Ralph Besic

Ralph Besic, formerly of Lombard, died Monday, Jan. 16, in St. Charles.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Maple Street Chapel, Main and Maple streets.
After the service, friends and family will gather in the First Church of Lombard multitorium next to the chapel.

Jack Briggs

Jack Briggs, 67, of Lombard, died Friday, Jan. 13.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Jan. 19, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Mr. Briggs is survived by his son, Michael (Belinda); and granddaughter, Danielle Briggs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan R.; and sister, Jill Briggs.

Zella Mabry Harris Chambers

Zella Mabry Harris Chambers passed away peacefully, on Jan. 4, 2012, at Good Samaritan Florida Lutheran skilled nursing facility, DeLand, Fla., at the age of 85.
A memorial service will be held later this year in Plainwell, Mich. Interment is planned at Green County Memorial Gardens, Paragould, Ark., alongside her beloved husband, Worthy.
Zella is survived by her stepson, Worthy Chambers Jr. and wife Paula, of Eddyville, Ky.; stepdaughter, Cynthia Drake and longtime partner, Dick Terry of Glenview, Ill.; stepson, Jeffrey Chambers of Eddyville, Ky.; daughter, Celia Cole, and husband, Frederick, of DeBary, Fla.; and son, Phillip Chambers, and wife Stacy, of Batavia, Ill.; grandchildren, Susan Edgington, Jim Drake, Kristen Johnson, Daniel Chambers, Janet Johnston, Mathew Chambers, Michael Kellogg, Gerald Scalpone, David Scalpone, Theresa Kellogg, Jennifer Kellogg, Mark Bose, Valerie Erlandson and Diana Feil; many great-grandchildren; sister, Ora McLin, of Apple Valley, Calif.; and 36 nieces and nephews. Zella was preceded in death by her husband, Worthy Lovell Chambers; her daughter, Julia Harris Kellogg; brothers, Joseph, Charles, Frank and Bill Mabry; and sisters, Roberta Gambell and Mary Ella Richardson.
Zella was born on May 5, 1926, in Corning, Ark., to Elsie Mae Cheek and Robert Sheldon Mabry. The family survived the Great Depression by raising the food they needed on their farm, helping feed neighbors. Faith in God and respect for education were cherished family values. Zella earned her bachelor’s degree attending Ouachita College in Arkadelphia, Ark., and Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Married in 1946 to James Edward Harris, she lived several years in Cicero, Ill. Divorced, she married Worthy Lovell Chambers in June of 1966. Blending his three grown children with her three children, they moved to Lombard, Ill. Zella had worked many years in market research for Sunbeam Corp. Zella later worked in several sales endeavors including licensure to sell real estate and life insurance.
Zella and Worthy were members of the First United Methodist Church in Lombard, Ill., had an active social life and participated in their local homeowner’s association. Zella served as president of the DuPage County (Illinois) Republican Women’s Club and president of the local PTA.
Arrangements are being handled by Allen Summerhill Funeral Homes, DeLand, Fla., and Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould, Ark.
Memorials in her name may be sent to the American Heart Association. The family wishes to thank Halifax Hospice and Good Samaritan Florida Lutheran for the excellent, loving care provided to Zella during her last days. Zella marked several meaningful passages in the meditation book she kept close to her, including Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I chose you. Before you were born, I set you apart for a special work,” says the Lord. Her strong, good-humored, life of service to others was a testimony to her belief that she was made for that work.

Wanda Horodecki

Funeral services for Wanda Horodecki, nee Wnek, will be held today, Jan. 18, with prayers from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Mass at St. John the Apostle Church. Interment is at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove.
Mrs. Horodecki is survived by her daughter, Gerry (Patrick) Ploof; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Lillian (the late John) Popowicz and Walter Wnek; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and she will be missed by her lap buddies, Mattie and Chauncie. She was preceded in death by her son, Albert Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.

Glenn A. Komaniecki

Glenn A. Komaniecki, 51, of Oswego, passed away suddenly on Jan. 15, 2012.
The family will be receiving guests on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, from 4-8 p.m. at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway Ave. Montgomery, IL 60538.
The funeral will be on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the memorial home. Interment will be private.
Mr. Komaniecki is survived by his wife of 20 years, Maricela; his daughters, Jessica (Brian) Judiesch, Fatima Vazquez and Stephanie Komaniecki; his grandson, Jamison Judiesch; his parents, Edward and Dolores Komaniecki; his sister, Donna Richards; and nieces, Lauren and Sara Richards, and nephew, Alex Richards. He was also godfather to Lauren and a dear friend to Joe and Kim Bayon and Ron and Sharon Binder.
Mr. Komaniecki was born on July 5, 1960, in Chicago, Ill. Glenn retired from AT&T after 31 years as a dedicated and committed employee. He was currently employed with Amdocs. He was a wonderful husband, dad, papa, son, brother, uncle and dear friend. He loved nothing more than watching and coaching his daughters’ sporting events and recently enjoyed watching his daughter on the swim team.
He was a man who would drop anything to help a friend in need and always volunteered his time. He also enjoyed golfing. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for a memorial that will be established through Delta Aquatics.

David Quirk

David John Quirk, 50, a 24-year resident of Villa Park, died Saturday, Jan. 14.
Visitation will be today, Jan. 18, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 19, at St. Alexander gathering space in Villa Park. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Quirk was the husband of Kelley; father of Matthew and Andrew; son-in-law of Virginia Dolan; brother of Robert (Sue) Martin, Gerald and Phillip; brother-in-law of Sharon, Laine, Peter (Julie) Dolan and Barbara Arnt; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Veronica; and brothers, Timothy and Raymond.
Mr. Quirk was a member of Local #134 Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
