Phillip Burke

Visitation for Phillip Howard Burke, 76, of Villa Park, is being held today, March 28, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services and burial are being held Thursday, March 29, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mr. Burke is survived by his children, Kelly (Lou) Leonetti and Laury Burke; and two grandchildren.

Patricia DeHesus

Patricia A. DeHesus, nee LaSorella, 65, of Lombard, died Sunday, March 25, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Visitation and a memorial service will be held Thursday, March 29, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is private.
Mrs. DeHesus is survived by her son, George S. (Heather Kramer); one grandchild; sisters, LouAnn (Adolph) Veldt and Michelle (James) Powers; and five nieces and nephews.
Mrs. DeHesus was a resident of Lombard for six months and was formerly of Texas and Darien. She grew up in the Cicero and Elmwood Park area. She was a graduate of Rosary College and received her master’s degree from Northern Illinois University. She studied at Appalachian State University for her doctoral work.
Mrs. DeHesus had taught and was an administrator in Texas at Palo Alto College in San Antonio and at Texas A &M. She had later worked on the State of Illinois Community College Board and retired from the state of Illinois. She loved to travel and read.

Virginia Egan

Virginia “Sunny” Egan, nee Nelson, age 85, of Lombard, passed away peacefully at home on March 20. Many of her family members were with her.
Visitation will be Monday, April 2, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main St., Lombard. The funeral will be Tuesday, April 3, with 9:30 prayers at Brust Funeral Home and a 10 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Joliet.
Sunny was the beloved wife of John J. Egan for 64 years; loving mother of Joseph (who preceded her in death), John P. of Milwaukee, Michael T. (Sandra) of Geneva, Patrick N. (Karen) of Lombard, Nancy A. (Ronn) Ammons of Lombard and Kathleen E. (Stephen) Hoelter of Arlington Heights; cherished grandmother of Aileen (Elliot) Kloss, Sean Egan, Travis (Jennifer) Egan, Shannon (James) Whelan, Justin Egan (who preceded her in death), Thomas Egan, Joseph Egan, Nicholas (Jes) Ammons, Matthew Ammons, Chalie (August) Ammons, Samantha Ammons, Jessica Ammons, Emily Hoelter, Jacob Hoelter and Sydney Hoelter; and proud great-grandmother of Janel Kloss, Evan Kloss, Max Egan, Kily Egan, Finn Egan, Maggie Whelan, Joshua Whelan, Kyler Giampolli, Cash Ammons, Lennon Ammons, Chalie Mae Ammons, Ziya Griffin and Jaxen Ammons. Sunny was also the dear half sister to Clark Nelson (Michael Smith), caring aunt to Marilyn (Ron) Anderson, Terry (Kathy) Egan and Jeanine (Chuck) Weilmuenster; and fond former mother-in-law to Deidra Egan and Debbie (Egan) Swans.
Mrs. Egan was born in Denver, Colo., on April 9, 1926, to the late Carl Bernard and Ottolina (nee Pihl) Nelson. Born and raised in Denver, Sunny attended the Denver public schools followed by three years at the University of Colorado, where she was an Arts and Science major and belonged to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. There she met her future husband, John, and on July 2, 1947, they were married. After living in Joliet for one year, they moved to Lombard, where they enjoyed almost 65 years of marriage while raising their family.
Throughout her life, Sunny was extremely proud of her Swedish heritage and enjoyed collecting many Scandinavian keepsakes. She was an accomplished artist and writer. Her artwork and poetry often reflected her love of family and their interests. She also enjoyed a variety of crafts, cake decorating, calligraphy, antique shopping and adding to her numerous collections.
Sunny chose to get involved with the Lombard Civic Concerns and Development Program working to make Lombard a wonderful community to raise a family. Her other early activities included positions at Sacred Heart Church, the PTAs at Lincoln and Green Valley schools and clubs at Glenbard East High School. Sunny also served in the Lombard Junior Women’s Club and became a founding member of the Lombard Service League.
As her children grew, Sunny became more active in Lombard organizations and was elected to the Helen Plum Library Board, and served in various positions on the Lombard Historical Society, the Lombard Panhellenic Club, the Lombard Women’s Stamp Club and the Lombard Service League. Church work was always important to her as she volunteered to be on various committees and commissions, served as Eucharistic Minister, Adoration Chapel Adorer, teacher and Bible study member.
Special honors achieved were Lombard Woman of the Year in 1987, Lombard Service League Honor Life Member in 1996 and a Blue Ribbon for her Garden Rocks and Irish Village artwork in 2003.
Sunny was a true servant to the community, a dedicated leader in all those groups dear to her heart and a wonderful friend to so many. Above all she was devoted to her family and took great pleasure in visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved attending all their special events and made every day they spent together seem special.

Lillian Eltoft

Lillian Averal (Callahan) Eltoft, a longtime resident of Lombard, passed away on March 15, 2012.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 31, at 3:30 p.m., with visitation from 1–3:30 p.m. at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home, 17W201 Roosevelt Road, Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181 (630-941-5860).
Lillian was the cherished mother of Gary (Donna), Wayne (Janice), Connie Adcock (the late Richard), Kevin, (Patricia) and Erin Moltzan (Ed); doting grandmother of Marc (Lisa), Shannon Prieur (Matt), Siobhan Adcock (Andrew Roth), Gillian (Adcock) Fletcher (Matt), Charlotte and Victoria Eltoft, and Carly, Devon and Callahan Moltzan; loving great-grandmother of Bennett, William and Tenley Eltoft, Chloe and Monet Prieur, Averil Roth and Emelia Lillian Fletcher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents, James and Ida Callahan; sister, Beatrice Harrell; brother, Woodrow Callahan; and granddaughter Athena Adcock.
Lillian was born in Wrigley, Ky., on Feb. 21, 1919, to James and Ida Callahan, and married to Ralph Eltoft on July 5, 1939. She was a resident of Lombard since 1955, and worked at Henderson’s Department Store for many years. Lillian was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, a warm and caring friend, neighbor and volunteer to many over the years. She delighted many with her wonderful baking and cooking, and loved to play bridge.
Lillian’s legacy of wisdom and love lives on in the harmony, love and strong sense of family in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marion Fonner

Marion Felgenhauer Fonner, 89, of Montana, formerly of Chicago and Lombard, died Wednesday, March 21, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Billings, Mont.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 24, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mrs. Fonner is survived by her children, William W. “Bill” (Alexis), the Rev. Michael G. (Leslie) and Jerri (Donn) Vorisck; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Gerald Gordon Fonner; parents, Elsie Bush and William Felgenhauer; and brothers, William (U.S. Army paratrooper, KIA in Holland during World War II) and LeRoy Felgenhauer, formerly of Lombard.
Mrs. Fonner grew up in Chicago and graduated from Tully High School in Chicago. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern University and was a former math teacher at Notre Dame Academy, Chicago, and Concordia Lutheran School in Peoria. She resided in Joliet, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Ohio and Wisconsin with her husband.

Steve Gloss

Steve W. Gloss, 48, of Lombard, died Thursday, March 22.
Funeral services and interment were private.
Mr. Gloss is survived by his mother, Amy. He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Gloss; and sister, Cindy Gloss.

James McGovern

Funeral services for James J. McGovern, 80, of Lombard, were held Saturday, March 24, at St. Pius X Church, 1025 E. Madison St., Lombard. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
Mr. McGovern was the beloved husband of the late Alene; loving father of Susan (Michael Theisen) McGovern and the late Janice B. Koby; dear brother of Patricia (the late Ralph) Veccie, the late Sheila (Robert) McKeon, the late Maureen (the late John) Hennelly, the late Suzanne (Joseph) Sheehan and the late Margot (Ernest) Garnet; and fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Marjorie Petges

A graveside service for Marjorie I. Petges, formerly of Villa Park and Lombard, was held Friday, March 23, at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Petges is survived by her children, Henry Robert, Jean (the late Bud) Harn, Darlene (the late William) Hammerschmidt and Virginia (Charles) Daniels; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Helen (the late Joe) Martynek; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; and siblings, Robert (Shirley) Greve and Betty (the late Raymond) Prueter.

Beverly Shaver

Beverly Shaver, nee Dulleck, 82, of Lombard, died Wednesday, March 21, in Lombard.
Funeral services were private.
Mrs. Shaver is survived by her children, James R. Jr., John C. and Julie H.; three grandchildren; and siblings, Dolores (Howard) Bixler and George (Estrella) Dulleck.
Mrs. Shaver was born in Oxford, Wis., and had been an art teacher in District 48 for many years. She was known as a very faith-filled lady who was passionate about her Lord and a longtime active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Selwyn Wilson

Selwyn J. Wilson, 86, a longtime resident of Lombard, died Tuesday, March 20, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 26, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his children, Mark, Scott (Sylvia), Tranita Jackson of Villa Park, Toni Royster of Lombard, Debra Jackson of Lombard and Kellye of Lombard; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wilson was one of the first Tuskegee Airmen, after graduating from Crane Technical Prep High School and enlisting in the military in 1942. He was severely wounded when the B-25 bomber “Bright Eyes,” in which he was a tail gunner, crashed and left him the sole survivor. He spent 37 months in the hospital recovering from his injuries and went on to live a normal life and have a family, despite the doctors’ prognosis for him. He bought land in Lombard in 1952, where he built a house and raised his family.
Mr. Wilson received many medals and awards, including the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Congressional Medal and a letter from President Truman thanking him for his service. He was active in the community, and even held a high school prom in his basement for one of Elmhurst High School’s first graduating classes in the late 1950s.
