Edmond Ackermann

A memorial service for Edmond E. Ackermann, of Belmont Village in Carol Stream, formerly of Villa Park for 50 years, will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Roselle.
Mr. Ackermann is survived by his children, Virginia Wind, Ed (Wanda) and Mary; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Anna.
Mr. Ackermann was the first in his family to get a driver’s license and a car. He joined the U.S. Navy after high school and served on the USS Concord in the Pacific during World War II. He started as a pipe fitter after his discharge from the Navy and most of his work was in the city of Chicago, working on construction sites such as the Prudential Building, McCormick Place and O’Hare Airport, to name a few.
He was a member of Pipefitters #597, and of the Villa Park VFW Post #2801. After retiring, he became a volunteer at Elmhurst Hospital from 1991 to 2004, until his eyesight failed. Building things was his hobby and he could fix almost anything; he could build things as big as a tool shed or two-car garage, and as small as the houses and nativity manger under the family Christmas tree. He enjoyed family, friends and life.
