Shirley Brandt

Shirley L. Brandt, nee Brustkern, 94, of Glen Ellyn, died Sunday, Feb. 26, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.
Visitation will be today, Feb. 29, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 1, at First United Methodist Church in Lombard. Interment is at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Brandt is survived by her children, John T. III (Vickie), Cheryl (Jerry) Kuhn, Terry (Greg) Wilhite and Pam (Ken) Novak of Lombard; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Merle Jenkins and Marion Stofle; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Jr.
Mrs. Brandt was a resident of Glen Ellyn for 17 years and was formerly of Lombard for 31 years. She was born in Emerson, Neb., and was a graduate of Emerson High School. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, a member of United Methodist Women, and was a homemaker.

Kathryn Feeney

Kathryn E. “Kay” Feeney died Thursday, Feb. 23.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 28, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment was at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton.
Ms. Feeney is survived by her siblings, Mary (the late John) McAleese, Charles (Dolores), James (Merle), Martin (Gloria) and William (Jill); uncle, Dan (Joan) Walsh; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Alice; and brothers, Thomas, Robert and John.
Ms. Feeney was born in 1935 and taught for many years at schools in the Chicago area and Ohio. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed sewing and quilting.

Lorraine Herrera

Lorraine M. Herrera, nee Jordan, 80, of Downers Grove, formerly of Lombard, died Thursday, Feb. 23, in Downers Grove.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Herrera is survived by her children, Jim (Lori) of Lombard and JoAnn (Ed) Hurst; eight grandchildren; sister, Marlene Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Jeanette (the late Ralph), Michael and Jim (the late Louisa); and brother-in-law, Bob Johnson.
Mrs. Herrera was a resident of Lombard for 50 years. She enjoyed traveling with family extensively and was an avid Cubs fan. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard, was a loving mother and loved Lilacia Park.

Ann Malone

Funeral services for Ann K. Malone, nee Kroschel, 92, were held Saturday, Feb. 25, at the St. Alexander Catholic Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Malone is survived by her son, Drew (Pam); seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie (the late Ted) Wojdula and Joann (the late Carroll) Hardebeck; brother-in-law, Steve Gospo; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Frances; husband, John F.; daughter, Janice (Michael) Stephen; and siblings, Martin (Angie) Kroschel, Frances Kroschel, Teresa Kroschel and Clare Gospo.

Virgal Neace

Virgal D. Neace, 75, of Lombard, died Saturday, Feb. 18, from liver cancer at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services and interment were held Wednesday, Feb. 22, in Kentucky at the Neace Family Cemetery.
Mr. Neace is survived by his wife, Sylvia, whom he married in 1957; son, Virgil; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Opal Neace.
Mr. Neace was born in Hazard, Ky., in 1936 and was one of 10 children. He moved to Chicago in 1950 at the age of 14 in search of work and also met his wife. He worked as a welder at Letter Fabricator in Addison and was forced to retired after he had kidney failure and was put on dialysis at age 55.
Mr. Neace was a family-first person and loved to be surrounded by his family, especially his great-grandchildren. He had many illnesses and recovered when it was thought he would not and he was a very religious person, a Southern Baptist, who went to church every Sunday with Sylvia when his health would allow it. He was known for helping anyone at any time of day or night and was called on often to do so; he never refused.

Lena O’Neill

Lena E. O’Neill, nee Roman, 90, of Lombard, died Sunday, Feb. 19, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 23, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.
Mrs. O’Neill is survived by her children, Michael of Lombard, Donna (Charles) Schneider of Lombard, Ann (Darryl) Hendricks and Patricia of Lombard; one granddaughter; siblings, Margaret La Frenere, Joanne (Salvatore) Pusateri, Anthony (Amelia) Romano and Frank (Loudine) Romano; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert; sister, Marie (the late Joseph) Dominik; and brother-in-law, Robert La Frenere.
Mrs. O’Neill was a resident of Lombard for 57 years and a member of St. Pius X Church for over 50 years.

William Raysby Sr.

William K. “Bill” Raysby Sr., 74, of Lombard, died Saturday, Feb. 25, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is private.
Mr. Raysby is survived by his wife, Donna; children, William Jr. (Donna), Michelle (Ken) Todd, Jeff (Katrina) and Daniel (Kimberly) of Lombard; 15 grandchildren; sister, Arvine Baasch; special friend, Art (Claudia) Carlson; and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his brother, David.
Mr. Raysby was a Seabee in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Alaska and the Philippines. He was a resident of Lombard since 1960 and was the owner and CEO of Raysby’s Development. He won an award for his remodeling of the Harold Gray home in Lombard, was active in his church as the song director, loved sharing the Gospel and sang in the West Towns Chorus barbershop quartet and in the Singing Men of Oak Brook.

Bertha Turay

Bertha E. “Bernice” Turay, nee Nych, 92, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 23, from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Turay is survived by her husband of 66 years, Michael; daughter, Shirley A. Grimsley (Dave Kartuska); daughter-in-law, Sandra R. of Lombard; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and was the aunt and great-aunt of many. She was preceded in death by her sons, Michael R. and James R.; and siblings, Michael, Lee, Josephine and Pauline.
Mrs. Turay was a veteran of World War II and was a staff sergeant and army surgical nurse during World War II. She was a member of St. Pius X Church, and was know as a loving wife and mother.

Thomas Uczen

Thomas A. Uczen, 55, of Elmhurst, formerly of Lombard, died Saturday, Feb. 25, in Elmhurst.
Visitation will be Friday, March 2, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 3, at the funeral home. Interment is private.
Mr. Uczen is survived by his wife, Kathryn J.; children, Andrea J. (Justin) Gotsch and Justin T. (Jamie M.); one grandchild and one on the way; mother, Laura Pace; siblings, Eugene (Joyce) and Alice (Frank) Hladon; and was the uncle and great-uncle of many. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Uczen; and stepfather, Jon Pace.
Mr. Uczen worked as a baker at Jewel Food Stores for 32 years. He was a 1974 graduate of Glenbard East High School and loved camping, canoeing and astronomy.
