Ralph Albertsen

Ralph Albertsen, 85, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Lombard, died Saturday, May 19, surrounded by his family at Central DuPage Hospital.
A viewing and funeral service are being held today, May 23, at Lombard Bible Church, with the Rev. Stu Heiss officiating. Interment is at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mr. Albertsen is survived by his children, Wayne (Linda), Marsha (Michael) Zielke and Julie (fiancé José Morales); five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Eileen; daughter, Susan; parents, Elsie and Charles Albertsen; and siblings, Homer Charles “Bud” Albertsen and Stanton “Stan” Albertsen.
Mr. Albertsen was born and raised in Oak Park, graduating from Oak Park High School. Shortly afterward he joined the Navy during World War II as an aviation metalsmith third class and served for two years. He worked in the trucking industry where he was co-owner of F. Landon Cartage Co. in Chicago. He was a very active member of Lombard Bible Church, where he served as an usher up to the time of his death. He also oversaw the church finances for many years.
Mr. Albertsen enjoyed traveling with their trailer, was a member of the YMCA and was active with the Kiwanis Club for many years.

Mary Lou Busse

Mary Lou Busse, nee Henaughan, 78, of Rolling Meadows, died Monday, May 14, at Alden Estates of Barrington.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 18, at The Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows (847-253-0224.). Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mrs. Busse was the wife of the late Lyle; mother of Michael (Colleen) Busse, Janet (Mark) Pennock, Kenneth (Karen) Busse and Linda (John) Hicks; grandmother of 12; and sister of Bud and James (Wilma) Henaughan, Rick (Mary) Stough and the late Elizabeth Jakoubek.
Mrs. Busse was born June 19, 1933, in Elmhurst. She had worked at Rolling Meadows High School in food service for many years.

Jeffrey Coombs

Funeral services for Jeffrey A. Coombs, 59, of Villa Park, were held Tuesday, May 22, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Coombs is survived by his partner, Betsy Smejkal, and her children, Josh, Jason and Amanda Smejkal; parents, Claude and Lula Coombs; sister, Patricia Coombs; and various cousins, aunts and uncles.
Mr. Coombs was an avid golfer and loved thoroughbred horses and thoroughbred racing.

Pauline Most

Funeral services for Pauline E. Most, nee Wagner, 89, of Villa Park, were held Saturday, May 19, at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mrs. Most is survived by her chilidren, Michael (Pat), Gary, Nancy (Steve) Cole and Patricia Husslein; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, William (Holly) Wagner and Marge (Tom) Driscoll; and many nieces and nephews.

Eugene Polley

Eugene J. Polley, 96, died Sunday, May 20, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services are being held today, May 23, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is at Assumption Cemetery.
Mr. Polley is survived by his son, Eugene J. Jr.; and grandson, Aaron. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche; and daughter, Joan.
Mr. Polley was best known as the inventor of the first wireless remote control for televsion. He started his career with Zenith Radio Corp. (now Zenith Electronics LLC, a subsidiary of LG Electronics) in 1935. His 47-year engineering career spanned the pioneering days of radio, black and white television and color TV.
During World War II, Mr. Polley worked on radar advances for the U.S. Department of Defense and later held key technology positions at Zenith, and during his career also worked on the push-button radio for automobiles and on the development of the video disk. He invented the “Flash-Matic,” which represented the world’s first wireless TV remmote, introduced in 1955.
Mr. Polley was the 2009 recipient of the Masaru Ibuka Consumer Electronics Award from the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers, and he and fellow Zenith engineer Robert Adler were honored in 1996 with an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for “Pioneering Development of Wireless Remote Controls for Consumer Television.”
Mr. Polley, who had attended the City Colleges of Chicago and Armour Institute, was a longtime resident of Lombard, where he was active in village government, serving as a member of the village’s Zoning Board of Appeals for 34 years.

Elsie Reichardt

Elsie E. Reichardt, nee Anhold, of Friendship Village, formerly of Lombard, died Friday, May 18.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 28, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment was private at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Ind.
Mrs. Reichardt is survived by her children, William (Rosemary), James (Maureen), Thomas (Jackie) and Susan (Tod) Hall; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E.; and daughter, Carol Lynn.

Joseph Turyna

Joseph J. Turyna, 82, of Lombard, died Sunday, May 20, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Visitation will be today, May 23, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24, at the funeral home. Interment is at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in  Elmhurst.
Mr. Turyna is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Scott (Suzette) and Brad of Lombard; daughter-in-law, Diane Larsen; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his son, Rory; and two brothers.
Mr. Turyna was a graduate of York High School and had attended the University of Wyoming. He had retired from the Riverwood Paper Company in 1997 and loved sports, hunting and the outdoors.

Paul Zieske

Paul G. Zieske, 64, of Villa Park, died Friday, May 11, in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 17, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, with the Rev. Sue Detterman officiating. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mr. Zielske is survived by his wife, Debra; children, Michele Lynn (Jeremy) Rodenbostel, Marie Gail, Brian Paul (Stephanie Borsom) and Beth Anne (fiancé Jeff Wojcik); seven grandchildren; siblings, Mari (Danny) Pretzer and Garry (Debbie) Zieske; mother-in-law, Valerie Kjer; and was the nephew of Sr. Marion Sitkiewitz. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Audrey Zieske; and sister, Pamela Barajas.
Mr. Zieske had worked as a general manager.
