Ruby Cannon

Ruby J. Cannon, 70, of Lombard, died Saturday, Dec. 1, at Lexington Healthcare, Lombard.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was private at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Ms. Cannon is survived by her children, Debra (Fred) Hayes, Diane (Robert) Moutvic of Lombard, James Bebo of Lombard, Cindy Constanzo and Mary (Richard) Gallaga; five grandchildren; brothers, James Cannon, Robert (Ann) Cannon and Anthony (Charlene) Cannon; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lucille.
Ms. Cannon had been a resident of Lombard for 19 years. She was an avid bingo player.

Jeffrey Gaul

Jeffrey R. Gaul, 45, of Lombard, died Friday, Nov. 30, in Downers Grove.
Funeral services are being held today, Dec. 5, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard. Interment is private.
Mr. Gaul is survived by his parents, Patricia and Raymond (Betty) Gaul; siblings, Kevin (Indira) Gaul, Suzanne Spanier and Doug Biel; aunts and uncles, Dolores, John and Janet; four cousins; many nieces and nephews; and was the “papa” of Spike, Quincy Jr. and Patches. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Robin and Wayne.
Mr. Gaul was “God’s cop” and a diehard Chicago sports fan.

Robert Hicks

Bob “Beeper” Hicks, 56, of Westmont, formerly of Villa Park, passed away peacefully in Westmont on Dec. 1, 2012, with close family members at his side. Bob fought a 10-month battle with Lymphoma.
A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Community Congregational Church, 410 S. Cornell, Villa Park, IL 60181 (630-834-852).
He was the loving husband to Susan for 34 years; dear father of Jenni, Katie (Rick) and Allen (Cheri) Hicks; proud grandfather of Logan, Lucas, Liam, Landon Hicks and Ricky Ida; loving brother of Thomas (Aislinn) Hicks; and loving son to James Hicks of Florida; and the late Rosemary Thorpe.

Dr. Carol Meyer

Dr. Carol R. Meyer, nee Rehder, 87, of Lombard, died Friday, Nov. 30, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 4, at First Church of Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace.
Dr. Meyer is survived by her husband, Dr. Morgan M. Meyer, whom she married in 1948; sons, Dr. Paul (Pamela) of Lombard, the Rev. Mark D., Steven J. (Maureen) and Daniel J. (Mary); seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Robert Rehder, Ph.D. (Irene Thurston); brother-in-law, Bruce (the late Barbara) Sublette; sister-in-law, Bernice (the late Harold) Meyer; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Frederick Rehder and Charlotte Thoreson.
Dr. Meyer was a resident of Lombard from 1952-92, Glen Ellyn from 1992 to 2010 and Lombard from 2010-12. She was born in Chicago and graduated from Calumet High School and Morgan Park Junior College. She received her B.S. degree from Northwestern University in 1944 and graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago Medical School in 1949.
Dr. Meyer practiced in Lombard from 1952 until she retired in 2000; she treated thousands of Lombard children and was much loved. She was a co-founder of Meyer, Meyer & Albers Medical Group and was also one of the founders of DuPage Medical Group (when her practice merged with others). She was a member of the DuPage County Medical Society and was a member of First Church of Lombard, where she volunteered for many years at First Things First infant needs program.

Walter Papanek

Walter Papanek, 78, of Villa Park, died Monday, Nov. 26.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 30, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Papanek is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Kathy (Don) Vacco and Dave (Twila); three grandchildren; brother, Edward; and four nieces and nephews.

Virginia Shanker

Virginia A. Benoit Shanker, nee Richardson, 84, of Lombard, died Thursday, Nov. 29.
Funeral services are being held today, Dec. 5, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Mrs. Shanker is survived by her daughters, Mary A. (Bill) White and Gloria Townsend; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Benoit.
Mrs. Shanker was a Lombard resident for over 35 years. She was the past 20-year president of Point West Condominiums, where she had many dear friends.

Eileen Schmidt

Eileen T. Schmidt, nee Theisen, 49, formerly of Lombard, died Saturday, Nov. 24, in Loves Park.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 1, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Herb Essig officiating. Interment was at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Mrs. Schmidt is survived by her children, Cathryn “Katie” and Douglas Schmidt; siblings, Mary P. (John) Miles, Anne C. Boucher and Patrick M. (Coleen) Theisen; and 10 nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her faithful and loving black lab, Savannah. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maureen R. and Michael J. Theisen Jr.; and niece, Margaret “Maggie” Miles.
Mrs. Schmidt was a friend to many.
