Marion Friedl

Funeral services for Marion R. Friedl, 88, of Fairview Village, Downers Grove, formerly of Cicero and Berwyn, were held Monday, May 23, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Ms. Friedl is survived by her nephews and niece, Charles, Nancy and Gilbert; and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Charles Friedl and Florence (the late Robert) Goodman; and nephew, Alan.
Ms. Friedl was employed by Illinois Bell for over 30 years. She was a former Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Bohemia Chapter and a member of the Rebecca’s.

Mary Gallicchio

Mary R. Gallicchio, nee Floodas, 61, of Lombard, died Friday, May 20, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
A memorial Mass was held Monday, May 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was private.
Mrs. Gallicchio is survived by her husband, Rich; children, Jason and Nicole of Lombard; brothers, Jack “Bob” (Penny) Floodas and James (Pai); and four nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gallicchio was a resident of Lombard since 1976. She was an administrative assistant at GB&A in Elk Grove since 1977. She was a member of the Lombard Rotary Anns; and was an avid reader, learning something new each day.

Kenneth Havenga

Kenneth A. Havenga, 55, of Lombard, died Thursday, May 19, in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 24, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Dan Wegryzn officiating. Inurnment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
Mr. Havenga is survived by his mother, Harriet; wife, Maura; children, Joshua, Shawn and Brandon; and siblings, Janice (William) Herlien, Richard and Sandra (Ronald) Anderson; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Carrie (Phil) Fiore; and brother-in-law, Brian (Nilda) McHugh. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; and father- and mother-in-law, Quentin and Mary McHugh.
Mr. Havenga was retired after working as a manager with Waste Management (formerly Lombard Disposal).

Debbie Kulaga

Debbie Kulaga, 48, was born Dec. 18, 1962, and died May 19, 2011. She was born in Chicago, Ill., and moved to Lombard, Ill., then Las Vegas, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Tom and Martha Spiller, Frank and Elsie Ostertag (nee Lechelt), Michael Kulaga and Marie Kulaga (nee Hryzak).
Ms. Kulaga is survived by her daughter, Elisabeth (Chris) Reeves; parents, Lawrence and Patricia Kulaga (nee Spiller); brother, Lawrence J. Kulaga Jr.; sister, Loretta (Jason) Cox (nee Kulaga); grandchildren, Gianni, Gavin, Gwen and Gage; nieces, Rachel. Amanda and Sara; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Memorial servies will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, at Mountaintop Faith Ministries in Las Vegas.

Valerie Mieszcak

Valerie “Dean” Mieszcak, 72, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Villa Park, died Sunday, May 8.
A memorial visitation and service will be held Friday, May 27, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment is private.
Mrs. Mieszcak is survived by her husband, Larry; children, Larry W. (Carol) and Terri L. (Jim) Webster; four grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth (Elvira) Schawel and Dr. Daryl (Kathy) Schawel; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Mieszcak’s greatest joy was time spent with her devoted family, by whom she will be dearly missed.

Michael Rosales

Michael R. Rosales, 39, of Lombard, died Sunday, May 22, in Lombard.
Visitation and funeral services will be held today, May 25, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is private.
Mr. Rosales is survived by his parents, Roberto M. and Maria M.; brother, Jose (Luisa) and Israel (Yolanda); seven nieces and nephews; and many aunt, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Rosales was a resident of Lombard for 30 years.

Mary VanSchoyck

Mary Frances VanSchoyck, of Chandler, Ariz., passed away May 11, 2011, following a short illness, at Chandler Regional Hospital. She was 83 and was born March 2, 1928, in Melrose Park, Ill. to Jack O. and Marguerite Trantham.
She grew up in Villa Park, Ill., and graduated from York Community High School in Elmhurst, Ill. She served as president of the Villa Park Community Women’s Club and later lived in 11 locations in six different states including Illinois, California, Hawaii, Connecticut, Florida and Arizona. She was married for over 63 years to Lloyd. They eloped to Charleston, S.C., in 1948. Together they raised two wonderful children, Denise (Terry) Tuminello and David (Lucinda). They were blessed with one grandson, Sumner.
She was a dedicated homemaker, mother and grandmother, an avid bowler, skilled seamstress, passionately loved playing mah-jongg and relentlessly collected all manner of decorative frog figurines. She loved living “on the sand” near the beaches of Florida and Hawaii. After a brief career as a cashier/bookkeeper with Sears, Roebuck and Co., she “earned” a P.H.T. (Putting Hubby Through) degree when Lloyd returned from WWII U.S. Navy service to obtain his college B.A. degree via the G.I. Bill. Through many job transfers, and assorted lifetime challenges she was the glue of love that cemented her marriage and family. Remember her fondly. She was a great lady. No services at this time.

Arthur Waters

Arthur J. Waters, 81, of Lombard, died Wednesday, May 18, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 23, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. John Guiney officiating. Interment was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Mr. Waters is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Stephen (Vicki), Mark (Debbie) and Michael (Ann); seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Donald (Nancy), Elgin and Bernard (Nina) Waters, Diane (Ed) O’Neil and Christine (Dick) Murphy; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Waters was born in Boston, Mass., and had worked in painting-construction. He was a 4th degree member of Council #11027-Knights of Columbus.
