Ralph Besic

Ralph E. Besic, born Nov. 15, 1933, in Berwyn, Ill., passed away Jan. 16, 2012, at his St. Charles home.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 21, at the First Church of Lombard-Maple St. Chapel in Lombard.
Mr. Besic was the beloved husband of Jan and the late Lois; loving father of Michael (Dianne) Besic of Glen Ellyn, Darren (Colleen) Besic of Batavia, Andrew (Kris) Besic of Elgin and Peter (Kelly) Besic of Batavia; treasured stepfather of Kurt (Laura) Fielding of Green Bay, Wis., Craig (Sue) Fielding of Englewood, Colo., and Kara (Mark) Fenne of Geneva, Ill.; beloved son of the late Rena (nee Kieft) and Emil Besic; proud grandfather of 15. great-grandfather of one; and dear brother of the late Leroy (Leslie) Besic of Riverside, Calif.
Ralph was the former owner of Firestone Service Centers in the DuPage County area, former owner of Besic Violin Shop-Lombard and worked for 18 years as Col. Ralph Besic, auctioneer, where he oversaw many charity auctions in the area.
Ralph was a former longtime resident of Lombard and was active in the Lombard Rotary Club, past president of Downtown Lombard United and a member of the Fox Valley Model A Restorers Club.

James Turay

James Richard Turay, 58, of Lombard, died Friday, Jan. 20, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was private.
Mr. Turay is survived by his wife of 23-plus years, Sandra; father, Michael; mother, Bertha; sister, Shirley (Dave) Grimsley; two nephews and two nieces; father-in-law, Roy Walker; mother-in-law, Diane; brother-in-law, Rob; loving friends, especially Tammy and Joe Ropinski and their children, Mike and Kristen McAleer and daughter, and Erin and Ed Moltzan and family; and extended family at Modern Optical, Ken and Yale Weissman and their families. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael.
Mr. Turay loved to vacation, especially to the tropical islands of Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Cabo San Lucas, St. Thomas and St. Martin. He also loved road trips to Michigan and Wisconsin. He loved to work outside on the lawn, over the years became a diehard White Sox and Bears fan, loved going to baseball games and was slowly becoming a Blackhawks and Bulls fan.
Mr. Turay loved to buy, repair and collect antiques, loved music and watching his 55-inch TV, going to car shows in the summer and his 2011 Camaro.

William Wingstedt

William Wingstedt, 85, of Geneva, formerly of Lombard, died Saturday, Jan. 21, in Geneva.
Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 28, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Mr. Wingstedt is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy”; children, Margaret W. (Douglas) Massey, Timothy A. (Jennifer); Nancy (Steve) Reimann, Carolyn G. (Michael) Roberts, Christine J. (David) Seaver, William M. (Kiley) and Anton K. (Beth); 29 grandchildren; and 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his children, Cynthia M. Henry and Constance G. Clarke; and four brothers and a sister.
Mr. Wingstedt grew up in Watertown, N.Y., and was a 1944 graduate of Watertown High School and attended Cornell University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific in World War II. He moved to Wheaton in 1955, Lombard in 1972 and Geneva in 1999. He had worked for Western Electric Co. as a telephone equipment installer in the late 1940s; owned and operated an electronic service business in the 1950s; and worked for Micrometrical Mfg. Co, a division of Bendix Corp., as the chief meteorologist in the 1950s. He also worked as an editor for several professional publications from the 1960s to the present.
Mr. Wingstedt was very active in his communities, including the Lombard Advisory Liquor Commission, VFW, Ann Arbor Masonic Lodge, Masons, Rotary Club of Lombard, Tri-Town YMCA, Lombard Chamber of Commerce, Lombard Historical Society, Ann Arbor Optimist Club, American Philatelic Society, American Society of Business Press Editors and Society of Professional Journalism. He was Lombard Man of the Year in 1992, was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and was a longtime philatelist.
