandfather of 28; great-grandfather of 46; and dear brother of the Ruth (the late Fritz) Sherry.
Mr. McGladdery was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, and had a longtime career in the metal fabrication and printing industry.

John McLaughlin

John L. McLaughlin, 95, of Lombard, died Thursday, March 17, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 21, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Mr. McLaughlin is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mae; children, Catherine (Joseph) Batka, John (Virginia) and Patricia; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. McLaughlin was born and raised in Gloucester, Mass., working as a golf caddy and on the fishing wharves as a youngster. He was a veteran of the Army Reserves, who served in North Africa as a liaison with the British armed forces under Montgomery in early 1942, landed in Normandy shortly before D-Day, and joined the fight to Paris. He earned a Bronze Star for bravery for personally leading the four tanks that blocked the deepest penetration of the Germans’ 2nd Panzer Division at Celles, Belgium, in the Battle of the Bulge, and was part of the U.S. occupation forces in Berlin until December 1945. He remained in the Army Reserves and retired as a colonel.
Mr. McLaughlin earned a B.S. degree in ceramic engineering from North Carolina State University, worked as a ceramic engineer and wrote the porcelain enamel industry standard “Trouble Shootin,’” a manual for appliance production lines. After his retirement, he was a golf teaching pro for numerous years in the Lombard area, and enjoyed woodworking, photography and all things Irish. He participated in scouting and school events across three decades.

Patrick Nutile

Patrick Nutile, 95, of Villa Park, died Wednesday,  March 16.
Funeral services and interment were private.
Mr. Nutile was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Mach.
He retired from GTE in 1981 after 32 years of service.

Karla Ooley

Funeral services for Karla M. Ooley, 45, of Villa Park, were held Monday, March 21, at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mrs. Ooley is survived by her husband, Andrew; children, Andrew, Kyle and Daniel; parents, Martin and Lee Kanzer; siblings, Jamie (Dick) Steinmetz and Mark Kanzer; grandmother, Elizabeth Mueller; and 11 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carl Mueller, and Ted and Harriet Kanzer.

Willard Slocum

Willard W. “Bill” Slocum, 91, of Lombard, died Friday, March 18.
Visitation will be today, March 23, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24, at the funeral home. Interment is at Oakridge Cemetery.
Mr. Slocum is survived by his children, Randall (Kathy) and Gregory (Andrea); brother, Culver; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty C.; and brother, Edwin Slocum.
Mr. Slocum was a 60-year resident of Lombard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II, and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was an avid boater and fisherman.

Florice Steinke

Florice A. Steinke, 88, of Lombard, originally from Seymour Township, Wis., died Thursday, March 17, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 21, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Trinity Cemetery in Fall Creek, Wis.
Mrs. Steinke is survived by her children, Allen (Sherry) of Lombard and Kathleen (Ray) Ruiz; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Leslie.
Mrs. Steinke grew up in Seymour, moved to Maywood and then Lombard with her husband. She worked as a bookkeeper, and was a member of the congregation of Glen Ellyn Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness. She was known as a very loving and warm-hearted person and moved to be with her grandchildren and watch them play. She was a very hard worker.

Nazzareno Tidei, 85, of Villa Park, died Sunday, March 13.

Mr. Tidei is survived by his children, Maureen (Carl) Dittmar, Anthony (Linda) and Linda Tidei (David Vollman); two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Gentilina Tidei; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose.
