Martin Ackerman

Martin W. Ackerman, 60, of Melrose Park, died Thursday, March 1, at Manor Care at Hinsdale.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 6, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St.. Interment was at Glen Oak Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Ackerman is survived by his parents, William W. and Joyce H. of Lombard; siblings, Gary (Gloria) and Christine (Paul) Lauricella; and a nephew and niece.
Mr. Ackerman was a former employee of the American College of Pathology and was an avid fisherman.

Ronald Foresman

Ronald E. Foresman, 66, formerly of Lombard for 35 years, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, in Michigan.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 3, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mr. Foresman is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Deanna C. (Eric) Lindstrom, Danielle C. (Timothy) Bailey of Lombard and David R. of Wheaton; nine grandchildren; siblings, Esther (the late Jim) Thomas, Leatha (Joseph) Hutson and Merlin (Janet) Foresman; brother-in-law, Roger Hofland; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin P . and Mary I. Foresman; granddaughter, Julia Bailey; and siblings, Edward (the late Emmy Lou) Foresman, Dr. Robert Foresman, Dr. James Foresman, Elsie (the late Paul) Hartman, Betty Ann (the late Don) Williams and Mary Jane Hofland.
Mr. Foresman grew up the youngest of 10 children in a 320-acre farm in the western part of Illinois (Henderson County). He attended a one-room country school with only one teacher, which was a unique experience. He graduated from Stronghurst High School in 1963 and the University of Iowa in 1967. He was a lifetime Hawkeyes fan.
He then graduated from the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in 1968 and married Sharon in Escanaba, Mich., on June 1, 1968. He served his apprenticeship at Strang Funeral Home in Antioch, Ill., and then received his state of Illinois funeral director and embalmers licenses. He and Sharon purchased Jones Funeral Home in Sandwich, Ill., in 1970 and owned it until 1975.
In July 1975 he went to work for Brust Funeral Home in Lombard, Ill., where he was employed until his retirement in August 2010. He and Sharon moved permanently to Bradenton, Fla., to enjoy retirement.
In his 35 years in Lombard, Mr. Foresman enjoyed many positions and involvement in many groups and clubs: Lombard Jaycees; Lombard Area Chamber of Commerce; Lombard Lions Club; YMCA; YMCA Indian Princesses, Indian Guides and Trailblazers; third degree member of Father Boecker Council 6090 Knights of Columbus; DuPage County Funeral Directors; and Illinois Funeral Directors Association.
Mr. Foresman was chosen as Lombard’s Man of the Year for 1983, was a former member of St. Pius X Church, where he was a CCD teacher, and was a current longtime member of Sacred Heart Church.

Donald Caldwell

Donald “Don” Frost Caldwell, 78, of rural Mount Carroll, died Sunday, Feb. 26, at Rockford Memorial Hospital. 
Cremation will take place and a memorial gathering will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll. Condolences and tributes may be given at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Don is survived by his wife, Patt; his son, Brett (Lori) Caldwell, of California; a daughter, Robin Caldwell, of Michigan, and another daughter, Kristin (Joe) Torres, of Ohio; five grandchildren, Scott (Anna) Caldwell, Meghan Caldwell (David DeMuri), all of California, Justin Aqwa, of Michigan, and Mariah and Baily Torres, of Ohio; one great granddaughter, Lili, of California; a sister, Laurel, of North Aurora, a brother, Richard, of Texas; a brother-in-law, Bill (Linda) Lagle, of Maryland; two nieces and six nephews; his “rescued” black Lab, Boomer; many friends throughout the country; and his two former wives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Cal.
Mr. Caldwell was born March 3, 1933, in Chicago. The family moved to Lombard where he graduated from Glenbard (West) High School in Glen Ellyn. He then attended Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., graduating in 1955. That summer he married Sheryl Rashleigh in June. He then received his M.S. degree in Psychology and Special Education from Peabody College. He earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from Vanderbilt University in 1960.
While studying at Vanderbilt, he was asked to take part in a research project for the U.S. Army at Fort Campbell, Ky. At the completion of his work, he was awarded the title of Honorary Parachutist with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell. He then spent his last year of active duty doing research in the primate laboratory at Walter Reed Memorial Hospital in Washington, D. C.
Mr. Caldwell and his family, who now included three children moved to Detroit, Mich., and later moved to Huntington Woods, Mich. Don worked in psychological research at the Lafayette Clinic, and taught psychology to medical students at Wayne State University, both state of Michigan facilities. He and Sheryl divorced.
He continued working for the state of Michigan until his retirement in 1991. At that time he and his then-wife, Cindy, moved to the family farm west of Mount Carroll. They completely renovated the house on the property. They later divorced.
Several years later he met the love of his life, Patt (Lagle) Shepherd. They were married at the First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Greg Albert on Jan. 25, 1999. They continued to live at the family farm then moved to their current residence in 2004. Don was an avid outdoorsman, especially when it came to fishing; he immensely helped his wife with their gardens and took the role of “keeper of the lawn” very seriously. He thoroughly enjoyed his rural life in Carroll County.

Mildred Czieger

Mildred D. Czieger, nee Choate, 92, of Lombard, died Saturday, March 3, in Naperville.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, with the Rev. John Guiney officiating. Interment is at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Naperville.
Mrs. Czieger is survived by her nieces and nephews, Mary Margaret “Midge” Choate, Tom (Judy) Choate and Patti (Paul) Campbell; and was the great-aunt of Amy, Alex and Katie. She was preceded in death by her husband, George R.; brother, LeRoy (the late Mary) Choate; and niece, Kathleen Choate.
Mrs. Czieger had been an army nurse during World War II and had worked as an office nurse for Illinois Bell. She was a longtime resident of Lombard.

Wayne Hanik

Wayne J. Hanik, 59, of Villa Park, died Saturday, March 3.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 8, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 9, at the funeral home. Interment is private.
Mr. Hanik was the father of Colby; former husband of Laurie Hanik; brother of Tony (Veronica) Hanik, Thomas (Mary) Hanik, Mary Beth (Frank) Borkowski, Bernadette Hanik, Virginia (Richard) Godek and Rosanne (Fred) Bacaling; stepbrother of Sharon (Chris) Lorek and Edward (Shauna) Kazmierczak; godfather of Matthew Bacaling; and uncle and great-uncle of many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Rose Marie Hanik; and brother, Raymond Hanik.

Roger Lenters

Roger W. Lenters, 77, formerly of Lombard, died Sunday, March 4, at Alden Valley Ridge.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 8, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mr. Lenters is survived by his nephew, Robert (Ann) Lenters; dear friend, Sharon Groot; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his brother, Allen.
Mr. Lenters had been a resident of Lombard for 20 years and lived at Alden Valley since 2010. He was a veteran of the  U.S. Army’s 3rd Armor Division, was a member of Christ Church of Oak Brook and sang in the choir there. He also sang with the Singing Men of Oak Brook and was an avid golfer.

John Lynch Sr.

John Lynch Sr., 80, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, in Hines.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 3, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. George Zieba officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Lynch is survived by his children, Linda (Monte) Lahner, Barbara (Steve) Crossley, George (Dianne) Lahner, John Jr. (Robin) and Susan (Tom) Prignano; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Rosemary (the late Pete) Petru and Daniel Lynch. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen (Tom) Daudelin.
Mr. Lynch was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served in Korea. He had worked as a driver for Tip Top Bread.

Manuel Ramos

Manuel Ramos, 85, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 5, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Ramos is survived by his sister, Tina; sister-in-law, Bonnie; nephew and niece, Fred Jr. and Cindy; and godchildren, Patty (Keith) Larsen and Mike (Ela) Mieszanek. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Fred and Emma.
Mr. Ramos was a resident of Lombard for 25 years. He grew up in Chicago and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a medic during the Korean War. He was a Cubs and Bears fan.

Harvey Zarbock

Funeral services for Harvey M. Zarbock, 86, a longtime resident of Elmhurst, were held Friday, March 2, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mr. Zarbock is survived by his children, Cathy (the late Tom) Willett, Eileen (Dennis) Sullivan and Marsha (Louis) Metcalf; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Dwayne (Margot); and former wife, Shirley Rozanski. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Ronnie; parents, Gust and Annie; and siblings, Donnie, Everett, Berdean, Alton and Della (Jerry) Ebeling.
Mr. Zarbock was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He enjoyed traveling and camping when he was not working with his construction business of many years in Elmhurst, remodeling and new construction, including a few fallout shelters for which he was recently included in the Cold War exhibit at the Elmhurst Historical Society.

Ralph E. Magerkurth

Ralph E. Magerkurth, born June 13, 1925, passed away Feb. 27, 2012.
Services were held Monday, March 5, 2012, at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 82021.
Mr. Magerkurth is survived by his children, Edward W. Magerkurth, Stephen D. Magerkurth, Starr D. Blanchard, Ralph F. Magerkurth and Dawn (Magerkurth) Roth; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
