Jean Alvis

Jean E. Alvis, nee Hillberg, 86, of Wheaton, died suddenly Thursday, Nov. 22.
A remembrance service was held Monday, Nov. 26, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard and a private family graveside service was held at Glen Oak Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Alvis is survived by her children, Susan (Raymond) Gillespie, Elizabeth A. Magnier, Karen L. (Michael) Joyce, Christina J., Robert Y. (Margaret) and Jeffrey A. (Andrea); 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert N.
Mrs. Alvis lived in Wheaton for 59 years, since 1954. She was a former member of Cress Creek Country Club, was a Pi Beta Phi sorority member and a 1946 graduate of Lawrence University with a Bachelor of Science degree and was a former board member of Community Nursing Service in Carol Stream.
Mrs. Alvis was a proud Swede; was a bowler, knitter, and great cook and baker; enjoyed her VW convertible with the license plate ‘How Swede it is”; was a “Mod” grandma; and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

James Bennett

Funeral services for James H. Bennett, 79, of Villa Park, were held Monday, Nov. 26, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane; children, Carol (Timothy) Duffy, Nancy (Simon) Diver and Kurt (Barbara); nine grandchildren; and sister, Constance Oakes. He was preceded in death by his children, Gary and Lois Bennett.

Victoria Johnson

Victoria T. Johnson, 93, of Lombard, died Monday, Nov. 19, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 26, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Darien.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her children, Marge Towler, Charlie (Janet), Liz (Larry) Hunka and Ethel Fearnow; son-in-law, Warren Keclik; daughter-in-law, Susan; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur W.; children, Thomas, Richard and Lois Keclik; and son-in-law, Lou Fearnow.

Barbara Jonas

Barbara E. Jonas, of Lombard, died Friday, Nov. 23, surrounded by her family after a long battle with breast cancer.
Funeral services are being held today, Nov. 28, at Community Presbyterian Church in Lombard.
Mrs. Jonas is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ernie; children, Jerriann Ross and Steven; four grandchildren; and sisters, Norma VandeMerkt and Diane Todderud. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Sack and Gerald Ritenour; and in-laws and a nephew.
Mrs. Jonas was born in Mt. Carroll, Ill., lived in Bensenville as a young girl and settled in Lombard, after her marriage to Ernie, to raise a family. She worked for 25 years for Elementary School District 44 as a special education teaching assistant and librarian. She was known as a pillar of strength to others with breast cancer in the Elmhurst Hospital Support Group and was also active in her church’s Alpha group. She always had a smile and will be missed by many.

Shirley Martino

Visitation for Shirley Martino, nee Grabner, of Villa Park and Glendale Heights, will be held today, Nov. 28, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, at the funeral home. Interment is at Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park.
Mrs. Martino is survived by her children, Sandi (John) Caci and Jeff (Judi) Trucksa; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her son, Allan Thorpe Jr.; grandson Nick; and brother, Robert (Shirley) Grabner.

Elmer Mears

Elmer J. Mears, 86, of Lombard, died Sunday, Nov. 18, in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 24, at Christ the King Church in Lombard. Interment was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Mr. Mears is survived by his wife, Eileen; children, retired Col. Christopher C. (Dorothy), Constance E. (Richard) Reeder, Robert D. (Marsha) and Gerard J. (Terry); 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Donald (Pamela) Mears and Donna (Jim and the late James Dalton) Kerry; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mears was a veteran of World War II, and was the former owner of Mears Insurance Agency in Downers Grove. He was a post commander and member of American Legion Post #80.

Robert Rabe

Visitation and funeral services for Robert E. Rabe, 84, formerly of Villa Park, are being held Thursday, Nov. 29, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Villa Park. Interment is at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights.
Mr. Rabe is survived by his wife, Sylvia; children, Edward (Linda) and Sheryl (Dan) Musacchio; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings, Bill, George and Dick Rabe, Gertrude Bruhn, Mildred Dickson and Eleanore Gulbranson; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert Richerson

Robert Richerson, 87, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Nov. 21.
A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, Dec. 2, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard. A memorial Mass will be held Monday, Dec. 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. John Guiney officiating. Interment is private.
Mr. Richerson is survived by his children, Robert (Debbie), Nancy, Michael (Lisa), James (Kate), Mary, Kathleen (Algin Ford) Richerson, John (Sarah) and Tracy Fisher; 11 grandchildren; brother, William (Mary) Richerson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marge (Bob) Foraker.
Mr. Richerson worked in school supply sales. He loved the beach, golfing and sharing stories with family and friends.

George Sinka

George O. Sinka, 82, of Lombard, died Sunday, Nov. 25, in Downers Grove.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Bob Schoenstene officiating. Interment is at Assumption Cemetery.
Mr. Sinka is survived by his wife, Annemie; children, George (Ruth), Regina Gomory and Michelle (Scott) Teschky; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Mr. Sinka was vice president of printing for a manufacturing company. He was past president and a member of the Union League Club of Chicago, was a past president of the Civic & Arts Foundation, the Engineers Foundation and Boys & Girls Club. He was also past president of various printing and graphic arts associations in the Chicago area. He was an active volunteer at Marianjoy in Wheaton.
