Robert Benard Sr.

Robert J. Benard Sr., 78, of Lombard, died Thursday, Nov. 1, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 5, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Benard is survived by his children, Kathy (Daniel) Pennella, Karen of Lombard, Kristine (Joe) Manning and Michael of Villa Park; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Benard of Villa Park; six grandchildren; brother, Anthony (Deborah); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Ann; and son, Robert J. Jr.
Mr. Benard was a resident of Lombard for 41 years. He was a longtime employee and had retired from Charles Levey Circulating Co.

Arthur J. “Art” Bonds

Art Bonds, 70, formerly of Lombard, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, in Chicago, Ill.  
He was waked at Centennial Missionary Baptist Church, 4359 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, Ill., Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012.
For memorial contributions, the family has designated the Arthur Bonds Scholarship Fund c/o Centennial Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 53548, Chicago, IL 60653.

Gerald Griffin

Gerald “Grif” Griffin, 67, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Northwestern Community Hospital in Chicago.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, at LaTosca Restaurant, 123 E. St. Charles Road, Lombard.
Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Chris (Sherry); stepchildren, Jennifer, Adam (Christina) Christopher and Sarah; siblings, Rita (Jim) Kinney, Thomas Patrick Griffin, Kathy (Jerry) Haggerty, Patty A. (Chuck) Heery, Margaret “Peggy” Griffin of Lombard and MaryAnn (Kurt) Wilson; many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Colleen Leali of Lombard; and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen J.
Mr. Griffin was a resident of Lombard for 29 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve and was former vice president and computer programmer for First Penn Pacific.

Robert Macherey

Funeral services for Robert Edward Macherey, 94, of Villa Park, were held Saturday, Nov. 3, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Macherey is survived by his children, Nanette (Leonard) Farina and Cynthia (Charles) O’Deay; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Veola; and siblings, Phillip (Emilie) and Albertine Hart.

Anton Medovich

Anton Medovich, 86, of Lombard, died Saturday, Nov. 3, at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital.
Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 11, at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, Mich. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Nov. 12, at St. Cecilia Church of Caspian in Caspian, Mich. Interment is at Stambaugh Cemetery in Iron River.
Mr. Medovich is survived by his daughters, Alicia (Fred) Toppel of Lombard and Adair Barta of Lombard; four grandchildren; siblings, Jerry, Gloria Miravete and Joan DeVilbis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dawn; siblings, Edward “John,” Raymond, Lucille Bartow, Dorothy Anderson and Mary Bigoff; and parents, Rocco and Matilda.
Mr. Medovich was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was a retired civil engineer and registered land surveyor. He enjoyed fishing and attending his grandchildren’s school, sports and music activities. He treasured his lifelong friendships and early childhood in Caspian.

Irma Mesner

Irma E. Mesner, nee Wagner, 90, of Wildwood, formerly of Lombard, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Condell Hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 2, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment was at Arlington Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mrs. Mesner is survived by her children, Susan M., Rudolph (Gay) and Jane C.; one granddaughter; 10 nieces and nephews; and many friends and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence O, whom she married on Sept. 17, 1949; and sister, Elaine Kowalczyk.
Mrs. Mesner was a resident of Wildwood for six years and was formerly of Lombard from 1950 to 2006. She was born in Buckley, Ill., to Arthur and Meta Wagner, was a graduate of St. John’s Lutheran School in Buckley and a 1940 graduate of Buckley High School.
She had been a postal clerk for the Lombard Post Office for 25 years, retiring in 1987; was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard; and in August, celebrated her 90th birthday with family, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. She loved her family and friends, loved to read and was an avid card player to the end.

Mary Skorupski

Mary (Podolak) Skorupski, 95, died from complications of a stroke on Oct. 29, 2012, while surrounded by her family in Oak Brook, Ill.
Mary’s life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at St Francis of Assisi in New Britain, Conn., Thursday, Nov. 8, at noon. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Britain, Conn., where she will rest next to her husband, Casimer.
Mary is survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Casimer Skorupski; five sisters, Nellie Brownstein, Helen Sinkiewicz, Martha Maselek, Jo Jo Podolak and Emily Skorupski; and four brothers, John, Stanley, Walter and Peter (who died in the battle of Normandy during World War II).
Born in New Britain, Conn., Mary moved to Wethersfield, Conn., in 1994 and then to Lombard, Ill., in 2003. Mary worked at Aetna Insurance in Hartford, Conn., until her retirement. She enjoyed her golden years living in the Midwest at Beacon Hill in Lombard, Ill. Mary looked forward to her weekly “Friday Lunch ” dates with her niece Ann and great nieces Tracy, Kory and Lindsey. Mary always made Christmas a special event for the family with her homemade pierogi and butter cookies.
She loved to spend time with her great-great-nieces and nephews, often sharing stories about what it was like when she was growing up. One of her favorite shows, “The Joy of Painting” hosted by Bob Ross, inspired Mary to take up painting during retirement. She was a big fan of the New Britain Red Sox and FOX News. Mary loved butterflies.

Andrew Speder Jr.

Funeral services for Andrew Speder Jr., 91, formerly of Lombard, were held Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mr. Speder is survived by his wife, Ruth-Marie; children, Nancy (John) Svoboda, Andrew (DiAnne), William (Lauren) and Mary (Tom) Frey; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Betty Soukup; and two nieces and a nephew.
Mr. Speder was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.

Rose Urso

Funeral services for Rose M. Urso, nee Priorie, 85, were held Monday, Nov. 5, at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Urso is survived by her children, June (Richard) McAlexander, James P. (Judith), Theresa (Dennis) Raducha, Peter Jr., Mary (Kevin) Regan, John (Char) and Roseanne; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Joan Furnett, Dorothy Tidd, Tony and Billy Priorie; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Sr.

Gerald Wade Jr.

Gerald E. Wade Jr., 59, of Lombard, died Friday, Nov. 2, at Elmhurst Hospital.
All services and interment were private.
Mr. Wade is survived by his mother, Sophia (Arson Kelly) ByBee; siblings, Cindy (Mike) Owen, Dawnna Standish and Scott (Kelli) Ensign; aunt, Anna Polight; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his aunt, Elizabeth Spochart (the late Walter).
Mr. Wade was a longtime participant of Lombard Cruise Nights. He was loved by all who knew him.
