Frank Mortensen

Frank Samuel Mortensen, 73, of Lombard, died Monday, Dec. 17, of pneumonia.
Visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 22, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was held privately.
Mr. Mortensen is survived by his wife, Charmaine of Lombard; children, Armando (Jean) of Lombard, Robert and Suzanne; siblings, Hans Willy (Janet) and Laila (Charles Michael) Potts of Lombard; sister-in-law, Gloria Mortensen; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Victor Mortensen; and parents, the Rev. Hans Mortensen and Wilhelmine.
Mr. Mortensen was born in Norway and was a longtime resident of Lombard. He was the co-owner of VFN Fiberglass in Addison since 1969. He was a member of the Midwest Street Rod Association and the National Hot Rod Association. He made fiberglass race car parts. He also worked in commercial construction and was a member of Carpenter’s Union Local 58, Chicago, for more than 50 years.

Esther Sassi

Esther M. Sassi, nee Lucca, 87, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 22, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Peter Jarosz officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Sassi is survived by her husband, Lawrence; children, Ron (Ruth), Robert and William (Louisa); five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sassi worked in retail management.

Robert Thomas

Funeral services for Robert H. “Bob” Thomas, 90, of Lombard, were held Thursday, Dec. 20, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment with military honors was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his son, Robert E.; siblings, William (Jeanette) Thomas and Phyllis (the late Robert) Kennedy; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane.
Mr. Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II.

Raeburn L. Petersen

Raeburn L. Petersen, 77 of Sycamore, Ill, and formerly of Villa Park for 31 years, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at her home.
Funeral services will be private. Cremation has taken place at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 Dekalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. 60178.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond; three children, Randy Petersen, Rhonda Petersen and Ramona (Ed) Moore; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Roderick; one daughter, Rebecca Grant; one brother, Laverne Arnott; and one sister, Delores Hoffman.
Mrs. Petersen was born May 13, 1935, in Rhinelander, Wis., the daughter of Cecil and Louise (Meyers) Arnott. She married Raymond D. Petersen on Oct. 23, 1954.
Raeburn was a realtor in the Villa Park and Elmhurst area for many years. She enjoyed going to garage sales and surfing the Internet. She would be full of information from her love of reading and searching new products and ideas. She also enjoyed reading and writing religious poetry for all to cherish.
