Michelina Carbonara

Funeral services for Michelina Carbonara, nee Mastrolonardo, 92, of Villa Park, were held Monday, May 9, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mrs. Carbonara is survived by her children, Terri (Al) Zielke, Frank, Ann (the late Donald) Pagels, Mary Sturtevant, Joseph, John and Jean; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pasquale; son, Michael; and sister, Rosa Portincaso.

Ethel Cox

Ethel M. Cox, nee Schroeder, 95, of Lombard, died Thursday, May 5 at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 9, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E.; and son, Lawrence.
Mrs. Cox had been a resident of Lombard for 58 years. She was active in DuPage Republican politics.

Raymond Dorn

Funeral services for Raymond Edward Dorn, of Lombard since 1950, were held Tuesday, May 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment was at Oakridge Cemetery. 
Mr. Dorn is survived by his wife, Ernestine; daughter Tamara (Daniel) Skowron; one grandson; and sister, Marian (the late Howard) Eash. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael.
Mr. Dorn was born in St. Charles. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 676th Glider Field Artillery as a forward observer for the 13th Airborne. After the war Mr. Dorn attended the College of Advanced Traffic and earned an associate degree in traffic management. 
He worked for a variety of truck lines as a claim agent, and worked for the Fred Harvey Restaurant chain, designing all print media relating to food. Part-time he also created the first area maps for real estate agents in their Multiple Listing organization. He worked as manager of art and layout for the American Medical Association, and also became an author and teacher; in 1976, he opened his own design studio in Lombard. He also worked for The Ragan Report.
In 1985 Mr. Dorn first appeared in “Who’s Who in the Midwest” 18th edition, from 1990 to 1992 was co-historian for the Lombard Historical Society, and wrote a biography on Col. Plum, which he copyrighted. He also did a five-year research on Gen. Sweet, commandant of the Civil War prison camp, during the Civil War. He was active at Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served in various capacities that included assistant Sunday school superintendent, a four-year term on the Finance Committee, chairman of the Board of Evangelism, and historian and artist, as well as ushering on a regular basis.

Bernice Fenske

Bernice E. “Bunny” Fenske, nee Huber, 84, of Lombard, died Tuesday, May 3, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 5, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Mrs. Fenske is survived by her son, Jeffrey E. (Cathy); two grandchildren; and one niece. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elden C. “Bud”; and brother, Edward Huber.
Mrs. Fenske was a resident of Lombard since 1958. She was a graduate of Austin High School and worked for Wieboldt’s in Yorktown for 25 years. She was active at the Lombard Park District pool.

Erwin Finke

Visitation for Erwin H. Finke, 89, of Yorkville, formerly of Villa Park, will be held today, May 11, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. He died Sunday, May 8, in Yorkville.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Villa Park. Interment is at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mr. Finke is survived by his wife of 61 years, Grace; children, Kenneth (Colleen), Robert (Jodi), Richard (Janice) and Marcia (Carmelo) Panera; nine grandchildren; and siblings, Edgar (Dolores) Finke, Lillian (the late Wilbert) Schaper and Verna (the late Arthur) Brackmann; and was a cousin, uncle and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma Finke; and siblings, Esther (Alfred) Roffman, Elmer (Helen) Finke and Norman Finke.
Mr. Finke was retired from International Harvester in Melrose Park, after 35 years.

Richard Gawenda

Richard R. Gawenda, 69, of Lombard, died Wednesday, May 4, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 10, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was private at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
Mr. Gawenda is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Richard R. (Bridget) of Lombard; one granddaughter; sister, Connie (Gerald) Konczyk; and six nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gawenda was a resident of Lombard for 40 years.

Ruth Hallman

Ruth I. Hallman, 85, of Villa Park, formerly of Chicago, died Tuesday, May 3.
A memorial service was held Monday, May 9, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Villa Park.
Mrs. Hallman is survived by her children, Kathy (Richard) Scheelk, Christie Chestnut, William (JoAnn) Lewis and John (Gail); 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; and brother Carl (Elaine) Isaacson.

Richard Kearns

Richard M. Kearns, 65, of Lombard, died Sunday, May 8, in Lombard.
Visitation will be today, May 11, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 12, at Sacred Heart Parish in Lombard. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Kearns is survived by his wife of 33 years, Loretta; children, Allison (Jeff) Wienberg, Dolores and Rachel Dillon; one grandchild; siblings, Paula (Frank) Sanfilippo and Joe Post; two nieces and a nephew; father-in-law, George Stancel; and was the nephew of Peg Wilcrout and cousin of Linda. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Jr.
Mr. Kearns was affiliated with Local #17 Steelworkers.

Robert Kurek

Robert Kurek, 67, of Lombard, died Thursday, May 5, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 9, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Peter Jarosz officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Kurek is survived by his wife, Rosemarie V.; children, Terry (Joel Jr.) Williams and Craig (Amy Reeb) Kurek; six grandchildren; sister, Geraldine (Martin) Kapustka; and many nieces and nephews.

Arlene McGinn

Arlene J. McGinn, nee Makovsky, 77, of Lombard, died Thursday, May 5, in Lombard.
Funeral services are being held today, May 11, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. McGinn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Melvin T.; children, Richard T. (Nancy) and Kathy of Lombard; and two grandchildren.
Mrs. McGinn had been a resident of Lombard for 49 years. She grew up in Cicero and worked as a secretary for many years in Naperville. She enjoyed listening to her granddaughter play the piano, doing cross-stich, traveling to visit family, cooking and doting on her grandchildren.

Patricia Rakosnik

Patricia Joyce Rakosnik, nee Schuler, 66, of Lombard, died Friday, May 6, in Lombard.
Visitation and a memorial service will be Saturday, May 14, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard. Interment is at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mrs. Rakosnik is survived by her husband, Don; children, Rebecca (Rich) Matkins and Greg (Chris) Bartlett; five grandchildren; siblings, Bob (Laura) Schuler and Kathleen (Chuck) Vergan; brother-in-law, Ron (Leanne) Rakosnik; and six nieces and nephews; and was the daughter-in-law of Gerri Rakosnik.
Mrs. Rakosnik had worked for the Lombard Park District administration for over 20 years, and formerly worked for the Lombard Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Norma Jean Sparacio

Norma Jean Sparacio, 63, of Lombard, died Saturday, May 7, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 12, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 13, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment is at Elmlawn Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mrs. Sparacio is survived by her children, Michael, Angela (Ray) Coppola and Anthony of Lombard; three grandchildren; sister, Sandra (Roy) Rehfeldt; and dear friend, Carlo Lantoni.
Mrs. Sparacio was a resident of Lombard for over 40 years and had worked at Oak Brook Healthcare Center for over 20 years. She loved being with her grandchildren, loved crocheting for hours and with friends, and was very devoted to and loved her cats.

Sara Stoy

Sara C. Stoy, nee Casebeer, 93, of Beacon Hill, Lombard, formerly of the Cayman Islands and Chicago, died Monday, May 2, at Beacon Hill Health Center in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 6, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mrs. Stoy is survived by her children, Rufus M. “Jay” Jr., David Wilson (Jeanne) and Daniel W. (Effie Casler); eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Rufus M.; and son, Mark Randall Stoy.
Mrs. Stoy was born in Kansas and was a resident of Lombard since 2004. She was a graduate of Lucy Flower High School in Chicago, and also of Bethany Hospital School of Nursing and Michael Reese School of Nursing.
She was a registered nurse and had worked at Hinsdale T.B. Sanitarium and then La Grange Hospital, retiring in 1964. She moved to the Cayman Islands in 1964, where she was a school teacher, hospital volunteer, hotel manager and owner, and co-founder of the Cayman Islands Conservation Society.
Mrs. Stoy was a member of the Cayman Islands Garden Club and was very active in founding the Boatswain Bay Presbyterian Church in Grand Cayman. She was a lifelong supporter of Gideon’s, bringing hundreds of Bibles to Grand Cayman. She was a current member of Christ Church in Oak Brook.
