Elizabeth Erhardt

Elizabeth A. “Liz” Erhardt, nee Draper, 90, of Wheaton, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Westbridge Assisted Living in Wheaton.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 6, at Wyndemere Retirement Center. Interment was private at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Hillside.

Barbara Jeanne Flood

Barbara Jeanne Flood, nee Cassidy, 77, of Lombard, formerly of Riverside, died Thursday, Sept. 1, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 6, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Ascension of Our Lord Church. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Flood is survived by her husband of 56 years, Emmet J.; children, Emmet T. (Ariel), Ginny Pasieka, Barbara (Terry) Hoare, Joseph (Angela), Patrick (Kim), Maureen (James) Chiappetta, Annamarie (Billy) Omanga, Margaret, Colette (Michael) Murray, Clare (Fernando) Chavez, Raphael (Amanda), Robert (fianceé Allyson Albin) and Julie (Tyson) Marx; daughter-in-law, Barbara; 67 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory.

Kim Gerlach

Kim W. Gerlach, 57, of Dyer, Ind., formerly of Lombard, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Dyer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 3, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Mr. Gerlach is survived by his son, Ryan A.; mother, Margaret I. of Lombard; siblings, Richard (Terri), Michael (Deb) and Kerri (Wayne DiVarco) Halsall; eight nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert; and brother, Wayne.
Mr. Gerlach was born in Oak Park and grew up in Lombard. He graduated from Park View School, Lombard Junior High School and Glenbard East High School in 1973. He attended College of DuPage and moved to Dyer 10 years ago. He was a golfer, gardener and an avid boater on the Chain O’Lakes.

Wayne Karol

Wayne John Karol died Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Edward J. Hines V.A. Hospital, Maywood.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 2, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Burial services were at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mr. Karol is survived by his wife of 42 years, Peggy; children, Lisa (Karol) Olson, Amy (Kevin) Strong and Jack; three granddaughters; sister, Mavis (Paul) Nelson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Karol; and sisters, Myrna (Karol) Brown; and Linda (Karol) Lindstrom.
Mr. Karol lived in Chicago for many years before moving to Lombard in 1986. He was born in Hallock, Minn., and was the grandson of Norwegian and Ukrainian pioneers. He joined the Navy in 1957 and re-enlisted in 1961, serving during the Vietnam War until being honorably discharged in 1967. He had worked as a surveyor and for many years as a bartender and general handyman; in recent years he had been a “house husband,” a title he invented for himself and loved using when the opportunity arose.
Mr. Karol was a lifetime member of the VFW, a 30-year member of the American Legion and a 50-year member of the Hallock Eagles Club.

Leslie Bahnfleth

Leslie E. Bahnfleth, 75, of Lombard, died Friday, Sept. 2, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services will be held today, Sept. 7, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment is at Concordia Cemetery in Forest Park.
Mr. Bahnfleth is survived by his sons, Mark (Carolina) and Greg (Kelly); six grandchildren; in-laws, Harold and Audrey Jahnke; and three nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail A.; and grandson, Ian.
Mr. Bahnfleth was a resident of Lombard since 1965. He was a 1954 graduate of Lane Tech High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1959-62. He had retired from Jewel Food Stores in 1995, where he worked in corporate communications for more than 30 years. He was a former PTL member at St. John’s School, was a member of the booster club at Walther Lutheran High School and was a former elder and usher at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. He had been a member of W.O.W. since his wife’s passing.

Thomas Murphy

Funeral services for Thomas Murphy, age 76, were held Saturday, Sept. 3, from Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St. Downers Grove, to Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. Entombment was at Resurrection Mausoleum.
Mr. Murphy was the beloved husband of Barbara Murphy, nee Zolna; loving father of Tom (Ellen), Jean Voetzel, Jim, Patti McMahon, Colleen (Dan) Mueller, Maribeth (Mark) Millett and Mike Murphy; cherished grandfather of 16; dear son of the late C.F.D. Chief Francis and Grace Murphy; and fond brother of Anna Mae Feil and the late Jack Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was a retired Chicago Fire Department captain.
